Kick off your holiday season with Fantasy Lights WALK a sneak preview of animated displays in Spanaway Park on Sunday, November 18. Fantasy Light’s Walk starts and finishes the 2.5 miles at Sprinker Recreation Center. Walkers of all abilities (including wheelchairs and strollers) may start any time between 5-8 p.m. after checking in. Walkers should park and meet in Sprinker’s parking lot located at 14824 C Street S.in Spanaway, then proceed as directed into Spanaway Park. Please note parking may be an issue so gather up your friends and family to carpool! Refreshments available for purchase inside the park. Walk Fees: • Discount rate of $3/person or $9/family of four if pre-registered by Nov. 15. Pre-registered walkers pick up their tickets the evening of the event at Spanaway Park Purchase tickets at the Lakewood Community Center, Sprinker Recreation Center, or online through brownpapertickets.com with a small convenience fee. • $4/person day of event. • Children ages 3 and under are free.

Christmas is almost here, but not everything is going as planned. Someone has stolen Santa’s magical bag of toys and presents! Who-dunnit? On Saturday, December 8, help Detective Kringle from Santa’s Secret Service and Santa’s favorite elf Elfie solve this horrible crime by unraveling a lively list of clever clues. Enjoy a brunch, have family pictures taken with Santa, and make a take home holiday decoration at the craft corner. Doors open at 9 a.m. Tickets not sold at the door. Get ready to “Pitch in for Parks”, a volunteer based program offered through a partnership between Pierce County Parks and Recreation and McLendon Hardware. Pitch in for Parks is a great opportunity for all ages and abilities, (ages 15 and under with guardian) to pitch in and help your community. Supplies will be available for use plus a snack and water. Join us “rain or shine” with appropriate clothing for the weather and work gloves. Pitch in for an hour or for the entire time from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the following Saturdays:

See the underground passages that were once the old downtown’s main roadways and first floor store fronts. Following the tour, we will eat lunch at Doc Maynard’s Public House. Saturday, September 15 Meridian Habitat Park Join us to say farewell to summer, play on the playground, and pitch in at Meridian Habitat Park. We’ll be spreading some mulch, pulling some weeds, and planting some plants in the flower beds. Park improvements are happening, so we’ll have display boards out to show you what’s coming in.

Saturday, October 20 Bresemann Forest Time to plant! We’ll be installing native plants in the entrance area that Pitch-In-For-Parks volunteers cleared and prepared earlier this year. We’re keeping this excellent progress going, and will also start clearing the next Pitch-In-For-Parks spot further down the trail.

Saturday, December 1 Parkland Prairie Thank you to all the Pitch-in-for-Parks volunteers over the years that made Reclaiming the Parkland Prairie Nature Preserve a success! We’re continuing our commitment to the site by pulling Scotch broom and caring for the native plants for pollinators. Join us to walk the trails and enjoy the new educational kiosk. Stay tuned for the site’s Grand Opening! Companionship

Companionship’s Club Pierce is especially designed for young adults ages 20-30 who have special needs. Participants take part in personally enriching activities within the community including volunteering and visiting other organizations. Participants will enhance socialization with peers and community members, increase independence skills, and build their resumes as well as take part in crafts, sports, cooking and other activities. Register for one day or as many dates as you would like.

Join Companionship along the water on Ruston Way at Les Davis Pier. We will be exploring animals, creatures, rocks and shells from the bottom of the Sound. Maybe we will even see a seal swimming around the pier. This activity is fun for all ages. Companionship’s Santa Sounder! All aboard Companionship’s Santa Sounder! Board the Sounder in Puyallup and make the round-trip to Seattle with us. We’ll have fun holiday activities while we’re onboard the train. We’ll catch the 5:27 pm train from Puyallup to Seattle, remain onboard, and return to Puyallup on the 6:30pm train, arriving in Puyallup at 7:12 pm. Upon our return to the Puyallup station, we’ll be greeted by Santa! This will be the perfect opportunity to tell Santa about any last minute gifts you’d like! This event requires pre-registration. Companionship Program New Teen & Young Adult Social Activities If your weekends are dull, check out these fun activities! Teen & Young Adult Social Activities are designed for individuals 16-30 years to participate in fun outings with friends. Participants will have the opportunity to practice socialization, decision making, following directions, and getting along with a group. Staff ratio will be 1:4-6. Registration fees cover transportation in our shiny, new, wheelchair accessible bus, trip management, tickets/entrance fees, and food when designated.

