dress for your shape Š Manifeesto | Dreamstime.com

Picking the right dress for your body shape will have you looking and feeling great Choosing the perfect dress can be a very daunting task on a long list of things to do when planning a wedding. On your big day you need to feel totally confident and comfortable in the way you look so you enjoy your day to it’s fullest. After all being beautiful is being confident. Knowing which colour and style suits you best can make choosing a dress a more enjoyable experience and save you a lot of time and money. There are so many things to consider such as necklines, skirt shapes, dress length, fabric type... the list goes on. The right dress can be overshadowed, by the wrong jewellery or odd-shaped flower bouquet for example, so knowing how to complete your look so that everything is balanced is also impor tant. I have included some tips to help you get this right on the day.

So which dress is for you? First determine which style suits you best, as this is the most impor tant par t of choosing a dress. Use the following guide to help you find the style for you.

Hourglass Shape You have a small waist with broad hips and a full chest. Your voluptuous bottom and thick thighs make your lower body in proportion with your upper body. If you gain weight it goes evenly to all your curves but not your waist. Best dress styles and necklines for the Hourglass Shape. You are well suited to many styles. Those that accentuate your tiny waist and curves are especially flattering. A fishtail will look amazing

on you, also tight skirts, empire waists and boned corset tops. Vertical detailing on the top of your dress with either a scooped or off the shoulder neckline will flatter you. V-shaped necklines, halter styles and strapless will also work well with your figure.

Pear Shape Your upper body is smaller than your lower body. You have full thighs and calves, curvy hips and bottom, well-defined waist, small to medium bust, and a narrow back. If you gain weight it will go to your thighs and hips. Best dress styles and necklines for the Pear Shape. The main aim here is to balance the top half of the body with the bottom half. Full skir ts, slim A-line styles, empire and two-piece gowns North Coast WEDDINGS

15

sleeves and bodices help in balancing out the proportions. A bodice with a dropped waist, or a traditional bodice, which comes down to a point, is very flattering. Definitely avoid straight skirts. V shaped necklines work well, but if you have a full bust make sure the neckline is not too low.

Rectangle Shape

Petite Shape

You have minimal curves, broad shoulders, an undefined waist, a medium sized bust, a small bottom and athletic arms and legs. Your weight gain is fairly evenly distributed over the entire body. Best dress styles and necklines for the Rectangle Shape. A simple, feminine A-line style that gives curves where you want them is best. A corset top and full skir t adds a waist and bust shape. Draping with pleats in the skirt and a dropped waist is also good. Empire can also be very flattering on you. High necklines and wide straps will soften and hide broad shoulders. Other styles to consider include scooped or V shaped necklines, spaghetti straps and strapless designs.

Obviously you will be much smaller ver tically and horizontally than the average person. Best dress styles and necklines for the Petite Shape. A-line or long-line style dresses with detail at the neckline and hem draw the eye up and down the length of your frame. Empire line designs are also suitable for your height, as they begin just under the bust, which gives the illusion of a bigger bust and greater height. If you like a fitted dress choose a mermaid skir t, which kicks out at the bottom. Go for simplicity, you want to achieve a taller look so avoid waistlines which will cut you in half and shorten your legs. Avoid ball gown and full skir ts, as they will overpower you. Wear high heels. Off the shoulder, scooped necklines, shoestring straps and high necklines will work well for you.

Apple Shape Your lower body is smaller than your upper body. You have slim thighs, thin hips, a small bottom, an undefined waist, a full bust and broad shoulders. Weight gain is noticed more in your waist area. Best dress styles and necklines for the Apple Shape. A flowing train, A-line skirt, textured skirt, empire waist, cinched waist are the most desirable styles for this shape. Look for styles that add width to your lower half to create that balance. Dresses with minimum shoulder details, simple

North Coast WEDDINGS

Plus Size You will be size 16+.You will be more curvaceous and more round than most. Best dress styles and necklines for Plus Sizes. Two of the best styles for plus size ladies are empire line designs, which fall softly from just under the bust and elongate the length of your body, giving a more slimming effect; and the princess line top with an A-line skirt. With this style the top does not have a waistline where it meets the skir t, so the flow from neckline to

are all good choices for this shape. Draping and ruching provided it is with an A-line skirt works well, as do boat necks and small princess puffed sleeves. Wide or square necklines and especially off the shoulder dresses, where the horizontal line gives the illusion of width at the top, are also good options for you.

hemline is very flattering. Deep V necklines will give the illusion of a slimmer you, while enhancing your best assets.

