RED BULLS AT HOUSTON DYNAMO – OCTOBER 20, 2013 – 4:00 PM ET

BULLETIN BOARD RED BULLS LOOK TO BOOK PLAYOFF BERTH VERSUS REVS Following a week off from action, the MLS Cup Playoffs-bound New York Red Bulls remained in first place in both the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings with two regular season matches to go. The Red Bulls will look to distance itself from its rivals when they head to BBVA Compass Stadium to battle the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, October 20 at 4:00 PM ET in New York’s final road regular season match of 2013 (TV: MSG, Pre-Game Show starts at 3:30 PM; Radio: ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM). Prior to the bye week, the Red Bulls were the first team in MLS to clinch a playoff spot after a dramatic 2-2 tie with the New England Revolution on Saturday, Oct. 5 in front of a sold out crowd of 25,219 at Red Bull Arena. Tim Cahill’s 97th minute equalizer helped the hosts secure the point and its 10th postseason berth in 11 years. The Red Bulls are currently riding a six-match unbeaten run (4-0-2 record). New York (15-9-8, 53 pts.) enters this week with a one-point lead over second place Sporting Kansas City (15-10-7, 52 pts.) and is in a first place tie with the Western Conference-pacesetting Portland Timbers (13-5-14, 53 pts.) in the Supporters’ Shield race. New York does hold the first tiebreaker (number of wins) over Portland. If the Red Bulls tie or defeat the Dynamo, they will be assured of one of the top two seeds in the conference. If New York wins and Sporting Kansas City loses at D.C. United on Friday night, the Red Bulls would win the Eastern Conference regular season title for the third time in club history (2000, 2010 were the other times). New York is assured of avoiding the Eastern Conference Knockout Round. Just five points shy of the Red Bulls, Houston is in third place in the East and currently has 48 points off a 13-10-9 record. The Dynamo, which has qualified for the MLS Cup Final for each of the last two seasons, has a five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2) and most recently tied Sporting Kansas City, 0-0, last Wednesday night at home. Houston’s last loss came at the hands of New York, which stormed into BBVA Compass Stadium and rode three second half goals in a 4-1 win over the hosts, giving the Red Bulls their first-ever regular season win in Houston. Eric Alexander put the visitors ahead in the first half before Jason Johnson tied the match in the 18th minute. However, goals from Thierry Henry, Jonny Steele and Lloyd Sam in the second half help the Red Bulls earn the three points. New York has gone 2-0-0 this year versus Houston, also defeating the Dynamo, 2-0, at Red Bull Arena on June 30. The Red Bulls are 7-3-7 alltime against the Dynamo and 1-3-4 on the road. RED BULLS MLS CUP PLAYOFF TICKETS ON SALE New York will host the Chicago Fire on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 5:00 PM at Red Bull Arena in the season finale for both teams. Fans are now able to purchase the Playoffs Two Pack, which includes New York’s contest against the Fire and the team’s first home playoff match by calling 1.877.RBSOCCER or logging onto www.newyorkredbulls.com. Individual playoff tickets for the Red Bulls’ opening home playoff match are also on sale now. NEW YORK CLINCHES PLAYOFF SPOT AFTER 2-2 TIE Tim Cahill’s goal in the seventh minute of second half stoppage time gave the Red Bulls a thrilling 2-2 tie against the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena in front of a sold out crowd of 25,219 spectators on Oct. 5, helping New York become the first Major League Soccer team to punch their ticket to the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs.

