ENSAIOS PSICOMAGNÉTICOS PSYCHOMAGNETIC REHEARSALS

'Psycho-Magnetic Rehearsals' is a project of 'drum'n noise' music, in which the compositions are generated through noises or distortions that dilute notes, rhythms, harmonies and radiowaves. The improvisation is constant, in search of hypnotic and radical sonorities, without much concern in creating pleasant melodies or recognizable rhythmic patterns.

The following instruments and equipment are used (in order of most frequent use): _ Micro System JVC MX-S20 110W (audio device adapted for audible short-circuit emission) _ Rhythm 7 Sensor (electronic compact drumkit, for finger beating)

_ Buzzerbox (noise generator and oscillator, built by musician Rodrigo Florentino) _ Mini Battery Radio Suzuki _ Notebook (runs an algorhythmic sound shuffler and scrambler software) _ Microphone (for occasional vocalizations, recitals, instructions and chants) _ Magic Gallon (plastic water container) _ Nailphone (bat wincher percussion kit) Style: noise, post-punk, industrial Inspiration and references: Merzbow, Stockhausen, Glenn Branca, Kraftwerk, John Osvald, Sonic Youth, Terry Riley, Daminhão Experiença, Suicide, Mika Vaïnio Listen and download for free: 'Ensaios Psicomagnéticos Vol.2 (2017) https://petersonruiz.bandcamp.com/album/ensaios-psicomagneticos-vol-2 'Ensaios Psicomagnéticos Vol.1 (2017) https://petersonruiz.bandcamp.com/album/ensaios-psicomagneticos-vol-1-2017

SELF-INTERVIEW Peterson Ruiz interviewed Ziurmuzik / 180614 What kind of musician is Peterson Ruiz / ziurmuzik? Ziurmuzik is an alter-ego I created to sign my experimental music adventures. I prefer being labeled as a 'sound artist' rather than a 'musician', as I have no concerns with musical scales or virtuosity in playing instruments. When did all this start? Experimentation was already a part of my childhood, by exploring tape-players, radio-recorders, record-spinners ... a playful possibility of creating sounds. This became a gateway to musical creativity, since learning guitar did not work out very well. The lack of resources to buy cassette tapes forced me to use the ones I had by recording small portions of radio broadcasts to fill'em with as many songs as possible. And with that I began creating my first collages and mixes. In the 1980s, with the new wave and post-punk outburst, my repertoire would expand and what once was just kiddy entertainement became an aesthetic research, which led me to develop 'antimusical' techniques in dozens of experimental projects and some presentations as a singer and percussionist. I currently use 'low-tech' softwares to create remixes and reduxes, practicing sound deconstructions close to the proposals of concrete music, glitch music, noise, plunderphonics, and so. I believe one should use what's already available, rather than go seeking other resources. This 'Aesthetics of precariousness' is a very particular philosophy and for me the essence can be worthier than appearance, a concept can be derived from the materiality of a certain product. How was the partnership with fellow musician in your town, Sorocaba? I produced a 'funktronic' piece for the 'Her' project, run by my friend Henrique Ravelli. It's a piece made out from a sampled electronic parking attendance voice in a mall. Listen: https://herprojeto.bandcamp.com/track/b-b-bem-vindo-funky-mix-peterson-ruiz I also liked to do a Redux version of an EP of the indie-grunge-rock band Fones, extracting hidden sounds of it and spoiling the originals. They said they liked it, which i doubt... Take a peak: https://petersonruiz.bandcamp.com/album/senof-revlover-remixes-by-peterson-music-by-fones And what about the homage to Joy Division you guys did on Asteroid in 2014 and 2015? Well, that was paranormal and unrepeatable. Fortunately we had our second (and last) presentation decently recorded and filmed (2015). One day we will edit this and make a documentary. Here are some short cell phone videos from our first gig (2014) by Marta Volpi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rGt5AJ_RDc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSFeF8YEi7w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTEIOdLof74 Many people are curious when they see their performance beating a certain water bottle ... Yeah! That's my Magic Gallon! A 5-liter Van Leer PC7 plastic bottle, the most ordinary instrument one can find, to which I fixed a flat mic to amplify its sound. The occasions on which I play this instrument are 'anti-spectacular', that is, without warning, or structure, usually invading the presentation of other artists. Here's a glimpse: https://petersonruiz.bandcamp.com/track/oshalamar-batukistun-2003 And how is the 'growing discography of failures'? Gradually I am digging old recordings and releasing them as if they were albums, the discography is increasing, maybe I can edit everything in a few years. There are dozens of cassette tapes, mp3s never released, I have already uploaded more than a dozen albums in Bandcamp and planning to add six or five more in 2018. What is it like to be an alternative artist in Sorocaba? I try to honor the fame of a cursed and failed artist, keeping my productions without professional

quality, with low tech equipment and tools, also being careless about all this. So much so that even my friends do not consider me a musician worth playing at events or parties. The good side of it: no pressure, no expectations. Failure is the price I pay for absolute freedom.

DEAD BANDS

THE END (1992+2001) My post-punk-goth-rock band. We played just a few concerts: twice at legendary 'De Olho No Som' Festival in 1991 and 1992 and at Sorocabandas (2012). Here's our discography with variable quality: Peterson Ziur & The Dead Bands (rehearsals) The Loft Session (demo) The End Live in Capão Bonito (live)

JASMIN (1992) Perhaps the first 'shoegazer' band from Sorocaba, Jasmin had been formed by the late Chang Chiu Pin, a Taiwanese guitarist who invited me for a test as a vocalist. The first rehearsal on cassette tape. 'Skimo Kiss' e 'Rios & Mares', with rough sound quality, shows a direct, melodic and explosive connection with influences from Jesus & Mary Chain, The Cure, House of Love and other English bands. Some kids use to come up and watch us and later The Wry, which headed to England for some years, achieving underground claim. We performed only once and recorded a demo tape that was lost for over 20 years! That demo reapperead last year and it sounds relatively good for a bandcamp release. I'm working on it's cover art right now.

ECOS D’ALMA (2013) I entered as the third element in this electro-gothic band formed by Luitz Terra and his brother Fred Alvarenga. Memorable performances in São Paulo: at Via Underground nightclub and opening for Harry (pioneering electronic rock band from the eighties) at Walden Space.

A ĂšLTIMA BANDA (2015) (THE LAST BAND) Just a single concert in Asteroid, covering Echo & The Bunnymen https://www.facebook.com/events/851221364972943/ But that's the name with which i plan to label all my future band-alike projects

A TRANSGRESSĂƒO (2018) Band founded by my friend Rai Mein, who changes the line-up countless times. In one of these reconfigurations, due to the fact that the drummer wasn't available, I was summoned to play my Sensor Rhythm 7 electronic drum in Campinas, at the launch party of compilation Achados e Perdidos.
