COLORADO RAPIDS vs HOUSTON DYNAMO DICK’S SPORTING GOODS PARK, Commerce City, Colo. October 27, 2012 (WEEK 33, MLS Game #319) 7 p.m. MT (Altitude; FS-Hou+/MultiM) The Colorado Rapids conclude their 2012 season when they play host to the Houston Dynamo on Saturday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in a game that could have huge implications for the visitors. The Rapids are coming off a 20 win at Chivas USA in their final away match last weekend. The Dynamo enter the weekend in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, but could rise as high as third with a win and favorable results earlier Saturday afternoon, following a 3-1 win vs. Philadelphia last weekend to conclude an undefeated campaign on their home ground. Since a 1-0 Dynamo win April 19, 2009 at Robertson Stadium, Colorado has won three of the five meetings, with two draws.  The Rapids haven’t lost to the Dynamo at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park since a 3-1 Houston victory in 2008.  Coaches record: Oscar Pareja vs. HOU: first game … Dominic Kinnear vs. COL: P24 W11 L6 D7 COLORADO RAPIDS The Colorado Rapids put an end to their winless streak after four games, defeating Chivas USA 2-0 on Saturday evening at The Home Depot Center. The Rapids are in seventh place in the Western Conference with 34 points from 33 games. LAST MATCH  The Rapids took the lead in the 16th minute. From out on the left from a cleared service, Tyson Wahl whipped a cross into the middle of the box and Jaime Castrillón flicked a header to Martin Rivero, who was completely unmarked on the right side of the goal. He settled the ball and ripped a shot past a helpless Tim Melia in the Chivas goal.  Colorado doubled the lead in the 40th minute when Omar Cummings found Kamani Hill unmarked on the left side of the area. Hill snapped a header that got past Melia and into the back of the net.  Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja made four changes to the side that fell 4-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Steward Ceus came into the goal for Matt Pickens, Tyson Wahl started at left back in place of Luis Zapata, Jaime Castrillon entered the midfield for Brian Mullan, and Kamani Hill started up top in place of Andre Akpan.  COLORADO RAPIDS (4-4-2): Steward Ceus - Hunter Freeman, Marvell Wynne, Drew Moor, Tyson Wahl Martin Rivero, Jeff Larentowicz, Hendry Thomas, Jaime Castrillon (Jamie Smith 72) - Omar Cummings (Joseph Nane 86), Kamani Hill (Tony Cascio 66)