With New York down 2-1, Cahill was able to be the first to a loose ball in the box and headed it into the back of the net for his team-leading 10th goal of the season. New York had the majority of quality chances in the first half and Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry almost put the hosts in front two minutes into the contest, hitting a looping header over goalkeeper Matt Reis and just above the crossbar. In the 14th minute, the Red Bulls took the lead. After good pressure from Jonny Steele, Fabian Espindola was able to intercept a Scott Caldwell back pass, dribbled towards the top of the box and deposited the ball into the lower right hand corner of the net with his right foot for his ninth goal of the season. Espindola nearly doubled his tally for the night and New York’s advantage 10 minutes following his first tally, nodding a Henry cross off the left post. The Red Bulls searched for another goal and Henry nearly gave it to them, cutting to his left foot and curling an on target shot that a fullyextended Reis pushed aside. On the other end, New York’s goalkeeper Luis Robles made a key block on Saer Sene shot from 10 yards out. The Revolution earned a controversial penalty kick when referee Fotis Bazakos ruled that Jamison Olave handled the ball in the box. Lee Nguyen stepped up and converted from the spot to tie the game with five minutes left to play. Despite going down a man following a red card issued to Andy Dorman, the visitors went in front and seemed to have earned the full three points. Diego Fagundez was able to capitalize on a New York turnover in its own half and drove towards the Red Bulls’ goal before putting it past Robles in the first minute of added time. However, Cahill was the hero for New York and in the 97 th minute, the Australian was able to get his head a loose ball after Reis punched away a Steele free kick and flicked it into the back of the net. RED BULLS AT HOUSTON DYNAMO – OCTOBER 20, 2013 – 4:00 PM ET Farrell, A.J. Soares (Dimitry Imbongo 76’), Jose Goncalves, Chris Tierney, Scott Caldwell (Andy Dorman 56’), Lee Nguyen, Kelyn Rowe, Saer Sene, Diego Fagundez, Juan Agudelo (Jerry Bengtson 79’) Substitutes Not Used: Bobby Shuttleworth, Stephen McCarthy, Kevin Alston, Chad Barrett Referee: Fotis Bazakos Referee’s Assistants: George Gansner, Jonathan Johnson 4th Referee: Robert Sibiga Attendance: 25,219 CAHILL PLAYS HERO ONCE MORE Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill was the hero again for New York, notching his team-leading 10th goal of the year, providing the game-tying tally in his team’s 2-2 tie against New England Oct. 5 when he headed in a loose ball in the box. The tally came six days after he scored in the 76th minute in the team’s 1-1 tie against Seattle on Sept. 29. Cahill has four game-winning goals this season. In addition, Cahill has accounted for the five of the 11 game tying or winning goals that the Red Bulls have tallied after the 75 th minute. Against Seattle, the Australian was in his second match back following his recovery from a ligament tear in his right ankle suffered against D.C. United on Aug. 31 (He was only unavailable for one match – New York’s 4-1 win over Houston Sept. 8). Despite sustaining the injury in the match, Cahill went onto deposit the eventual match-winning goal. Cahill is not unfamiliar with scoring while injured. On July 27 in New York’s 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake, despite suffering a torn PCL following a Yordany Alvarez fourth-minute tackle, Cahill ended up on the scoresheet with a goal seven minutes later. He went on to miss two games due to the injury. The 2013 MLS All-Star has been influential for the Red Bulls in his first full League campaign and has started in 25 regular season matches this year. ESPINDOLA ONE AWAY FROM SEASON-HIGH Fabian Espindola scored his ninth goal against New England on Oct. 5 in New York’s 2-2 tie. Espindola, who made his 28th appearance of the year, matched his goal tally from 2012 and is one shy of matching his career high of 10 that he set in 2011. The Argentine, who was acquired along with Jamison Olave in exchange for allocation money on Dec. 3, 2012, has recorded at least nine goals in each of the past three seasons. CAHILL, CARNEY RETURN FROM INTERNATIONAL DUTY New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill and defender David Carney were called up by the Australian National Team for last week’s FIFA International Date. Both are expected to be available for the Red Bulls’ next MLS match on October 20 against the Houston Dynamo. Cahill and Carney departed to join the Socceroos for their friendlies against France and Canada. Australia fell to the French, 6-0, on Oct. 11 at the Parc Des Princes in Paris before travelling to face Canada at Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage in London on Oct. 15 – a match the Socceroos won, 3-0. Cahill and Carney both started against France, with the former playing 80 minutes while the latter featuring in the first half. Carney played the full 90 minutes against Canada. The Socceroos qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup on June 18 with a 1-0 win over Iraq. In his first full season in MLS, Cahill leads the Red Bulls with 10 goals scored, his most recent a dramatic 97th-minute equalizer against the New England Revolution on Oct. 5. Since joining New York on August 8,

