WRITING PORTFOLIO 5TH BACH

As students we often read stories, articles, essays and a whole variety of texts. And from time to time, we are asked to produce some kind of written work which is painfully read by our teacher who is ready to dissect it in the search of mistakes, and only occasionally reluctantly read by some of our classmates as part of some kind of peer correction activity. And then, most of our production ends up being lost and forgotten in some dusty folder. It is as part of a desperate fight for the recovery of these pieces of work that this portfolio was thought. Therefore, you will find the very best work produced by senior 5 students at Institute San Cristobal this year in these pages. Throughout the year students worked in the production of different pieces of writing. Here is a selection of the best pieces, which were not only selected but also improved and edited ad hoc in order to be included in this collection. Most of the students have presented their work under a pen name, so the challenge for you as a reader is to recognize some writer by his or her style. In order to help you most of the students have included a short biography, although you should be aware of the fact that many biographies are not true to reality. As most of the work is fictional, any similarity with reality, we must say, is a mere coincidence. Besides, we do apologize for any information that may not be accurate, and we do hope you enjoy reading our work as much as we have enjoyed writing, editing and publishing it. Any comment that will help us improve on our work will be most welcomed.

WRITING PORTFOLIO 5TH BACH Autobiography I was born on April 30, 1993, in Buenos Aires, Argentina weighing 4 kilograms. Since I was born my mom has not been able to take care of me because she had to work. I was always in different nurseries. So I met my step grandmother, who is an amazing person, and I grew up with her. She brought me up, gave me all her love. I do not blame my mom for not having time for me, she worked for me doing her best. I finished primary school at Gervasio Posadas, where I have the best memories, my graduation trip, friends. When I started high school at San Cristobal Institute, it was an abrupt change for me, I did not have any friends, I was alone among all those people who were strangers to me. The first year was difficult and it was very hard for me. The second year I felt there was not anything I could not do. I met people who have been my friends till today. Today I can say I have grown up thanks to all those who are at my school and who have helped me succeed in ugly situations. ∞ My name is Paula Kamery. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am 24 years old. I work as a paparazzo for “The sunshine” a local newspaper. My favourite hobby is dancing. I practise volleyball with my friends in Huracan Club. I love it very much. She Goes Straight to Jail Las cañitas: Saturday night, very late. The 34-year-old millionaire Ricardo Fort’s girlfriend Jessica Monteceik, was arrested late on Saturday night last weekend by Buenos Aires police. You must wonder why she was arrested. She was caught walking arround a pub with her boyfriend and they were completely naked. Jessica is the close friend of a number of Buenos Aires stars, she is very rich as her boyfriend and very famous. Ricardo Fort is called “The King of Chocolates” because he is the owner of one of the most popular chocolate companies in Argentina. When I was alerted by one of the neighbours, I saw her walking down the road in a terrible state and then she started to take her night dress off. I was so ashamed that I couldn’t say a word. At around 4.30 AM, a police car arrived and took her to the Police Station. There, she gave evidence and was charged with indecent exposure. She had to pay $5000 as a fee to be allowed to return home. When she was out of the police station, I had a few words with her. She told me that she was very sad because she had argued with her boyfriend and she didn’t know what she was really doing. Do you believe it?

WRITING PORTFOLIO 5TH BACH My name is Lisa Versace. I’m 16 years old. I’m a student at secondary school in San Cristóbal. The biggest school in the world

This school was created by Richard Scrosh, who died in 1850, and it was created in 1806, in England so it’s very old. The School has a lot of characteristics and the most important is that it is very big. Cult people call it “the biggest school in the world”. It has a lot of rooms and stairs, it’s very easy to get lost in it and there are four towers. At first this school was used as a prision for students, but lately it has become really famous because it was used as the principal scenery in the movie “Harry Potter”. Now this school is being visited by people who are from different countries. People want to go there because this is the place where the most amazing movie of the century was filmed. They want to know each room and see everything the school has. Also it has a lot of mistery, people who clean the school say that ghosts appear at night and it is the scariest moment in the day. Directors who filmed there (including Harry Potter) said that students who had been there and actually died, appear at night on their chairs as if they were studying. ∞