TEAM NEWS  The Rapids won for the first time since Sept. 5, and will now be looking to put together back-to-back victories for the first time this season since winning their opening two matches of the campaign.  “We have a bunch of professionals here that face every game with the same attitude despite the position. We’re not in the running for the playoffs but today they played like if it was one of those games,” said Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja. “I give credit to a group that is professional and came in and fought, but put a lot of good ideas and played good soccer on the field.”  Kamani Hill made just his second start of the season, his first since April 21, and just his third appearance since mid-August. He scored his fourth goal, his first since April 28.  “As a player, every game you play to win, and every game you play to do your best, because you are being seen, you never know who is watching the game,” said Hill. “Every game is important individually. We came out and did our thing and I thought we gelled as a team, which is most important.”  Said Pareja: “That’s one of those cases where it comes down to decisions on selecting the players for different matches and he understands as well that the consistency hasn’t been there. But Kamani brings things. As a player, he has been in our plans.”  Making his first MLS start – in his fourth season for the club – goalkeeper Steward Ceus recorded the shutout.  “He has been very patient waiting for this moment, the game rewarded him. It wasn’t just his first MLS start, but he won it and no goals conceded. A lot of positive things not just for the group, but for Stew,” said Pareja. Said Ceus: “Getting my first game as a start and coming in with a clean sheet is definitely huge. It’s a big boost in confidence to come out with a clean sheet and win .”  Tyson Wahl also returned to the starting lineup, making his first since Aug. 31, and his fourth start for the club since being acquired from the Montréal Impact.  Martín Rivero returned to the scoresheet for the first time since May 6, netting his second goal of the season.  “Playoffs aren’t in sight but we have a lot to play for and we’re continuing to play hard and show what we have for the next game and for the year to come,” said Ceus. “Going into the season finale, I know it’s Fan Appreciation Day so we’re going to go out there and play our hearts out for the fans that have been coming out and supporting us.” HOUSTON DYNAMO The Houston Dynamo concluded their regular season home campaign unbeaten, getting two late goals for a 3-1 win against Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 53 points from 33 games. LAST MATCH  The Dynamo took the lead after just five minutes. After stripping Carlos Valdés of the ball, leaving the Union defender standing in pain, Macoumba Kandji raced in on goal and beat Philadelphia goalkeeper Zac MacMath with a calm, placed finish.  But Union pulled level in the 19th minute. Sheanon Williams capped an overlapping run with an early ball that found forward Jack McInerney slipping between the Dynamo defense to head home from the heart of the area.  Houston was back in front in the 71st minute. Brian Ching led the counter and picked out Boniek García on his left. After cutting in on his favored right foot, García hit a curling shot to the near post that MacMath could only deflect into the roof of the net for the eventual game-winner.  Four minutes later the game was sealed after Will Bruin was taken down by Valdés in the box, and Brad Davis stepped up to slot home the resulting penalty to MacMath’s right.  Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear made one change to the team that reached a 1-1 draw with the Montréal Impact at BBVA Compass Stadium. Brad Davis came back into the side in place of Calen Carr.  HOUSTON DYNAMO (4-4-2): Tally Hall - Kofi Sarkodie, Jermaine Taylor, Bobby Boswell, Corey Ashe - Boniek Garcia, Ricardo Clark, Adam Moffat (Giles Barnes 56), Brad Davis (Warren Creavalle 85) - Will Bruin, Macoumba Kandji (Brian Ching 67). TEAM NEWS  With the draw, the Dynamo secured their berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs, a sixth postseason trip in seven seasons in Houston.  “I go back to my first year in San Jose, being coached by Dominic [Kinnear] was a complete change for me,” said midfielder Brad Davis. He has instilled a winning attitude and he holds us to a higher standard. There is not a day that he doesn’t come out and push us to the extreme and expect a lot out of us. In turn, we expect a lot out of each other.”  The Dynamo also became the fourth team in MLS history to go undefeated at home over an entire season, joining San Jose (2005), Real Salt Lake (2010) and LA Galaxy (2011).  “We are a team that is a never-say-die team and we kept going and we’re excited. Undefeated at home this year is a great accomplishment and most of all we are in the playoffs, which is huge,” said Davis. “We have

been talking all week about it being in our hands and what to do. We needed to come out, step up and win and that’s what we did. I’m extremely happy for the guys and happy to be in another set of playoffs.” The Dynamo also extended their overall home unbeaten streak to 25 games in league play, now the secondlongest in MLS history. Real Salt Lake’s 29-game streak from 2009-11 is the league record. “It’s a team achievement, 100 percent,” said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. “These guys are the ones that play, and play hard. I’m lucky and appreciative of all their efforts. I have a very nice job and I also have the best seat in the house watching these guys play.” With Davis back in the team after he missed the Montréal match with a calf strain, Kinnear returned to a 4-4-2 scheme. “Personnel is probably the most important thing for me,” Kinnear said. “The most important thing is to try and keep it simple and basic for the players. I like the 4-4-2. I like having two forwards who are making menacing runs down the wings and into the box, but sometimes it does change.” On Tuesday, the Dynamo secured their berth in the knockout phase of the 2012/13 CONCACAF Champions League with a 1-1 draw against CD Olimpia of Honduras as BBVA Compass Stadium. André Hainault equalizer in the 65th minute was all the Dynamo needed to move into the final eight next year. Here’s the Dynamo team: Tyler Deric; Warren Creavalle, Nathan Sturgis, Andre Hainault, Corey Ashe; Calen Carr (Macoumba Kandji 85), Luiz Camargo, Giles Barnes (Boniek Garcia 78), Colin Clark (Je-Vaughn Watson 46); Cam Weaver, Brian Ching