Carney has started six games, going the full 90 in each contest. The Red Bulls have gone 4-0-2 in the six consecutive games Carney has started. RED BULLS ROLL ON ROAD New York earned its fifth road win of the season on Sept. 8 at Houston and its tie against Seattle moved its record away from Red Bull Arena to 5-7-4. The Red Bulls have the fifth-best winning percentage on the road in MLS (.438) according to Elias Sports Bureau and their five wins is only two shy of the League-high set by Sporting Kansas City. The Red Bulls enter the week tied for second with Columbus for most road goal scored with 21 (Real Salt Lake leads with 26). KEEPING IT CLEAN The New York Red Bulls defense earned its 10th shutout of the season in their 1-0 win over FC Dallas on Sept. 22. Continuing his streak of being the only Red Bull to start in every one of New York’s matches this season, goalkeeper Luis Robles moved into a three-way tie for fourth in shutouts this year. Robles is one clean sheet behind the club single-season record of 11 set by Bouna Coundoul in 2010. With the team’s victory, Robles did set the single season club record for goalkeeper wins with 15, surpassing Coundoul (2010) and Tony Meola (1996, 98) who each had 14. IRON MEN Currently, goalkeeper Luis Robles and midfielder Eric Alexander are the only Red Bulls to have featured in every MLS game this season. In addition, Robles is the only player to have started each of the 32 matches New York has competed in. HENRY MOVES UP THE CHARTS Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry is continuing his climb up the club’s statistical charts. The three-time MLS All-Star notched his team-high ninth goal in New York’s 2-0 win over Toronto FC Sept. 14. The goal, his second in as many games, put him in sole possession of third place alltime in regular season goals scored with 40, surpassing Clint Mathis. Henry is in a seven-way tie for second place in MLS this season with five game-winning goals. Henry’s eight assists this year have pushed him in sole possession of third place in that category. BUSTAMANTE MAKES IMPACT IN FIRST START Rookie midfielder Michael Bustamante earned his first MLS start against Toronto FC Sept. 14 and earned his first career assist after providing the initial pass to Dax McCarty that led to Thierry Henry’s 32 nd minute goal. Bustamante had featured in three games as a substitute before the Toronto FC match. Peguy Luyindula replaced Bustamante in the 90 th minute. Bustamante, taken in the first round (13th overall) of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft from Boston University, was a four-time America East All-Conference First Team and NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection. Despite missing the 2011 season due to a leg injury, the 2008 America East Midfielder and Rookie of the Year recorded a total of

RED BULLS AT HOUSTON DYNAMO – OCTOBER 20, 2013 – 4:00 PM ET 69 games played, earning nine goals and 27 assists over his four-year college career. ALEXANDER, STEELE ENJOYING CAREER SEASONS In their first seasons as New York Red Bulls, midfielders Eric Alexander and Jonny Steele are enjoying career years. Alexander recorded his third goal of the year, while Steele chipped in with a goal and an assist in New York’s 4-1 win over Houston on Sept. 8. For Alexander, who is the only New York field player to have played in every Red Bulls match this year, he has already reached career-highs in games played (32), games started (29) and goals (3). The fourth-year midfielder was acquired from the Portland Timbers on Feb. 11 in exchange for allocation money. Alexander made his 100th regular season appearance in MLS Sept. 29 at Seattle, coming on as a second half substitute for Lloyd Sam. Steele is currently enjoying his second full season in MLS following an extended career playing for a number of teams within the United States. The 27-year-old has four goals to go along with six assists – a mark that is second on the team to forward Thierry Henry’s eight. He has also featured in 31 of 32 games for New York this year. Steele was signed by New York on Feb. 20 after the Red Bulls acquired the Northern Irishman’s first right of refusal from Real Salt Lake in exchange for a conditional supplemental draft pick. ACADEMY PRODUCT MIAZGA MAKES DEBUT Former Red Bulls Academy defender Matt Miazga made his professional debut on Sept. 8 at Houston, coming on for Markus Holgersson in the 76th minute. The 18-year-old played at centerback and helped keep the Dynamo at bay in the Red Bulls’ 4-1 win. Miazga was the eighth Red Bulls Academy product to sign with New York’s first team via the MLS Homegrown Player rule on May 30. Hailing from Clifton, NJ, he has represented the United States at the Under-18 level. He was a member of the Red Bulls Academy since 2009, when he played for the club’s Under-14 squad. The 17-year-old was part of the Under-16 Red Bulls side that won the U.S. Developmental Academy National Championship in 2012 and also played for the Under18 team. He has also featured for his country at other various U.S. Youth National Team age levels. The other former Red Bulls Academy players who graduated to the New York first team were: forward Giorgi Chirgadze (signed: Sept. 2009), forward Juan Agudelo (March 2010), midfielder Matt Kassel (Jan. 2011), defender Sacir Hot (Jan. 2011), defender Connor Lade (Dec. 2011), goalkeeper Santiago Castano (Dec. 2012) and Amando Moreno (Dec. 2012). Miazga is the fifth player to make his professional debut for New York, following Agudelo, Kassel, Lade and Moreno. FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET The Red Bulls are in first in the Eastern Conference in goals scored with 50, two ahead of the Montreal Impact. New York is paced by Tim Cahill, who has 10 goals, and Thierry Henry (9), and Fabian Espindola (8). New York trails Real Salt Lake (54) and the LA Galaxy (52) in goals scored. RED BULLS WIN ATLANTIC CUP With New York going 2-0-1 against D.C. United this year, the Red Bulls won the Atlantic Cup for the third time in four years. It is only the second time in club history that New York has gone unbeaten against D.C. in a regular season (the other time was 2010, when it went 1-0-1). New York earned a 2-0 win over United at RFK Stadium on April 13 and a 0-0 tie at Red Bull Arena on March 16.