It’s a day just for the girls, so no boys allowed! Time to pamper ourselves! We’ll head out and have our nails manicured and polished while we chat and catch up. Then we’ll show off our newly painted nails and take on the tastiest of tasty treats, cupcakes! For:

For one night only Hocus Pocus (rated PG), the great Halloween classic, is back at the Theater on the Square in Tacoma! You’re in for a crazy night of comic chaos when three wild witches return from 17th century Salem after they’re accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters! Following the movie, we’ll have dinner at Subway and discuss everything we saw in the movie. For:

Tour Fantasy Lights, the largest drive-through display of lights in the Northwest in our holiday “party bus”! Our accessible bus will have the best seats in town with its giant windows. We’ll be treated to all kinds of lighted whimsy and fun, including bears flying kites, Santa & Rudolph sailing a tall ship, and penguins at play. When we’ve finished “oohing” and “ahhing” over the lights, we’ll head to Denny’s for dessert. Yum! For:

Hatha Yoga is a great way to decrease stress while increasing flexibility and strength. This class is perfect for all body types, new or experienced yoga practitioners. Learn breathing techniques, standing and floor postures. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

This class is for all ages and abilities. The instructor leads and teaches strength, flexibility, and balance with an aerobic component.

Bring a yoga mat and blanket (optional yoga blocks, straps, and pillow).

Iyengar Yoga

For the Less Flexible or 50+ In Iyengar yoga, the use of props (blocks, blankets, straps, chairs, etc.) allows you to learn the correct actions of every pose, regardless of flexibility. Instructions are precise. Teachers are rigorously trained to cover basic concepts before progressing to more complex poses. You’ll work on strengthening your body, increasing flexibility and aligning your joints for optimal function. You’ll also work on balance to help prevent falls. In this slow moving class, we’ll mostly practice standing poses, seated poses and twists. You may sit on a chair if you are unable to sit on the floor. Poses can be modified for your individual needs. Bring a mat, a strap, a block and 3 Mexican blankets to class. Instructor will take orders for blankets and other props at first class. Please come early to fill out a health form.

Adult & Youth Classes Swing Dance Learn the fundamentals for Big Band Era swing dancing! In this Swing series we will focus on East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop. From rhythm and tempo changes, how to become an interactive lead or follow, how to safely navigate a social dance floor, to turns and dips. Clicker Training for Dogs Have you tried traditional dog training methods without getting the results you want? Perhaps it is time to try something new. This class is taught by A.B.I. certified trainer, Jon Borcherding. It is an introduction to the fun, exciting training method known as “clicker training”. This method is effective on dogs of all sizes and ages. It is especially useful with dogs that are fearful or anxious when confronted with traditional training tools like chain collars, voice corrections, etc. Requirements: Proof of current vaccinations, 4 foot leash, dog treats, scoop bags and paper towels. The game of broomball is similar to regular hockey; however, players hit a rubber ball with custom brooms instead of hitting pucks with a stick. Tennis shoes are also worn instead of skates. Ice Skating Learn-To-Skate Program The Ice Sports Industry’s (ISI) Learn To Skate program is used worldwide, has accepted standards and has been developed for the recreational skater; with teaching, testing, and award ribbon/patches available for different levels of achievement in basic skills and freestyle. Our program is based on the logical progression of skill development where skills learned in each level are built on skills achieved in the preceding level.

Levels of Instruction include: PreSkate 1, 2, 3 & 4, Beginning 1 & 2, PreAlpha, Alpha 1 & 2, Beta 1 & 2, Gamma 1 & 2, Delta 1 & 2, Beginning Freestyle, Freestyle 1, 2, & 3, and Beginning Freestyle 4. Beginning skaters should register for Beginning 1 class. Pre-Skate and Beginning skaters are evaluated during the first 2 weeks and placed in the appropriate class level. At the end of the 8 or 9 week session, skaters will be tested and may earn a ribbon/patch before advancing to the next level. Pre-Registration is required.

There must be at least 6 skaters in order to hold a class, otherwise the class may be canceled or combined with other levels when possible. It is recommended that returning skaters wait to register after their skills test on the last day of class.