Things to consider Style: There are so many styles to choose from but they won’t all suit your body type. Take the time to understand your body shape and what styles complement you. You should be looking for balance and harmony. Neckline: The neckline will draw attention to your upper body so you will need to ask yourself does it flatter your body shape and enhance your bust, or just serve to highlight what is missing? Fabric: Choose appropriate fabric to suit the season you will be married in and notice if it clings to every bump or skims over your body to give a perfect line. Length: Does it elongate you if you are shor t or make the most of your elegant stature if you’re tall? Skirt Shape: The best silhouette for the skir t is A-line. Try on each wedding dress shape to see which one flatters you the most. Does it fall elegantly giving the illusion of perfectly curvaceous hips or accentuate your heavy thighs and bumps? Colour: There are hundreds of different shades of white used in the fashion industry. Not to mention all the other colours that are available. If you want to steer away from tradition and have a coloured dress, the same principles apply. Your favourite colour may not suit your skin tone, hair colour etc, but a different shade of that colour may work instead. Try to be open-minded when making your decisions. Be careful to ensure you choose a colour that works for you. Does it lift your skin

tone and enhance your natural beauty or drain you of colour leaving you looking unwell? Most impor tant is to choose the colour that makes your skin look gorgeous. Soft white, ivory or creams are easiest to wear for most skin tones.

More Dress Tips Make sure you can walk, dance, turn, sit and bend comfor tably, as well as lift your arms to hug loved ones. Take your shoes or shoes the same height as you plan to wear when trying on dresses, to make sure the dress will be long enough. Ordering Your Size: If you are planning on losing weight you will have to factor this in when deciding what size to order. But be realistic, it is much easier to take a dress in and not always possible to let it out. Be very careful, as you don’t want any last minute alterations causing you more stress and bother. The Final Decision: Give yourself ample time to think things through carefully so you are not putting too much pressure on yourself. I suggest the first time you start looking for your wedding dress go on your own so you are not influenced by anyone else’s likes or dislikes.

Don’t be afraid to try on as many dresses as you can. You will soon discover which type and colour suits you. You will need to take someone with you for your final choice but ensure they are a very trusted friend or family member. Only take a couple of people at the most as too many friends with opinions can make deciding harder. You will need to see the dress from every angle to make sure it is absolutely perfect. Take the back view especially into consideration, as it will be on display for all to see for the entire ceremony. A tip here is to get your friend to take photographs of you wearing the dress for you to ponder later. Make sure you get permission from the shop assistant, as some stores don’t allow this.

To Complete Your Look Underwear: The correct fitting underwear is extremely important as it can either make or break the look. There’s nothing worse than seeing a gorgeous bride pulling her bra up all night long or seeing her underwear digging in through her dress. This is one area I would suggest you take your time and you may have to

spend that little bit more to get it right. Shoes: Keep in mind you will be on your feet for the majority of the day so ensure your shoes are very comfor table. I suggest you wear them at home a few times before the big day. Shoes should be in propor tion with your dress and body type so they don’t dominate your overall look. Jewellery: Jewellery should be kept simple but elegant and reflect your personality. Keep things consistent and in proportion with the whole outfit, consider details on your dress and don’t over accessorise. Bouquet: Your bouquet size will depend on how big or small you and your dress is. If you keep it all the same when it comes to your flowers the entire outfit will look stunning. For example, small build - small bouquet. Budget: It pays to shop around. Wedding dresses don’t have to be expensive. Determine how much both families can contribute and work around that to determine your overall budget and your dress budget. Article by Robyn Kelleher

April & Phil

The Meeting We met at Moo Moo’s in Broadbeach, from our very first meeting we knew that what we had found in each other was extremely rare and something to be treasured.

