ave the date cards and invitations offer friends and family the first glimpse of what’s in store for your special day. the proposal It was a cold and windy Sunday night and Matt had called me to go for a walk. I put up a fight complaining about the cold and refused to leave the house until Matt had come over with all of his jackets for me to wear. We drove up to King Edward park, where the wind was much worse and I continued to fight the idea of being blown away. Eventually Matt managed to get me out of the car to walk down to the rose gardens in the park, where in the center he had set up fairylights and a picnic with champagne and chocolates. He took me in his hands, got down on one knee and now the rest is history. North Coast WEDDINGS

A Bride’s Diary I first stayed at Deux Belettes when my boyfriend booked a secret Valentine’s getaway for us in Byron Bay. After a thirty-minute drive up into the hinterland, we entered the French iron gates and I was overwhelmed by how wildly romantic it all was: the stone bridge over the lily pond, where geese ducked their heads in and out of the water; the beautiful plane trees that lined the driveway and reminded me of my childhood in Europe; and the majestic stone chateau hidden behind it all. Four years later, my boyfriend proposed.The dreams I had since a little girl of marrying my prince in a castle were to become a reality the following autumn. When my four bridesmaids and I stayed at Deux Belettes the night before the wedding, it felt like coming home. The entire top floor of the chateau was our sanctuary. I remember French beds made up with exquisite hand-stitched antique linen, crystal vases full of roses, silver bowls with chocolates and strawberries and ice buckets with champagne. The vision of my wedding gown hanging from the chandelier above my bed will be forever etched in my memory.

On the morning of my wedding, we took a relaxing stroll through the adjacent rainforest. We were back for breakfast just as the croissants arrived fresh from the bakery. In the salon under an old gilt chandelier, we dined on truffled eggs, smoked salmon, ham, cheeses, fresh yoghurt and fruit. As the day went on, flowers arrived, photographers snuck around and we drank champagne. Then I was at the bottom of the shell-encrusted staircase, waiting for our favourite song. Rose petals scattered on the cobbled pathway as I almost ran into the waiting arms of my fiancé. I remember birds singing in the rosewood tree as we said “I do” and the smell of rosemary and lavender during our first dance under a twinkling canopy of fairy lights. My wedding was everything I could’ve wished to share with my nearest and dearest, and Deux Belettes made it come true. the proposal We took 12 months off to travel the around Europe and America together, whilst in America we did a Ski Season in a small town called Steamboat Springs in Colorado, Cody proposed in an early morning Hot Air Ballon over the snowy Yampa Valley with a ring he had made in Italy from a jewellery store that I loved, it was absolutely magical (and freezing). The dress My dress had a bodice covered in French lace and a full princess style skirt in soft greys and nude tulle. Cody wore a rather dashing but modern tuxedo with black patent shoes.

K-born, and residing on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Heidi is the driving force behind boutique headpiece business, Shut The Front Door (shutthefrontdoor.com.au). With a background in the beauty industry and wedding consultancy, Heidi’s designs can now be seen adorning the heads of brides across the country. “I’m quite bold with my pieces, and I’m known for my statement designs,” explains Heidi. “Like my name, Shut The Front Door, it’s big, it’s bold, it’s brash, it’s out there. But I do also cater for the more discerning bride, who just wants a little something special created.” After working for a renowned bridal fashion label in 2012, Heidi began crafting her own collections. “I worked at Elizabath De Varga for two years managing their Sunshine
Coast store,” she says. “And during that time, I began creating their headpieces and flowers for the gowns. So it was a natural progression to create my own designs.” With a style evoking both a childlike innocence and sense of whimsy, and an undeniable confidence and adult sophistication, her pieces have captured the attention of both the traditional and contemporary bride. “I am inspired by texture and elements from nature,” she explains. “It’s the organic forms that evoke my creativity: the shape of a leaf, the wisp of a cloud, the way water falls. But I also draw a lot of inspiration from enchanted stories and fairy tales. My headpiece Cigno, from the collection All That Glitters, is inspired by the majestic mythical creature, the unicorn.”

the proposal Tim and I were on a skiing holiday in Queenstown, New Zealand and after a day of skiing we decided to take in some of the sights over Queenstown via a Gondola. As I was distracted by the beautiful sights and busy taking pictures of the scenery little did I know Tim was preparing to propose. I turned around to Tim on one knee and asked me if I would be his “forever”. As it turns out it was the 22nd July and as 22 was Tim’s lucky number he felt there was no better day to ask me to be his forever and of course I said YES!

