GOALS

LTS PARENTS ATTEST “Within a week of his being in LTS PreK, he was a different kid…”

“He was excited to lead and more compliant at home. It was almost immediate and has only progressed from there.”

The goal of Lake Tahoe School character education is that every person will feel included, respected, and safe to take academic and social risks. Lake Tahoe School teachers and administrators put character development at the heart of the work we do with children. We are a caring community that shares the responsibility for character education among all of our staff. We emphasize the ideals of honesty, integrity, respect, compassion, generosity, and gratitude. Our staff stands poised to recognize teachable moments, both in and outside the classroom setting, as we help students to develop a moral compass. We want our graduates to develop strong interpersonal skills and to become agents for positive change both within and outside of their immediate communities. In order to foster this character development, our teachers give written and ongoing feedback for each child’s progress towards our LTS core values: • •

Building positive, caring relationships with our students, families, and colleagues is a cornerstone of character education. Character education is embedded in all student-adult relationships at the school and is not a separate curriculum. Teachable moments can arise anywhere and at anytime, and we stand poised to engage with students in those opportune moments. Children learn as much from their mistakes as they do from their successes, and we will support our students as they learn to navigate challenging situations. Faculty working together as a team to support one another and our students foster and model the kind of collaborative, team approach that we want our children to embrace as well. All children are unique and their needs and challenges must be individually respected and addressed. As students mature, they need increased opportunities for independence and leadership in order to grow into positive, proactive community members. Mentoring programs with older children set examples for younger ones.
