A Letter from Ruth Glass, Head of School Dear Lake Tahoe School Community, We are so very lucky to live in a time and place where generosity abounds. As we enter our 20th year, Lake Tahoe School’s foundation and first floor are firmly laid, and we are poised to continue figurative – and literal – construction of our beautiful facility. Your donations to Annual Fund provided many of the “furnishings” of our wonderful schoolhouse: technology, art and music, adventure learning, science, and professional development for our remarkable faculty, among other things. What made your gifts even more extraordinary was that they were considered part of our Capital Campaign for the first of a two-year period and actually brought in three times the amount that you gave us, thanks to the munificence of Dave and Cheryl Duffield. In 2003, when our current facility became the home of Lake Tahoe School, Mr. and Mrs. Duffield were integral to our success. Twenty years from now, when we have added to our campus and LTS has cemented its position as a top tier PK-8 independent school, we will look back at this particular time in our school’s history and the Duffields’ generosity at this juncture as having been the determining factor in our success.

child and the shared responsibility to each other. We are as proud and appreciative of acts of kindness as we are of academic successes. We understand and embrace the fact that every child grows at a different rate physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Our faculty, too has matured steadily over the years. As we begin the transition to a new Head of School, I could not be happier with the team that he will inherit. Our teachers work as a collaborative group to deliver the program that distinguishes Lake Tahoe School from all other schools in the Basin. We have a fine mix of professionals who have been with us for many years and newer folks who have brought with them fresh ideas. Some new furnishings for our comfortable and lived-in rooms. None of the above would be possible without your consistent and generous support. I am deeply grateful, every day. Warm Regards,

Ruth Glass

Because our tuition is less than the cost of educating each student, in essence EVERY CHILD at Lake Tahoe School receives a subsidized education. Even if a family pays full tuition, they are still being subsidized. If a family receives any sort of financial assistance, that subsidy grows. To balance this equation, please consider the following:

3) If your family receives financial assistance for your children to attend Lake Tahoe School, please make as significant a commitment to the Annual Fund as possible, support Lake Tahoe School in volunteer hours, and enrich the education of your child by being as involved as you can in the life of Lake Tahoe School. Gifts of time, talent, and treasure come in many forms, and all are welcomed and appreciated.

1) Consider a gift to the Annual Fund in the amount of the gap as a way to help offset the real cost of your child’s education. If you don’t, who will? 2) Gifts over the tuition gap support the critical resources that set a Lake Tahoe School education apart; a student-to-teacher ratio of 6:1; literacy specialists, mathematics specialists, extensive field trips, dedicated science, language, music, art, PE, and technology instructors who are experts in their respective fields; a clean, open, well-maintained and safe facility; a full range of athletic and outdoor education offerings; and the list goes on.

Proven Academics The consistently strong historical placement of our graduates in highly regarded high schools and colleges around the country continues to confirm the quality and success of an LTS education. Cutting edge technology, including iPads and Apple TVs throughout the school, provides students with access to the world. Experienced, passionate, and dedicated teachers support every child.

Athletics & Adventure

Small and mighty, Lake Tahoe School teams continue to bring home hardware. 95% of students in 5th – 8th grades participate in interscholastic sports. Bobcats compete successfully on crosscountry, basketball, volleyball, Nordic skiing, and track teams. In addition, Thursday’s ski and snowboard program involves 80% of our students. Our students also explore ecosystems in the Tahoe Basin and beyond.

Creative Expression Our students are encouraged to share their insights, perceptions, and ideas through multiple media. Specialized teachers in art, music, technology, science, modern language, and PE work closely with core classroom teachers to integrate all aspects of the curriculum.

The Difference You Made

Critical Thinking LTS students learn early that there is always more than one answer and more than one avenue to solutions. An emphasis on collaboration and hands-on learning inspires children to take academic risks. Teachers recognize critical thinking as one of the key components of 21st Century teaching and learning.

Leadership & Character Bobcats are handed the responsibility of working together and learning empathy the moment they begin at LTS. Children are empowered to resolve their own conflicts and to be willing and able to distinguish between right and wrong and act accordingly. LTS graduates frequently populate leadership positions in the high schools they attend.