Finding the right celebrant You want your ceremony to be the best ceremony ever! Here are some tips and advice to help you make that important choice.
C
hoosing the celebrant for your special day It is very exciting when you star t to plan your wedding day and yet, there are so many things to consider. Your marriage ceremony should be one of the highlights of your wedding day and can set the tone for the celebration to follow. You want your ceremony to be the best ceremony ever! Find a celebrant that will suppor t you to have what you want and whose presence you really enjoy. Since 1999, the use of registered celebrants for weddings has increased. According to the Bureau of Statistics, in 2012, 71.9% of couples
chose registered celebrants as their wedding officiant. The number of professional celebrants has also increased dramatically in the last ten years so there is certainly plenty of choice available. If you don’t have any referrals from friends or family then the Yellow Pages, the local wedding guide or searching the internet are great places to source registered celebrants. A celebrant’s website is likely to give you a sense of whether you wish to email or call them and find out what they offer. Feel free to ring around until you find someone who you have a rapport with. You
might prefer to meet them face to face or, if you live interstate, ask if you can have a Skype meeting. Some celebrants will charge for an initial consultation, so make sure you are clear about this before you commit to meeting with them. When you are talking with a celebrant, as well as discussing the details of the wedding, ask yourself, “Do I want this person at my wedding?” If the answer is no, then you can safely cross them off your list of prospects. If the answer is yes, get excited!

The proposal We were camping up at Crescent Head, NSW after Christmas; we went to the beach on New Year’s Day with our son, Josh, who was 5 at the time. Paul said he was taking our son to find ghost crabs in the water; I stayed on the sand reading. While the boys were in the water, Paul asked our son for his blessing to ask mummy to marry him, gave him the ring and then Paul carried him back over to where I was. Josh was super excited; I thought he’d caught a ghost crap! But to my pleasant surprise he opened his hand and there was an engagement ring; Paul got down on one knee next to Josh and asked me to marry him. The cutest part was when we got back to the camp site, he’d carved our initials into the tree, it’s the first thing we see when camping there every time. Here is a perfect example of how you can do this “The engagement ring is the promise of a commitment, and the wedding ring is the fulfilment of that promise. Tying it all together
If you are new to the Tuxedo game, a great place to star t is with the basics - black tux, white shir t and black bowtie. The classic tux plays on the fact that it doesn’t need to be daring, quirky or dangerous. It simply is sexy in a gentleman kind of way.
The long tie has for the better or worse become part of the formalwear family. Just make sure it works with the width and material of your lapels. Satin lapels means satin tie and if ever in doubt, stick to the traditional bowties.
Keep your shirt on
Touch of colour
At some point in the evening, you’re going to toss the jacket. So, make sure you’re wearing a slim-fit shir t that won’t hang loose and make you look like a pirate. Unless, that’s the look you’re going for ...in which case, you’re on your own.
If you want to mix up your colours, but not completely discard tradition, then try wearing a coloured jacket with a black or midnight blue tuxedo shir t.
Which lapel suits you? Wear it again! Peak lapel The original tuxedo debuted in 1886 in Tuxedo Park, New York and featured a peak lapel. This is old-school manliness at its best – wear it with pride and even try it with a ‘thebigger-the-better’ black bowtie.
Shawl collar This is the sexy fashion lapel – big through the 50’s and 60’s and back with a vengence! Traditionally a slimmer look than the other lapels, it is best worn as a classic black and white duo or styled up with midnight blue shir t and slim bowtie.
Notch Lapel If you are looking to play it safe, go with the notch lapel. This understated lapel resembles most suit jackets you would have in your wardrobe. The beauty of this lapel is it looks great on just about everyone!
Change it up
Tuxedo jackets are more popular than ever before. For the ‘sexy without caring’ look, try wearing your tuxedo jacket with your favourite fitted jeans and an open shirt or t-shir t.
The little things – footwear This should be obvious, but wear shoes are concerned the simpler the better. Black tie = black shoes. Make sure you stick to basic leather-soled l ace-ups or slip-ons. Or, if you are feeling extra fancy go for patent leather shoes.
If you want to look a little different from every other guy, you don’t have to stray from the tux. A midnight blue jacket with a satin black trim and black tuxedo pants is a classy alternative that wont scare your guests away! Or, if you still want to stand out without looking too much like a wedding singer, then try a smokey grey tux with satin lapels.