The proposal We were on a European holiday and Phil suggested we go for a walk to watch the sunrise over the Eiffel Tower. We walked past a stranger and Phil asked them to take our photo. He then said to me, ‘are you ready?’ I said ‘for what?’ He then dropped to one knee with the Eiffel Tower in the background and said. ‘I don’t want to waste another day, will you marry me?’ I was speechless which is extremely rare for me. Of course I said yes, he made all my dreams come true. North Coast WEDDINGS

the meeting Matt and I never really ‘first met’. Having grew up in the same town I left when I was younger, while Matt left after he finished school. The location of our ceremony was chosen because we feel it looks over one of the most beautiful places in the town. After a morning of rain the skies opened and allowed the sun to shine through for the entire ceremony. I walked with my dad towards the love of my life to the song ‘Sea of Love’ by Cat Power. Our ceremony was fairly short and to the point while being every bit meaningful. It was really amazing. Our reception was held in the Kempsey Showground, we were given free reign on the hall to do whatever we liked, this was great as it allowed me to make all of my ideas come to life Our first dance was ‘Harvest Moon’ by Neil Young. Within the hall we had a little tea corner set up that a few of the oldies could enjoy some chill out time in. Outside was a fire to hang out in front of. Why the NSW North Coast? This is where we live, this is where our home is, this is where our hearts are. North Coast WEDDINGS

With its secluded beaches, dazzling lakes, lush forests and rolling hinterland, the Great Lakes has something to offer every couple The Great Lakes region on the NSW mid-north coast spans from Forster in the nor th, through to Pacific Palms and Hawks Nest in the south, and inland to Stroud. Each area has its own special charm, perfect for both intimate and extravagant weddings. Located at the northern tip of the Great Lakes, the twin townships of Forster and Tuncurry are perfect for couples looking for a stunning coastal wedding venue. Many of the parks in Forster and Tuncurry can be booked for ceremonies, and ceremonies are also permitted on beaches and reserves. Some of the most popular places couples’ exchange vows in Forster include Pilot Hill, Second Head Reserve and the boat harbour. And one of the best things about these locations is you won’t need to spend a ton of time and money on decorations—the ocean is the ultimate backdrop for saying “I do.” If you’re planning a tranquil waterside ceremony, Pacific Palms might be for you. Kelsey & Josh

the meeting Our first meeting was at a mutual friend’s 18th Birthday party in Tea Gardens on the NSW Mid North Coast. We later found out after our first meeting that my grandmother and Josh’s grandfather had dated each other when they were 17 for a short space of time…spooky!

the proposal We were on a holiday in Far North Queensland at Fitzroy Island. On our last night on the island, Josh had organized a decadent picnic which we needed to pick up at 4pm. I stood up to take another photo of the beautiful ocean outlook before we left, I turned around and there was Josh on one knee with a gorgeous ring and I just burst into tears. It was one of the most amazing and magical moments in all my life, and of course I said yes. North Coast WEDDINGS

A creative wedding drinks list

Time to get creative for your wedding drinks list, people! In my experience too little thought is often given to the beverage choices at weddings, resulting in a distinct ‘sameness’, from one wedding to another. I believe that most couples want their wedding must stand out and be memorable in every way. For pre-dinner, look at cocktails to set the mood; fun, colourful and fruity, or strong, dark and elegant, a signature cocktail can reflect theming aspects of the event. Shaking or blending individual drinks can add cost, but many cocktail recipes can be prepared in bulk beforehand, chilled, poured and garnished as required. To help manage alcohol consumption, fruit purees, juices, soda, ginger beer can lengthen the drink, refresh and slow down the initial rush. Some options include punches, sangria, mojito, and seasonal fruit daiquiris. For dinner, try to seek advice regarding matching beverages with the style and flavours of the food. Wine is certainly the most traditional choice, and the range of wines now available can be quite staggering, often leading to the ‘too hard basket’, leave it to the venue decision. Most caterers will offer a menu tasting prior to the event, take the opportunity to try some different wines, looking at comparing or contrasting flavours and textures, looking for a harmonious balance. Don’t forget the bubbles, either. Champagne (French sparkling wine from the Champagne region), is considered the peak for many reasons, not least for cost, but there are now many excellent options available from many parts of the world, taste and compare for quality and price. After dinner, perhaps consider a small list of cocktails to offer your guests. Popular choices include espresso or chocolate martini, cocktails with spiced rum and ginger beer, and classics like whiskey sour, or Sazerac. Philip Caldicott, Sommelier, Oak Street Food & Wine