MLS Regular Season Date: Saturday, October 27, 2012 7:00 pm MT Location: Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Commerce City, Colo. Television: Altitude Radio: Mile High Sports Radio 93.7FM 1510AM Onda 1150AM COLORADO RAPIDS vs. HOUSTON DYNAMO On Saturday, the Colorado Rapids play the Houston Dynamo at 7 p.m. MT at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in their final match of the 2012 season. The Rapids are 5-7-4 all-time against the Dynamo, and 4-3-2 when at home. Colorado are 10-19-4 on the season, and fresh off of a 2-0 road victory against Chivas USA, led by goals from Martín Rivero and Kamani Hill. The Dynamo are 14-8-11 and currently fifth in the Eastern Conference. They’ve already clinched a playoff spot, but a win against the Rapids could improve their seeding in the playoffs. The Rapids have been plagued by late-season injuries and although the Rapids are out of the playoffs, young players, such as forwards Hill, Andre Akpan, Tony Cascio, and defenders Davy Armstrong and Chris Klute, could have the opportunity to prove themselves to the coaching staff before the season ends. Rapids give “Jerseys off our Backs” on Fan Appreciation Night On Saturday night, the Colorado Rapids present fans with the “Jerseys off our Backs”, as part of Fan Appreciation Night, where lucky fans will win authentic and match-worn jerseys from Rapids players in a special post-game ceremony. All players on the roster will present the lucky fans with their shirts—with those playing in the match presenting their gameworn jerseys—complete with an autograph. Rapids staff will visit randomly selected seats in the first half to find the participants who will win the jerseys after the match. Rapids to present 2012 team awards after Houston match The Colorado Rapids will present the 2012 team awards in a special post -game ceremony following the match against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night. There are a total of six honors available for players to win. Three of the awards (Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, and Young Player of the Year) are determined by a vote of Rapids players and assistant coaches, while the Golden Boot will go to the leading scorer. The Humanitarian of the Year is chosen by Rapids Community Relations and Kroenke Sports Charities, and an online vote will determine the Fan Favorite Award. Houston Connections Brian Mullan was acquired by the Rapids on September 15, 2010 from the Houston Dynamo (along with a 2013 MLS SuperDraft pick) in exchange for Colin Clark and allocation money. Clark played with the Rapids from 2006 to 2010, while Mullan was key to Houston’s midfield line-up for back-to-back MLS Cup Championships (2006 and 2007). Houston Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear played with the Rapids in 1996 as part of the inaugural team and played in the first

ever Rapids match vs. Kansas City. Rapids defender Hunter Freeman was signed by the Rapids in January 2012, having spent the 2011 season with Houston. He played in 23 matches, starting 22, and added five assists for the Dynamo. Houston forward Macoumba Kandji played for the Rapids from 2010 to 2011. Kandji was acquired midway through the 2010 season and made the play that led to the MLS Cup winning goal, tearing his ACL in the process. He returned to the pitch in 2011, playing nine games for a total of 16 for the Rapids before being traded to the Dynamo during the offseason. Rapids ‘keeper Ceus earns shutout in first MLS start Rapids goalkeeper Steward Ceus of West Haverstraw, NY, earned a shutout in his first career MLS start in the 2-0 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday night. The 6’6” goalkeeper made two saves on the night to keep the clean sheet, fighting off Chivas USA’s 14 attempts on goal. Ceus made his MLS debut on October 6 against San Jose, coming in for an injured Matt Pickens, and is expected to start for the Rapids again on Saturday against Houston Dynamo. Rivero and Hill lead Rapids over Chivas USA 2-0 The Colorado Rapids downed Chivas USA 2-0 on Saturday, Oct. 20 at The Home Depot Center in the Rapids’ final road match of the season thanks to first-half goals from Martín Rivero and Kamani Hill. Rivero scored his second goal of the season in the 16th minute, collecting a Jaime Castrillón flick off a Tyson Wahl cross before finishing from a tight angle. Hill finished his fourth of the 2012 campaign, his first season in MLS, just before halftime, perfectly placing a header off a great cross from Omar Cummings. Brian Mullan undergoes successful knee surgery Rapids midfielder Brian Mullan underwent successful surgery on his knee on Thursday, Oct. 18 and will miss the team’s final match of the season. The procedure, a scope of Mullan’s left knee, will cause the Aurora native to be out approximately 4-6 weeks while recovering. Mullan appeared in 28 regular season matches for the Rapids in 2012, starting 25, and scoring two goals and adding seven assists (second on the team behind Rivero). Moor and Larentowicz play 200th MLS games This season, both defender and captain Drew Moor and midfielder Jeff Larentowicz played their 200th regular season MLS match. Moor and Larentowicz began their careers in 2005, Moor with FC Dallas (then the Dallas Burn) and Larentowicz with the New England Revolution. Since joining the Rapids in 2009, Moor has played the full 90 minutes in all 101 matches he’s played for Colorado. He reached the 200 match mark on April 21 at home against Los Angeles. From 2010 to present, Larentowicz

