RED BULLS VS. DYNAMO – CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS 2ND LEG – NOV. 6, 2013 – 8:00 PM ET

BULLETIN BOARD RED BULLS HOST DYNAMO IN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS After earned a hard-fought 2-2 road tie on Sunday in their postseason opener, the top-seeded New York Red Bulls prepare to host the Houston Dynamo in the second and final leg of the teams’ 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinals Series on Wednesday at 8:00 PM ET. In an intense contest, the 2013 Supporters’ Shield-winning Red Bulls were able to snatch a 2-2 road tie against the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday in the first leg of the series between the two sides. Tim Cahill and Eric Alexander recorded first half goals. However, after Ricardo Clark pulled one back for the hosts six minutes into the second stanza, New York went down a man when Jamison Olave was issued a red card in the 65th minute. New York’s defense nearly held off Houston, but forward Omar Cummings bundled home a loose ball in the box in second half stoppage time, evening the series score on aggregate. In the conference semifinals, the team that scores the most goals in the two legs would advance to the Eastern Conference Final and would take on the winner of the Sporting Kansas City-New England Revolution series (New England currently leads 2-1 on aggregate). If New York was to advance, the first leg of the two-game Eastern Conference Final series would take place on the road on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2:30 PM (TV: NBC Sports Network, Univision Deportes). The second match at Red Bull Arena would be on Nov. 23 at 7:30 PM (TV: NBC Sports Network). If the teams are tied on aggregate following the home leg, they will play two 15-minute halves. If a winner has still not emerged after the 120 minutes, a penalty kick shootout would take place to decide the victor. The Red Bulls, currently on a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions (6-0-3), were perfect against the Dynamo in the regular season, posting a 3-0-0 record. New York defeated Houston 2-0 at Red Bull Arena on June 30 and 4-1 (Sept. 8) and 3-0 (Oct. 20) at BBVA Compass Stadium. Alltime, the Red Bulls are 8-3-7 versus the Dynamo and won the only postseason series between the sides in the 2008 Conference Semifinals. Following a 1-1 tie at Giants Stadium on Nov. 1, 2008, the Red Bulls rolled 3-0 at Robertson Stadium a week later in the year that the club made its sole MLS Cup Final appearance. Houston, the fourth seed in the east, defeated the fifth-seeded Montreal Impact, 3-0, Oct. 31 at BBVA Compass Stadium in its Knockout Round match to earn the right to face New York. Will Bruin scored twice while Boniek Garcia scored from the penalty spot in the win. Led by first-year head coach Mike Petke, the Red Bulls earned their firstever Supporters’ Shield – given to the team with most regular season points – following a comprehensive 5-2 win over the Chicago Fire in front of a sold out crowd of 25,219 at Red Bull Arena on Oct. 27. RED BULLS, DYNAMO TIE 2-2 IN FIRST LEG First half goals from Tim Cahill and Eric Alexander helped the New York Red Bulls, who played over 25 minutes down a man, to a 2-2 road tie against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium in the teams’ first leg of their Eastern Conference Semifinals Series Sunday afternoon. The Red Bulls went ahead in the 22nd minute. David Carney was fed the ball on the left wing and slid it down the sideline to Thierry Henry, who crossed it into the box. Cahill was there at the back post to head it in for his first career postseason goal. New York then doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later. Off a swift counterattack, Cahill slipped it through to Alexander on the right wing. Alexander got into the box, cut it to his left foot and slid it past goalkeeper Tally Hall.

Houston was able to pull one back in the 51st minute. A New York clearance fell at the top of the box to midfielder Ricardo Clark. Clark was able to control the ball and fired a shot into the back of the net to make the score 2-1. The Red Bulls went down a man in the 65th minute, as defender Jamison Olave was issued a red card for a tackle on Omar Cummings. However, New York’s defense stayed firm under the final moments of the match, when the hosts got an equalizer in the second minute of stoppage time. A Houston corner kick was nodded on frame by Bobby Boswell. New York goalkeeper Luis Robles was able to make the stop but Cummings was there to put it in from close range. LUYINDULA LENDS HELPING HAND Red Bull Peguy Luyindula was inserted in the midfield for the second straight game and he did not disappoint, becoming the first Red Bull since Thierry Henry in Sept. 29, 2012 versus Toronto FC to record three assists in a game in a 5-2 win over Chicago on Oct. 27. Luyindula finished the season with seven assists, two behind Henry’s team-high of nine.