I’m eighteen years old. I live in San Telmo. I’m from Argentina. I was born on January 15 th, 1993. Last month, I travelled to Bariloche with my friends from school. Christ the Redeemer In my last holidays I visited The Christ the Redeemer, which is found in Brazil, with my family. This is the most interesting building I have ever seen because it is the biggest Christ of Sothamerica and of the world. This was a very beautiful monument for me because it is in Brazil and I love this country. It was invented in 1880 by an oldest president. We can see this monument in Rio of Janeiro. Rio of Janeiro is a very beautiful and big beach, and it is one of the most important beaches because it is close to the city. In Brazil you can appreciate traditional food, the music and the dances in the capital city. The Brazilians are very good people, and I have three new friends and I talk with them at the weekends. In my next holidays I want to visit this country with my friends from school because it is my last year with them. This place is very important for me because I bought presents for my

And it is a symbol of Brazil and I really like its culture, music and dances. ∞ Autobiography II My name is Carolina Esquivel, I’m 17 years old and I was born on March 19, 1994. I’ve lived with my parents and my brothers since I was born in Garrahan’s Hospital, and I’ve lived in my actually house since my firsts days. My mom is 49 years old, her name is Lidia and my dad’s name is Hugo and he is 55 years old. My sister, Lorena, is 30 years old and she was living with us but she moved 5 years ago with her husband. My brother is 29 and his name is Damian. My dog is Charlie; he has been my pet since I was 5 years old. I like to go out with friends, play computer games, listen to music and go dancing. I went to Calasanz’s School in my primary studies, I went to Santa Maria’s School in my first secondary school year and then I’ve come here and now I’m subscribed on UTN’s University to study Engineering. Although I’m enrolled there, I don’t like that course, I like Publicity very much, but I’m going to do the Systems course because my two brothers have studied it. I want to move alone someday, to an apartment with two dogs and a cat. I love animals, sports, music, ice-cream and my family. ∞ Autobiography III My name is Andrea Frias. I was born on 1st February in nineteen ninety four in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. I am the daughter of Ana Huck and Alberto Frias. I have a brother, who is called Esteban Frias. My zodiac sign is Aquarius and my favourite colour is coral. My hobbies are going to the gym, singing, going to a disco with my friends, going out, buying clothes, chatting with friends, writing about life, both good things and bad things, and staying Online in Facebook. In the first months of my life, I lived in Parque Patricios. When I was about six months old, we moved to San Cristobal, where we still live. In nineteen ninety-seven I went to Institute Rosa Anchorena de Ibáñez's garden, and I did primary school there, too. WRITING PORTFOLIO 5TH BACH My name is Rebecca, I’m seventeen years old and I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Autobiography IV I want to tell you my story since it is very important for me. I was born in a hospital in Palermo called Fernandez’s Hospital, on 17th March, 1994. That day was raining and it was cold and sad, my mother always tells me that. I wasn’t with my dad since he didn’t live with my mother. So I met him when I was one year old. I had my mother’s surname at that time. When I was two I went and lived in Mercedes, a little city in Buenos Aires province, which is beautiful. When I was four, my parents ended the relationship and I went and lived with my mum. That was very difficult for me for I wanted my parents together. When I was eleven years old I wanted to have my dad’s surname, and I did the paperwork to have it. That paperwork was a success but still I lived with my mum, after that stuff my life was very happy and I had a lot of friends, I did sports that I liked. When I was eleven years old I came again to Buenos Aires, I went to a nice primary school and since then I have been in San Cristobal’s Institute, I am very happy, I love my family, my friends and my boyfriend. I want to be a nice lawyer. Next year I will go to the university. I cannot ask for everything else. ∞ My name is Gonzalo Rodriguez. I was born in Buenos Aires in 1983. I studied in San Cristobal school and finished secondary school in 2000. After that I studied business in the university, and I finished that two years ago. This year I have written my first book intitled Love Soccer We Eat with our Mouth I want to open a restaurant in Parque Chacabuco. Its name is "The Turkish". The Turkish is the most popular restaurant. The restaurant opens at 08:00 o´clock and it closes at 22.00 o´clock. The Turkish decoration has two colors, blue and yellow because we are all Boca Juniors fans. And every time Boca plays there is a 20% discount. We have eight servers, each responsible for four tables. The prices are: salad 15$, tomato 7$, fruit 3$. Our prices are inexpensive. These are the best prices in the neighbourhood. In the menu you find a lot of food. The principal plate is pizza. We have a variety of pizzas, for example: tomato pizza, onion pizza, mushroom, mozzarella, palm pizza. ∞ My name is Piter and I am 18 years old. I was born in Argentina and I live there. I studied in Saint Cristobal Institute. Wonders of Argentina When I was young, I visited a very important and interesting building, The Cabildo. It is one of the most famous buildings in Argentina and is visited by lots of turists. It was built by Ernesto Rojas in the 19th century. It was the scenary of the May Revolution in 1810. The king of Spain stayed there for a few days and then he returned to his country. Inside it you can see a prison where lots of Argentinians stayed because of the King of Spain`s orders. You can see lots of rooms and Fernando 5th BACH