has started all but one of his 89 games played for Colorado, reaching his 200th game on August 31 at Portland. Both players also played every minute of the playoffs run that led to the club’s 2010 MLS Cup Championship.

recovers from a head injury suffered early this season. Defender Anthony Wallace, who was recovering from a knee injury suffered in August of 2011, was set back another 6-9 months after tearing his Achilles during training on Sunday, March 4.

Matt Pickens closes memorable 2012 season Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens will miss the final match of the season after suffering a groin injury on Oct. 6, ending one of his best seasons of his career. Pickens’ streak of 75 consecutive regular season starts was the longest active streak in Major League Soccer, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, and is also the longest consecutive games-played streak in Rapids history.

All-Time Games Played The Colorado Rapids have three players in the top 20 list for all-time MLS regular season games played. Defender Tyrone Marshall is 4th with 337, captain Pablo Mastroeni sits at 8th with 318, and Brian Mullan has played 306 games, tied for 13th on the list with Cobi Jones. Marshall and Mastroeni are the only active players in the top 10 list.

Despite missing the Chivas match on Oct. 20 and this weekend’s game, he is currently third in the league in saves with 107. He earned his first Save of the Week honor for the 2012 season for his efforts in the August 31 match at the Portland Timbers. The save, a reaction stop on a deflected shot, was voted by fans as the best save in all the week’s MLS games, but was just one of a pair of stunning blocks the ‘keeper made in the match. Earlier this season, Pickens set the club mark for career shutouts, passing Marcus Hahnemann for wins in the Colorado record book on August 4. In the 1-0 Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup victory over Real Salt Lake, Pickens earned his 40th career win in a Rapids uniform. The goalkeeper has been stellar all season for the Rapids, and is currently tied with Andy Gruenebaum of Columbus Crew for the lead in saves with 83. On July 7, Pickens became the 13th player in franchise history to play 100 matches for the club. Injury Update Forward Conor Casey is listed as probable with knee soreness that has been bothering him since Sept. 23. Matt Pickens and Brian Mullan have been listed as out due to a groin and knee surgery (respectively). Rapids forward Edu is listed as out after suffering a right foot contusion in the match against Real Salt Lake on July 21.

The Dynamo clinched a place in the MLS Cup playoffs with a 3‐1 win over Philadelphia on Saturday, but their seed for the postseason is undetermined. Houston could enter the playoffs as the 3, 4, or 5 seed depending on the results of the New York Red Bulls (currently 4th) and Chicago Fire (currently 3rd) in their games on Saturday. After Saturday’s playoff‐clinching win, the Dynamo completed a four‐game homestand on Tuesday with a 1‐1 draw against Olimpia of Honduras in Champions League play. With the result, the Dynamo won Group 3 and advance to the quarterfinals, set for March 2013.

DYNAMO NOTES 

_

Dynamo advance to Champions League quarterfinals: The Dynamo secured passage to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 1‐1 draw versus C.D. Olimpia of Honduras on Tuesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium. Andre Hainault’s second‐half header was the equalizer for the Dynamo (2‐0‐2), who won Group 3 with eight points to advance to the knockout stage, set for next March. It is Houston’s first trip to the CCL quarterfinals since 2009.

 Dynamo clinch playoff spot with 3‐1 win over Union: The Dynamo clinched a berth in the 2012 MLS Cup playoffs with a 3‐1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. Macoumba Kandji, Boniek Garcia and Brad Davis each scored for the Dynamo, who reach the playoffs for the sixth time in seven seasons in Houston. The win in the regular season home finale, in front of the ninth sellout crowd of the season, completed an undefeated home schedule for the Dynamo (see page 3 for more details). Houston went 11‐0‐6 at BBVA Compass Stadium to become the fourth team in Major League Soccer history to complete a home schedule without defeat. The victory also extended the club’s home unbeaten streak to 25 regular season games.

