Get ready to “Pitch in for Parks”, a volunteer based program offered through a partnership between Pierce County Parks and Recreation and McLendon Hardware. Pitch in for Parks is a great opportunity for all ages and abilities, (ages 15 and under with guardian) to pitch in and help your community. Supplies will be available for use plus a snack and water. Join us “rain or shine” with appropriate clothing for the weather and work gloves. Pitch in for an hour or for the entire time from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the following Saturdays:

May 13 – Parkland Prairie Its spring and the prairie is in full bloom! Join us to admire the wildflowers planted by Pitch-In-for-Parks volunteers, and help us prepare the site for summer by inspecting our new tree and shrub seedlings and performing site maintenance.

June 3 – Bresemann Forest

9:30 am - 5 pm

Fee: $61 + money for food/gifts Come along as we venture to Fall City where peace and tranquility await. TreeHouse Point Retreat Center is nestled along the Raging River with eight different tree houses high above the tree line. The tour will take approximately 1.5 hours. On our way home we will stop for a late lunch at the Roadhouse Restaurant in Fall City. Please note the tour is not wheelchair or walker friendly and there is no opportunity for sitting. Pre-registration is required by August 1st. Price includes, trip management, transportation, and tour.

We love hiking trails, but they also become conduits for invasive species into our natural areas. Parks and Recreation is inviting the community to learn about invasive species along our trails and aquatic weeds in our creeks, their control, and how you can prevent their spread. This is a learn-by-doing event, so wear your mud boots if you’ve got them and be prepared to get dirty.

July 15 – Parkland Prairie It’s the great camas salvage of 2017! This lovely little blue flower defines our prairie, and to support our new trail system, we want to make sure the path is clear. We’ll be looking for and digging up dormant camas bulbs in the new trail alignment. These little bulbs will be re-planted this fall in new areas throughout the site to start new patches of prairie.

August 19 – Meridian Habitat Park We are making site preparations by the new playground to create an interpretive native plant garden for kids and wildlife to enjoy. Come help us enhance the soil and spread the mulch; then join us again this fall to install the plants!

Group Volunteer Opportunities Pierce County Parks and Recreation is always looking for groups who are interested in giving back to their community. If your business, organization, or group of friends is interested in volunteering in our parks or facilities, please contact Jenn at (253) 798-4148 or jsergen@co.pierce.wa.us.