WRITING PORTFOLIO 5TH BACH VII, The king of Spain, stayed on the biggest. It`s an interesting buiding because it is a monument in Argentina and it represents the May Revolution. Now you can see it is very beautiful, because as time went by it was recontructed and painted. The Argentinian President visits it every day, because it is part of his work and he visits it to organise all the topics related with the country. This building is located on the famous “Plaza de Mayo” in front of “The Pink House” where the President works and receives all the Presidents from other countries near or far from Argentina. ∞ My name is Valet and I was born on 22nd September in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’m in the last year of secondary school and next year I’m going to study medicine. Tv as a Means of Discrimination Argentina is a country where there are a lot of people who are from other countries, have different beliefs or problems which are related to the aesthetics of the body. There are people who don’t accept different people because they don’t want this kind of person in their country. But not all the people are people who misjudge. Nowadays there are a lot of tv channels which show women with a thin and attractive body, and it seems as if there are only these kinds of women. This problem might influence girls who want to be as models. There are also tv channels which only show the model’s life. These tv channels have easy access to women who work as a housewife and they see their inequality. Finally there are news channels which show what is happening today in Argentina, and sometimes they show people who are in different economic situations and who live in poor areas. These kinds of people might be good or bad, because they are people and nobody is perfect. So when somebody does something bad, for example: kill a person. The person who is watching tv news channels might be scared of the person who killed somebody and with people who had had the same characteristics of the murderer. My conclusion is that in tv channels there is more violence than in previous years and discrimination is growing. People must decide what tv channels to watch and not to accept everything that it shows us. ∞ My name is Pancho, I am 17 years old. I live in Boedo, Buenos Aires, Argentina. I live in a flat with my parents and my sister. I love playing football and I am a River Plate fan. Italian Descendants I am going to open an Italian restaurant in my neighbourhood, Boedo. It will be in the corner of Boedo and Estados Unidos. Its name will be “Tutti e Fiore”. The menu is going to have quite a variety of things, such us fish, vegetables and meat. But there is no doubt that its speciality will be pasta. Spaghetti, Ravioli, Gnioqui and all that sort of food will be the most required dishes.

WRITING PORTFOLIO 5TH BACH The decor, will be, of course, very colourful, but the colours will only be red, green and white. There will be an Italian flag and some pictures of some of the greatest Italian football teams. It will be open every day from 11:00 to 16:00 hs and from 19:00 to 2:00 hs. The idea is to have a restaurant with economic prices because Boedo is not a rich neighbourhood, so the prices will not be expensive. ∞ My name is Eleanor Yorke, I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I’m 17 years old. I’m a high school student and I’m currently living in San Cristobal. One of my favourite interests is reading and I really enjoy listening to music too. A View from the British Sky Last year I travelled to London and I visited the London Eye. It was opened in March 2000 and it is also known as Millennium Wheel. This building is one of the most visited places in that city. It is located near River Thames and it is a big 135-metre wheel, so you can see boats and ships from there. I think it is really interesting because you are standing in a little cabin, which is in movement, and at the same time, you can see all over the town. This touristic attraction was called ‘London Eye’ because its architecture allows people to see everything from its height, through their own eyes. This original and huge structure is formed by 32 ovoidal and air-conditioned capsules. Each one can carry 25 people and although they have seats, people are able to walk around inside them. One rotation lasts about 30 minutes and it goes so slowly that it doesn’t need to stop to embark and disembark the passengers in its circular tour. It is completely illuminated with its own control LED lighting and this is why, in my real opinion, the best occasion to go on it would be at night. ∞ My name is Juan Palacha. I was born in 1983 in B.A. Argentina. I studied in San Cristobal School and I finished secondary school in 1991. Then I studied business at B.A. University. In 2005 I wrote my first book, whose name was The Moon. Red-handed London, 40-year-old Super Rich male model Justin Orlando’s love affair with British pop singer Ross Curtis was exposed this week. The two men were photographed together in D’omero, the most expensive and famous restaurant that you will find in London. Justin is a male model. He’s very famous. He spends his time travelling all over the world parading. His house is near the Big Ben, one of the most beautiful monuments in the world, in London UK, in one of the most popular neighbourhoods in the city. People who were in the 5th BACH

The person who took the photo ran away and his partner followed him, but the paparazzo escaped with the photo. Orlando, who has never tried to hide his sexuality, said that he was very happy with his new partner and they were planning to form a family adopting a child.