RED BULLS VS. DYNAMO – CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS 2ND LEG – NOV. 6, 2013 – 8:00 PM ET CAHILL SCORED FASTEST GOAL IN MLS HISTORY Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill continued his stellar season for New York, scoring the fastest goal in MLS history when he found the back of the net in just eight seconds against the Dynamo on Oct. 20. The tally broke the record set by Dwayne De Rosario, who scored for the San Jose Earthquakes in 11 seconds against Dallas on Sept. 27, 2003. The Australian led New York with 11 goals this season. Cahill has been on a roll with eight goals and three assists in the last 12 games in all competitions and he was the hero again for New York, notching his 10th goal of the year when he provided the game-tying tally in his team’s 2-2 tie against New England Oct. 5 when he headed in a loose ball in the box. The tally came six days after he scored in the 76th minute in the team’s 1-1 tie against Seattle on Sept. 29. Cahill has five game-winning goals this season. In addition, Cahill has accounted for the five of the 11 game tying or winning goals that the Red Bulls have tallied after the 75 th minute. Against Seattle, the Australian was in his second match back following his recovery from a ligament tear in his right ankle suffered against D.C. United on Aug. 31 (He was only unavailable for one match – New York’s 4-1 win over Houston Sept. 8). Despite sustaining the injury in the match, Cahill went onto deposit the eventual match-winning goal. Cahill is not unfamiliar with scoring while injured. On July 27 in New York’s 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake, despite suffering a torn PCL following a Yordany Alvarez fourth-minute tackle, Cahill ended up on the scoresheet with a goal seven minutes later. He went on to miss two games due to the injury. The 2013 MLS All-Star has been influential for the Red Bulls in his first full League campaign and has started in 26 regular season matches this year. KEEPING IT CLEAN The New York Red Bulls defense earned its 11th shutout of the season in their 3-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Oct. 20. Continuing his streak of being the only Red Bull to start in every one of New York’s matches this season, goalkeeper Luis Robles tied the club single-season record set by Bouna Coundoul in 2010. He has already set the single season club record for goalkeeper wins with 17, surpassing Coundoul (2010) and Tony Meola (1996, 98) who each had 14. SEKAGYA, WRIGHT-PHILLIPS OPEN ACCOUNTS Defender Ibrahim Sekagya and forward Bradley Wright-Phillips each scored their first MLS goals in the second half of New York’s 3-0 win over Houston on Oct. 20. Featuring mainly as a center back, Sekagya was previously with Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga from 2007 to the conclusion of the club’s most recent campaign, playing in a total of 165 games and scoring six goals. Sekagya was part of the Red Bull Salzburg squad that won the Austrian Bundesliga title three times (2008-09, 2009-10 and 2011-12), League Cup once (2012) and served as captain during parts of his tenure. He began his professional career in Uganda and then went to Argentina in 2001, playing with Atletico de Rafela. The 32-year-old also enjoyed stints at Ferro Carril Oeste (2002-05) and Argentina first division squad, Arsenal de Sarandi (2005-07). Sekagya was a member of the Ugandan National Team and was part of the side’s 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns. He earned 26 caps, scoring three goals and was captain for his country until he retired from international soccer. New York signed Wright-Phillips on July 24. His career started in 2004, when he graduated from Manchester City’s academy and played for the Premiership side until 2006. The 28-year-old then moved onto English side, Southampton, where he amassed 111 appearances and scored 22 goals. From 2009-11, Wright-Phillips featured for Plymouth Argyle before the former English Under-20 International moved to Charlton

Athletic. At Charlton, Wright-Phillips scored 31 goals in 82 games. Wright-Phillips was most recently at Brentford on loan, playing 15 matches and recording five goals. IRON MEN Currently, goalkeeper Luis Robles and midfielder Eric Alexander are the only Red Bulls to have featured in every MLS game this season. In addition, Robles is the only player to have started each of the 34 regular season matches New York has competed in. ALEXANDER, STEELE ENJOYING CAREER SEASONS In their first seasons as New York Red Bulls, midfielders Eric Alexander and Jonny Steele enjoyed career years. For Alexander, who is the only New York field player to have played in every Red Bulls match this year, he has already reached career-highs in games played (34), games started (30) and goals (4). The fourth-year midfielder was acquired from the Portland Timbers on Feb. 11 in exchange for allocation money. Alexander made his 100 th regular season appearance in MLS Sept. 29 at Seattle, coming on as a second half substitute for Lloyd Sam. Steele is currently enjoying his second full season in MLS following an extended career playing for a number of teams within the United States. The 27-year-old has five goals to go along with six assists. He has also featured in 33 of 34 games for New York this year. Ste ROBLES COMES UP BIG AGAIN Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles faced his eighth penalty kick of the year and his MLS career Aug. 31 against D.C. United and guessed correctly, going to his right to block Dwayne De Rosario’s attempt. His effort helped New York hang on to its 2-1 win. Robles has been scored on seven times from the penalty spot following Lee Nguyen’s successful conversion on Oct. 5 in New York’s 2-2 tie with New England. On April 7, Chicago’s Chris Rolfe was wide of the mark while on May 4, Robles stoned Columbus’ Federico Higuain en route to a 1-0 New York win. Robles (3-for-9) is tied with Greg Sutton (3-for-5), Tim Howard (3for-10) and Tony Meola (3-for-16) in penalty kick saves/penalty kick misses with three. No New York keeper has kept out/seen a miss four times. CARNEY’S RUN Red Bulls left back David Carney has made a large impact since he was inserted in the starting lineup on Aug. 31 against D.C. United, as New York is 5-0-3 when he has played in all competitions. He missed one game (Oct. 20 at HOU) due to an ankle injury. Carney, who was most recently with Uzbekistan’s FC Bunyodkor, started his career with English side Everton, where he competed in academy and reserve sides. In 2005, Carney joined A-League club, Sydney FC and helped his side qualify for the Club World Championship. It was in 2006 when Carney earned his first call-up to the Australian National Team. Carney made a total of 33 appearances and tallied seven goals for Sydney FC. In August 2007, Carney signed with England’s Sheffield United, where he played until 2009. He also had a loan stint at Norwich City in 2009 and later in the year, moved to Dutch First Division side, FC Twente, helping his team win the Dutch League title for the first time in club history. Carney also played for England’s Blackpool (2010-11) and Spain’s AD Alcorcon (2011-12) before joining Bunyodkor. As a teammate of current Red Bull Tim Cahill, Carney has earned 48 caps for Australia and scored six goals. He was part of the Socceroos’ 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2007 and 2011 Asian Cup squads.