As a member of ISI, students receive an ISI membership card, online quarterly magazine, secondary insurance and nationally registered skills tests. Allow 4-6 weeks from session start date for membership benefits to become effective (i.e. secondary medical coverage). As students progress the various levels, they have the opportunity to experience local, district and national competitions available to skaters of all ages, starting with the beginner’s basic Alpha test and ranging upward to the highest tests. These competitions are non-qualifying events. Emphasis is placed on participation and enjoyment. Class Times: Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your class time to pick up a lesson card. Class times are subject to change based on enrollment and are reassigned on the first day of class. If class time is changed efforts will be made to notify the student prior to the first day of class.

Limited Class Space: Class enrollment is limited and determined on a first come first served basis. Enrollment is limited to 12 students per class (9 for PreSkate 1 classes) whenever possible. Similar class levels may be combined to avoid canceling classes with low attendance.

Jump, Spin, & Axel This class is designed to strengthen all areas of figure skating. The site can host a variety of events such as weddings, receptions, staff retreats, company meetings, classes, lectures, and more. All fees subject to change.

The Conference Room measures 864 square feet. This room is ideal for business or small group meetings and has wifi. The room accommodates approximately 25 to 50 people.

Multi-Purpose Room The room measures 35 feet by 40 feet, total of 1,505 square feet. With wooden floors, a kitchenette, and wifi capabilities, this room is ideal for meetings, receptions, workshops, etc. The room accommodates approximately 95 people seated around tables.

Rainier Room: This newly remodeled space, located on the second floor, provides a northern territorial view of the complex plus views overlooking the indoor tennis and skating rink. The mezzanine leading into the room is used as an “art walk” with several paintings and sculptures open for public viewing. Wi-Fi available in all meeting rooms. Located in the heart of South Hill Puyallup, this 36+ acre park is a unique and quiet setting for your event. Meridian Habitat Park and Center includes a large auditorium, meeting spaces, kitchen, and outdoor grounds that can host a variety of events: • • • •

The Auditorium: This spacious area is a wonderful setting for special events, shows, weddings, reception or retreat. Capacity: 300-person seating, 200 seated around tables. Banquet fee with kitchen is $155/hour. Basic rental fee is $93/hour without food and without the use of the kitchen.

The Kitchen: This large kitchen has both conventional and microwave ovens, warming cabinet, refrigerator, sink, and plenty of counter space. Ideal for large gatherings and buffet style service.

Rental fee with kitchen “B” is $77/hour. Meeting fee is $52/hour, no food or kitchen. Damage Deposits: $100-$350 depending on usage with food and alcohol.

Covered Picnic Shelters: Shelter #2 has a commercial food service kitchen, electricity, and 12 picnic tables. Rental fee is $230/day with kitchen or $115/day without kitchen. Kitchen deposit is $200.

Shelters #1 & #3 have 10 tables and share a common grass area. Shelter #1 is close to the playground. Shelter #3 is on the opposite side. Each rent for $85/day.

This 930-acre site includes over two miles of saltwater shoreline, two-and-a-half miles of urban creek and canyon, and breathtaking mountain and Puget Sound views. Come visit us and walk on the series of public trails throughout the park. Trails range from Âź mile to 2 miles in length and vary in difficulty. Access the beach using the bridge located at Central Meadow. Play a round of golf at Chambers Bay Golf Course or dine in the restaurant. Fly your kite or throw a Frisbee in the Central or North Meadow. Bring your dog to play in the temporary off leash dog area located in the Central Meadow or take them to the permanent off leash area located on the beach just south of the pedestrian overpass.

Community Events Sports Programs

Central Meadow Central Meadow at Pierce County's Chambers Creek Regional Park features an 11-acre manicured lawn with panoramic views that include Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and Chambers Bay Golf Course. It is an ideal location for planned outdoor events such as family reunions, weddings, and parties as well as a staging area for walks and runs on the trail system at the Chambers Creek Regional Park. There are several areas available for rent. Damage deposits and fees vary based on type and time of usage.

Playfields The park has two multi-purpose playfields available for hourly rental. The playfields are available from dawn to dusk. Alcohol is not permitted. Reservations are required for regularly scheduled activity on the playfields. This includes non-league sporting events and private coaching sessions. Soccer goals are provided for reserved field time only. Rental rates are $25 per hour.