Lucy & Daniel

The meeting Daniel and I met when I just opened my salon and I needed help in the business, I casually asked him if he wanted to meet for drinks, and let him know where I would be that night, later that night he turned up and asked for my number and we haven’t been apart since.

the proposal Daniel and I were holidaying in New Zealand and we went to many romantic places to which I now know Daniel was waiting to propose and I kept mucking things up for him. We went on a helicopter flight to the top of the Remarkables Mountain, we were told that it was just to be the two of us, except a the last minute an additional tourist joined our flight. Later that afternoon I had a nanna nap and as I was waking up, Daniel joked around about getting engaged, so I pulled the covers back over me to fall back asleep. I heard him ruffling around and when I looked, there he was on one knee and he proposed. North Coast WEDDINGS

SHORT & SWEET: POP-UP WEDDINGS You’ve probably heard of pop-up stores and restaurants— but what about pop-up weddings? Read on to discover what this quirky trend is all about. SO WHAT IS IT? Billed as a low-fuss, cost-effective way to tie the knot, a pop-up wedding combines the ease and simplicity of an elopement with all the excitement of a fancy ceremony. This trend is catching on, and there are now pop-up wedding companies in every state. While packages vary between companies, they generally begin from $1500 and include a shor t ceremony (around one hour long) with an

58

North Coast WEDDINGS

authorised celebrant, followed by a professional photo shoot. For a little extra, some companies also organise a bridal bouquet, hair and makeup, cake and refreshments, a wedding film and a small reception with your closest friends and family.

OKAY, TELL ME MORE… The options for pop-up wedding locations are as varied as those for traditional weddings,

ranging from relaxed, natural settings, such as beaches and gardens, to more sophisticated venues, such as resorts and art galleries. While there will be several other like-minded couples getting married at the same venue on the same day (which helps keep costs down), each ceremony is a private event. The number of guests you’re able to invite varies depending on specific venues and organisers, but keep in mind some companies

may require you to bring at least two people to witness the ceremony. Most couples who chose to have a pop-up wedding keep it simple, only inviting their parents and their closest friends and relatives, but many companies can comfor tably seat and cater for around 15-25 guests. After the shor t ceremony, you and your guests can head to a nearby restaurant, park or bar for the reception and spend the rest of the day celebrating. Pop-up weddings come in a wide variety of themes, covering everything from rustic country to glitz and glamour. To keep costs down, styling and décor remains the same from ceremony to ceremony; however, some pop-up wedding companies offer the oppor tunity to customise cer tain details, such as the bridal bouquet and processional song. If you have your hear t set on something specific, it’s a good idea to chat to the organisers to see if they can make it work.

IS IT RIGHT FOR ME? If you and your par tner aren’t comfortable with letting someone else choose the finer details

of your special day or you really want a certain photographer or cake designer, this type of wedding probably isn’t the best option for you. And it’s definitely not something that will suit couples with a big guest list. But if the mere thought of organising menus and seating char ts makes you break out in a sweat and you’re seriously considering eloping, then a pop-up wedding might be just what you’re looking for. You can simply choose from the available dates and locations and leave the rest up to the pros. Of course, reduced cost is also a big advantage. Sharing the day with several other couples who are contributing to venue and supplier costs means pop-up weddings are significantly less expensive than traditional weddings, which is great if you’d prefer to save up for a house or go all out on a extravagant honeymoon. If you choose to jump on board the pop-up wedding trend, you will need to lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage and wait one month, during which you can relax and enjoy being engaged.

