Happy Birthday Lake Spanaway Golf Course! “The course known for its signature Douglas firs, long fairways, and big greens was molded out of the woodlands in the late 60’s when long time Parks Commissioner Harry Sprinker and Director of Parks & Recreation Tom Cross came up with the idea to create a public golf course. AB McCann designed the golf course and Ken Tyson built it. Lake Spanaway Golf Course was dedicated on March 31, 1967. Every year it hosts the Puget Sound Amateur, one of the largest amateur tournaments in Western Washington. Spanaway also hosts the Washington State Junior Golf Association Championships and several high school golf programs. Well over a million golfers have played Lake Spanaway in its 50 year existence. Lake Spanaway is now managed by KemperSports, who also oversees Chambers Bay and Fort Steilacoom golf courses.” - PCTV

Medical Insurance All participants in the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department’s recreation division programs should have their own medical insurance to cover any injuries sustained while participating in any activity sponsored by the division. Pierce County will not be financially responsible for any medical expenses.