My name is Feico and I am 18 years old. I live in Boedo, Buenos Aires, Argentina. I go to school and I like going out with my friends. I am Boca Juniors fan. Boedo´s Building I want to talk about a building that is in my neighbourhood. I live in San Juan, between Maza and Boedo, and this building is near the corner of San Juan and Boedo. It is a 14-storey building, with a garage, where up to 50 cars can be parked. There are 42 flats, and in each one 4 persons can live. Apart of all the people, another 10 persons work in the building, in maintenance. This luxurious building has also some other facilities like a pool, that is 25 m long. There is also a room common to all the building, and everybody can book it for free to organize an event there. A flat there costs $150000. It is expensive, but you will have the warranty that you will be living in a big and comfortable flat, in a safe place, with all the facilities that this includes, and in one of the most beautiful and traditional neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires: Boedo.

∞ The Spaghetti Restaurant My idea is opening an Italian restaurant. The restaurant is going to be in Parque Patricios, near Caseros Avenue. Its name will be "The spaghetti". The decoration will be wonderful with its colorful walls painted in blue and yellow .It’s very beautiful. Also, it would be great if some tango artists can perform on the weekends . The special dish is pasta. And obviously you can try all kind of pasta from spaghetti to ravioli. Ravioli price is $ 10 a plate and gnocchi is $8, including the drink. The opening time will be from Monday to Saturday, from 11:00 am to 01:00 am. Everybody is invited to come to “The Spaghetti” a place with the most convenient prices in the neighborhood!

WRITING PORTFOLIO 5TH BACH My name is Sakura. I was born in 1993 in Argentina. I live in San Cristobal, Buenos Aires. I am 18 years old and this is my last year at high school. I am very excited. I am going to study Psychology at the University of Buenos Aires. Gold Palace The Gold Palace of Kyoto is the most interesting castle in Japan. It is visited daily by hundreds of tourists and Japanese people. The palace has 30 rooms covered in gold! It's amazing, you can see a lot of jewels like crowns, necklaces, swords, bracelets in platinium, silver, diamonds and gold, of course. It was built by Yasuhita Endo in 1365 , but it was completed by Eiji Kawashima in 1426. The castle was used as a palace and a fortress. In the Sachi war the front of the castle was broken, and it was fixed in about 1892. The royal bodyguards are called the Nisenko, they wear a black uniform like samurais. In 1993 Takashi Eiguchi filmed an horror film in this castle called ´´ Breaking down of the vampires´´ and it was the best movie in the category. In 2004 the palace was closed for repairs because the principal door was broken and the stairs had collapsed. In 2008 six diamonds were stolen from the Silver room and the bodyguards never found the thieves. Sometimes musical groups play music and the castle is a very good scenery for their videoclips. ∞ A Change of Life My name is Daniela Vargas and I am seventeen years old and was born in Peru. My mom is Jenny and my dad has never known me. My mom brought me up since the age of three years because she went to Argentina. Then my grandfather brought me up till I was eleven, I spent my childhood with him and my uncles. They educated me. When I was eleven I went to Argentina with my grandfather to meet my mom and my sister and her husband. My grandfather was with me for three months and then he returned to Peru. Here I was able to finish elementary school and now I am about to finish high school. In this short time I have gone through a lot of family things but I could overcome them. Now my mom is eight months pregnant and will have a boy, who will be called Benjamin. We are very happy now, we will be able to spend our holidays with him. ∞ History Trough the Years. In my last visit to Rome, Italy I went to the Colosseum. I thought that it was one of the most important places to go in that country because of all the history it has. There, there is a guide who shows you all the inside of the Colosseum and tells you all its history. It was built in the year 72 AC and still there are parts that are intact, like the tunnels were gladiators were waiting to go out and fight. In that time it was an important celebration and people enjoyed seeing people fighting, blood and also when they died, sometimes they also used to fight with animals, tigers and lions, for example. But they didn’t use this place just for that. There people could see also shows, like theatre plays. Tough it has a lot of years it’s still in very good form, that’s the reason why people can go and see it. It’s incredible to go there and be in a place which was created thousands of years ago. In my opinion if you go to Rome you must go to the Colosseum since it’s a very nice experience that you’ll never forget. 5th BACH