ROBLES COMES UP BIG AGAIN Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles faced his eighth penalty kick of the year and his MLS career Aug. 31 against D.C. United and guessed correctly, going to his right to block Dwayne De Rosario’s attempt. His effort helped New York hang on to its 2-1 win. Robles has been scored on seven times from the penalty spot following Lee Nguyen’s successful conversion on Oct. 5 in New York’s 2-2 tie with New England. On April 7, Chicago’s Chris Rolfe was wide of the mark while on May 4, Robles stoned Columbus’ Federico Higuain en route to a 1-0 New York win. Robles (3-for-9) is tied with Greg Sutton (3-for-5), Tim Howard (3for-10) and Tony Meola (3-for-16) in penalty kick saves/penalty kick misses with three. No New York keeper has kept out/seen a miss four times. BWP, CARNEY EARN DEBUTS Less than a week after making his MLS debut, Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips earned his first start in New York’s 2-1 win over D.C. United Aug. 31. He recorded his MLS debut Aug. 25 at Chivas USA, coming on in the 58th minute for Fabian Espindola. On Sept. 8 at Houston, Wright-Phillips recorded his first MLS assist on Jonny Steele’s 59th minute goal. In addition, defender/midfielder David Carney started at left back against United on Aug. 31 and played the full 90 minutes in his first MLS appearance. New York signed Wright-Phillips on July 24. His career started in 2004, when he graduated from Manchester City’s academy and played for the Premiership side until 2006. The 28-year-old then moved onto English side, Southampton, where he amassed 111 appearances and scored 22 goals. From 2009-11, Wright-Phillips featured for Plymouth Argyle before the former English Under-20 International moved to Charlton Athletic. At Charlton, Wright-Phillips scored 31 goals in 82 games. Wright-Phillips was most recently at Brentford on loan, playing 15 matches and recording five goals. Carney, who was signed on Aug. 8, was most recently with Uzbekistan’s FC Bunyodkor and started his career with English side Everton, where he competed in academy and reserve sides. In 2005, Carney joined A-League club, Sydney FC and helped his side qualify for the Club World Championship. It was in 2006 when Carney earned his first call-up to the Australian National Team. Carney made a total of 33 appearances and tallied seven goals for Sydney FC. In Aug. 2007, Carney signed with England’s Sheffield United, where he played until 2009. He also had a loan stint at Norwich City in 2009 and later in the year, moved to Dutch First Division side, FC Twente, helping his team win the Dutch League title for the first time in club history. Carney also played for England’s Blackpool (2010-11) and Spain’s AD Alcorcon (2011-12) before joining Bunyodkor. As a teammate of current Red Bull Tim Cahill, Carney has earned 50 caps for Australia and scored six goals. He was part of the Socceroos’ 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2007 and 2011 Asian Cup squads. KNOCKING THEM OFF In the Red Bulls’ four-game unbeaten run (3-0-1) that ended Aug. 10 at Columbus, they defeated three then first place teams – the Montreal Impact on July 13 (4-0), Real Salt Lake on July 27 (4-3) and Sporting Kansas City (3-2). According to the Elias Sports Bureau, New York’s win over Sporting Kansas City was its first victory on the road over a team in sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference since its 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew on April 26, 2003.