pop up facts: • Cost effective way to have a fabulous wedding • Perfect for couples that don’t want to spend months or years planning a wedding • Takes the hassles out of planning the guest list • Come in a wide variety of themes • Each ceremony is a private event • You can customise cer tain details of your wedding • Yes, it’s legal

The meeting We met 6 years ago whilst I was working at a pet shop. Michael came in one weekend to buy a pet fish. I sold him all the necessary items to care for the fish but he kept coming back each weekend asking silly questions about how he was supposed to care for this spoilt fighting fish! Haha. Eventually he asked me out for dinner and the rest is history!

The proposal It was the first day in our new house together and we were walking around our big back yard looking to see if there were any fish in the dam when he dropped to one knee and proposed!

the ceremony We had a relaxed garden ceremony at our house under some big beautiful camphaloral tree’s. Kyle Lionhart played the music for us and he was amazing! It was a magical day that we wished would never end! The whether was amazing and everything came together perfectly North Coast WEDDINGS

discover the tweed Photo: Ceremony on the beach at Cabarita by Third Eye Photo

Whether you’re after a laidback beach ceremony, a rustic country wedding or a rainforest hideaway, you can’t go past the Tweed region Nestled in the caldera of an ancient shield volcano, the Tweed stretches from beautiful Byron Bay to Queensland’s Gold Coast. Getting there is a breeze—the Twin Towns of Tweed Heads and Coolangatta are just five minutes’ drive from the Gold Coast Airport, which is serviced by affordable flights from major cities and regional centres. The picturesque region boasts everything from tranquil seaside villages and historic river ports, to pockets of rainforests and quiet country hamlets, and its sub-tropical climate means it rarely gets too hot or too cold, making it the ideal wedding location year-round. With thirty-seven kilometres of sun-kissed beaches, it’s easy to see why the Tweed Coast is a popular wedding destination, with a choice of quiet seaside venues and sophisticated resorts. Some of the most popular beach ceremony locations include Fingal Head and Dreamtime Beach, Salt Beach and Casuarina Beach. For those who don’t want to have their ceremony on the sand but still want the relaxed atmosphere and water views, Ebenezer Park (which overlooks the Tweed River) is a great option. Hastings Point also offers a stunning ceremony backdrop; this exposed headland will provide an uninterrupted view of the pristine coastline on

your big day. For a vintage or rustic wedding, look no further than Murwillumbah. This country town in the Tweed Valley is dotted with art deco shop fronts and federation-style buildings that offer lovely photo opportunities, and it’s a great base if you and your guests want to explore the Valley’s quaint villages and scenic countryside. Whether you’re heading to the Tweed Valley or Coast (or both!), there is an array of affordable reception and accommodation options, including first class resort hotels, luxurious spas, camping grounds, cosy cabins, friendly B&Bs and historic country pubs. The region offers a wealth of pre- and postceremony activities for you and your guests, such as snorkelling with turtles at Cook Island, kayaking and canoeing, bushwalking, deep-sea and beach fishing, surfing, whale watching and swimming at the safe, patrolled beaches. The region is famous for its locally-grown fresh produce, and some of the best restaurants and cafes can be found in Kingscliff, Salt Village, Tweed Heads and Murwillumba. With its wide variety of things to see and do, the Tweed is also makes a wonderful honeymoon destination. You and your partner can celebrate your marriage with a romantic stroll along a

secluded beach, a feast of fresh seafood, spa pampering and a peaceful cruise on the Tweed River. For more information on visiting the Tweed, go to www.destinationtweed.com.au

the meeting Where did you first meet? ..We met at a house party in Paddington, Sydney, held by our mutual friend of many years. Somehow, despite many sliding doors moments, we had not met until this night

the proposal Prior to embarking on a 6 week holiday in Europe, David asked to stop by this very house on the way to dinner one Saturday night.. In the kitchen (where we had first laid eyes upon each) other was waiting a room full of candles, my favourite champagne and a romantic proposal!

