MUDANÇA DE GUARDA EM RIBEIRA d’ILHAS. A etapa de Ribeira d’Ilhas traz consigo
um longo historial de eventos que marcaram o surf português. Desde 1992, quando o mítico Tiago Oliveira venceu, até 1996 e 1997, quando Tiago Pires explodiu a nível nacional, Ribeira foi sempre um “palco” perfeito para todos esses e muitos outros momentos de grande relevância. Para o Meo Ericeira Pro de 2012, esta praia proporcionou excelentes ondas entre um e dois metros durante três dias consecutivos. Esta etapa culminou no auge do evento, a final, onde os dois melhores novos talentos da actualidade, Frederico Morais e Vasco Ribeiro, se defrontaram de igual para igual. E o resto fica para a história...

Since 1992, when the iconic Tiago Oliveira won, until 1996 and 1997 when Tiago Pires “blew up” on the portuguese league, Ribeira has always been the perfect "stage" for all those moments, and many others, of great relevance in Portugal. For the three days of the Meo Ericeira Pro 2012 this point break provided very good surf, never falling under one meter or above two. This event saved its best moment for the final, where the two most talented surfers of the new generation, Vasco Ribeiro and Frederico Morais, faced as equals. And the rest is history...

Tiago Pires aproveitou a pausa do World Tour para competir na primeira etapa da Liga Meo Pro Surf (e para surfar Ribeira d’Ilhas apenas com mais dois surfistas na água). Tiago Pires had a break between World Tour events and was happy to confirm his presence at the first stop of the league (and to surf his home break with only two other guys out in the process).

Para João Guedes, chegar ao round 3 é um resultado escasso, mas o nortenho não deixou de mostrar momentos brilhantes, e que, em 2009, lhe valeram o título de campeão nacional. Not making it out of the third round is consideraded a very poor result to a surfer of the caliber of João Guedes. But he left us with some great moments, similar to what he showed in 2009, when he was crowned portuguese champion.

Frederico Morais não teve tempo de ir a casa tomar um banho de água doce após a sua viagem de um dia de regresso da Austrália, pois teve de competir de imediato no Meo Ericeira Pro, mas tomou um excelente banho de água salgada em Ribeira d’Ilhas.

Zé Ferreira sabia que se apanhasse a onda certa iria destruí-la do início ao fim, e foi isso que fez quando esta apareceu! O resultado foi a eliminação de Tiago Pires e um lugar nas meias-finais. Zé Ferreira knew that if he caught the right wave he would probably rip it to pieces and get the score he needed. Frederico Morais já atingiu aquele nível em que não precisa de provar nada na liga nacional mas isso não quer dizer que ele não o queira fazer sempre que pode competir! Prova disso é que surfou, nesta primeira etapa, para vencer, e, venceu-a! Frederico Morais has reached such a high level of surfing that he has nothing more to prove on the portuguese league. That didn´t make him try any less harder. He surfed to win, and that he did!
