BROKEN HOMELAND Mon arrière-grand-père Théophile F. a fui la Roumanie en 1910 à 20 ans pour venir s’installer en Auvergne. A force de voyages, j’ai tracé une ligne entre le sud-est de l’Europe et la France. Ainsi j’imagine le chemin qu’il a parcouru il y a un siècle ; il a scruté les mêmes horizons, traversé ces forêts, ces champs, entendu le même silence. Broken Homeland est une histoire vraie et un parcours imaginaire dans l’Europe continentale où il apparaît que l’Histoire est un recommencement perpétuel. Broken Homeland is a tribute to my great grandfather. Théophile F. left Romania at the age of 20 and settled down in Auvergne, France. During different trips, I drew a moving line linking the south-east of Europe and the center of France. I imagine him on those paths a century ago. He has been here, he saw the same fields, passed through these forests, heard the same silence. Broken Homeland is both a true story and an imaginary travel through continental Europe. And it seems that it is an example of History repeated.