We went for country chic as our style, given the ceremony was being held on Amy’s parent’s cattle property in a 100 year old (now unused) dairy shed. Decorations were simple, sleek all white and guests wore black tie attire. We left the old rustic farm tools and props on the walls to make it feel very real and authentic. Guests sat on rows on yellow straw hay bales dressed in think white fabric and brown twine. Our reception was a very intimate gathering of only 55 people. We had a live 4-piece band called ‘Wear the Fox Hat’ that did an incredible job of getting everyone (I mean everyone) dancing from early on in the evening. The staff at Harvest were incredible, the food was outof-this world. The ceremony and reception were as amazing as I could have imagine. So memorable and intimate and felt like ‘us’. Our favourite people in the world were all in one place sharing the special day with us and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Why did you decide to get married on the NSW North Coast? It is the most beautiful place in the world! Amy’s parents live in The Pocket and David’s family dates back to owning the pharmacy in Bangalow, a true sign we were meant to tie the knot in this stunning part of the world. North Coast WEDDINGS

Saying ‘I do’? You’ve been planning your wedding day for months and everything’s organised – but have you thought about what happens once your marriage is solemnised? One of the decisions you’ll need to consider is whether or not to change your name. There is no law to make you change your name. However, it’s a custom that has been accepted across Australia since weddings began. Now the choice is up to the individual but whatever you decide, you need to remember there are cer tain legal requirements associated with changing your name. On the day of your wedding you will be presented with a Commonwealth of Australia “Cer tificate of Marriage.” However, this may not be accepted as a form of identification to change your name. After you are married, your civil or religious celebrant will forward the paperwork to the NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages to register your wedding. This is how the state knows you have solemnised your marriage. Once the marriage is registered, you can apply for the standard marriage cer tificate. This cer tificate is required if you want to change your name on important documents such as your passport or driver’s licence. Add $23.00 if you would like a commemorative cer tificate. Whatever you decide, the name of the game is change or not to change. Like us on facebook.com/bdm.nsw or for more information, visit our website at www.bdm.nsw.gov.au or phone 13 77 88.

the meeting We met at a mutual friends BBQ.

The proposal Sonny proposed to me on my 30th bir thday which we were actually celebrating in Bali. We were out for a beautiful dinner with both of our families and a bunch of friends. I had no idea it was happening.

The wedding I wanted our wedding to be intimate, cosy and romantic. I’m not sure what style or theme I could say it was I just knew I wanted to make our guests feel those emotions. Guests all met in Byron and were transported to our wedding which was a surprise venue for all of them. We felt keeping it a surprise would keep them just as excited to see everything as we were. Our ceremony was held on the grass under a beautiful big fig tree. We decided to take a special moment with our mothers. They were the first to give us a kiss and cuddle when they brought us into this world so we wanted to say one last little

thank you before we officially became Mr and Mrs. Michelle our celebrant really understood how we wanted to express our love and with our help wrote our perfect ceremony. Our reception seating we chose kept the intimate and cosy. It allowed for everyone to mingle with more than the person next to or opposite them as we were all so close. We sat ourselves right in the middle of it all so we could really celebrate with our friends. We had a beautiful rustic chandelier and fairy lights inside. Outside the barn we had more lights draped around the perimeter with a comfy hamptons style couch and beautiful cowhide butterfly chairs. Our guests were able to move about freely with our choice of reception. They could get cosy on the couches, chairs or dance up a storm. Why did you decide to get married on the NSW North Coast? We have spent a lot of time down Byron way and thought it would be a nice way to enjoy the beautiful place with our nearest and dearest. It gave everyone a great excuse to take a day or two and really soak up the serenity! See following page for Dream Weddings vendors. North Coast WEDDINGS

Gabrielle & Mark

the meeting We first met when Mark was at University and I was in year 12. We were both invited to a mutual friends 18th birthday party and were seated next to each other for dinner. We got chatting, I was so shy that I didn’t say much! I am surprised Mark stuck around. the proposal We got engaged in Thailand on Bamboo island. I organised a sunset cruise for the Saturday afternoon on a longtail boat out to the island. The day was perfect, we arrived at the island and our resort man set up our romantic lunch, (at this stage I was fairly nervous, I had the ring in my back pocket). At about 5:30 I was feeling relaxed and I knew it was time. I had a whole speech prepared, but totally forgot it. I bit the bullet and asked her to marry me. Gabby put her hands up to her face and said yes, a total surprise. A perfect afternoon. North Coast WEDDINGS

Ashleigh & Jye

The meeting Jye and I were in year 12 when we met. We went to different high schools but had mutual friends. The night that we met I was adamant I didn’t want to go out with my friends but I’m so glad I did, otherwise we wouldn’t of met each other. After meeting, we added each other on facebook and become really good friends. Three months later we were dating!

the proposal We were going to Coffs Harbour for the day, like we do regularly. We had lunch at the Jetty and then decided to climb Mutton Bird Island. When we got over the otherside of the Island, Jye got down on one knee and asked me to marry me! It was perfect

Our wedding theme was rustic/country. It wasn’t over the top rustic, we still wanted it to reflect us. Ash’s favourite colour is purple, so we had purple as our main colour. I love flowers, so choosing our wedding flowers was really impor tant to me. I loved what Skye, our florist came up with. I gave her an idea of the flowers and colours I wanted, but left it up to her to interpret what I described. I wanted something that was less structured and had a picked from the garden type of look. My bouquet of flowers also featured a memory charm that had a picture of my nanna and pa on their wedding day, it was a lovely way to remember them and have them their on our special day Jye and I didn’t follow a lot of traditions on our wedding day. We stayed together the night before and got ready at the same place, with a house full of relative Our ceremony was amazing. We choose a quiet park by the river for our ceremony. It is a place we have visited many times for picnics and family photos and it means so much more to us now that we have had our wedding there. The day of our wedding it was a little bit overcast and after the shower of rain, there was a rainbow across the river and the sun was bright and beautiful for the rest of the afternoon. Why did you decide to get married on the NSW North Coast? We have grown up on the NSW North Coast and currently live here, so it was an easy choice. North Coast WEDDINGS

Hollie & Matthew

The meeting We met when we were both studying at Macquarie University.

The proposal While we were living in London, Matt told me had booked us a weekend away to Paris. As soon as he told me his plans, I knew he was going to propose. After checking in at a flash hotel, spending the day at the Louvre and then an amazing dinner out, he proposed to me back in the hotel (as I had always said a public proposal was not for me!!). I don’t remember much of what he said, except half way through his speech he said “Oh I better get down on one knee shouldn’t I?”

The Flowers Emma Louise did our flowers and was a pleasure to work with. I pulled pictures online of what I liked, showed her images of the girls dresses and then let her run with it. She also did the flowers for the ceremony, our arch and posies that hung off the chairs along the aisle. 94

the wedding We didn’t really have a “theme”. Given how beautiful Bonville is on its own, we didn’t really feel as though we needed one, especially as we chose to have our ceremony down on the 17th tee. We just wanted the whole day to be stress-free, relaxed, natural and enjoyable for guests. Colours wise, we went with lilacs/mauves/hydrangea blue – though this was only really evident in the flowers and the girl’s dresses. Alison Bartlett conducted our ceremony and made it really personal, telling the story of how we met, the proposal, bits and pieces about our relationship, what we love and appreciate about one another. Reception was relaxed. It’s such a beautiful room and the weather had settled down, so we had some guests seated outside. We didn’t do a “bridal” table - we sat at a round table so we were able to chat to our bridal party & their partners who joined us. Why did you decide to get married on the NSW North Coast? I grew up in Coffs Harbour, so it was nice to come back to get married. We were in the situation where my family is in Coffs, Matt’s are in Tamworth and our friends were mainly in Sydney, so either way we would have to have guests travelling to be there – we figured Coffs was the nicest for a weekend away. Plus Bonville is a spectacular venue that had the right feel for the style we were going for. We also hoped all our friends from Sydney would enjoy a different and beautiful venue.