Playoff position: Houston is 14‐8‐11 (53 points) and remains in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with one regular season game remaining. The Dynamo’s seed in the playoffs will be determined on Saturday, when the club plays its final regular season game at the Colorado Rapids. The Dynamo could enter the playoffs as the 3, 4 or 5 seed, depending on the results of the New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire in their games on Saturday.

Dynamo set franchise points record: With the 3‐1 win over Philadelphia on Saturday, the Dynamo set a new mark for points in a season, 53, surpassing the previous club record, 52, set in 2007. With a win Saturday over the Rapids, the Dynamo would also match their club record for wins in a season, 15, also set in 2007 (15‐8‐7).

Davis extends career‐high for goals: Midfielder Brad Davis extended his career‐high for goals in a season with his eighth goal of the campaign on Saturday vs. Philadelphia. Davis’ previous high for goals was six, set with Dallas in 2003.

Bruin nearing Ching’s season goals mark: Will Bruin scored his 12th goal of the season on Oct. 6 vs. Montreal. With his next goal, Bruin will tie Brian Ching, who set a franchise record with 13 goals in 2008. Bruin is one of only three players in team history to reach 10 goals, joining Ching (13 in 2008, 11 in 2006) and Dwayne De Rosario (11 in 2006).

Dynamo win MLS Reserve League Central/Mountain division title: The Dynamo captured the Major League Soccer Reserve League Central/Mountain division championship with a 2‐1 win over the Chicago Fire on Oct. 13. Cam Weaver scored both goals for the Dynamo and led the club in scoring with 11 goals in nine games. The Dynamo Reserves finish the season 6‐2‐2 (20 points), a point better than rival FC Dallas (6‐3‐1, 19 points) to capture the division crown. It is Houston’s second MLS Reserve League division title. The Dynamo won the division crown in 2008 with a 9‐1‐2 record.

Internationals return after Tuesday’s qualifiers: Four Dynamo players returned to training on Oct. 18 after playing in two World Cup qualifying matches on Oct. 12 and 16. Below are details of each player’s participation in the matches. PLAYER

He has 138 total appearances in all competitions, including 35 games in the Barclays English Premier League. Barnes also made 12 appearances for England’s U‐19 national team. The attacking midfielder joined Derby County of England in 2005 at age 17 and helped the Rams gain promotion to the English Premier League in 2007. Barnes scored ten goals in 84 appearances with Derby County and earned its Young Player of the Year award in 2007. The London native spent 2010‐11 with West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League and made 19 appearances for the Baggies. Barnes played the 2011‐12 season with Doncaster Rovers of the English Championship, the second tier of English soccer. The winger tallied one goal and four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions last season.

Ching is now tied for 11th on the all‐time MLS scoring list with Raul Diaz Arce. Ching’s next target is 88 goals, where Carlos Ruiz and Roy Lassiter sit tied for ninth on the league’s all‐time chart.

Boswell’s minutes streak ends: Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell played full time in 37 consecutive MLS matches (3,380 consecutive minutes, including playoffs) before exiting Houston’s 1‐0 win on Sept. 6 in the 74th minute with a stomach virus. The last time Boswell missed a minute of MLS action was Sept. 14, 2011 at Columbus. The center back was the only Dynamo field player to play every minute of every MLS game in 2012. Geoff Cameron holds the franchise record for consecutive full‐time games (40).

Ching sets new career‐high for games played: Dynamo forward Brian Ching set a new career‐high for regular season games played in a season on Sept. 2, with his 26th game of 2012. It is Ching’s 11th season in MLS, and the veteran twice recorded 25‐game seasons, in 2008 and 2004.

Ricardo Clark returns to Dynamo: Ricardo Clark made his return debut for the Dynamo on Aug. 10 at New York, appearing as a substitute for the final 15 minutes. The Dynamo completed the signing of the free agent midfielder on Aug. 8. Since leaving the Dynamo at the end of the 2009 season, Clark played for Eintracht Frankfurt of the German second division through February, when he was loaned to Stabæk Fotball of the Norwegian first division. A cornerstone of Houston’s 2006 and 2007 championship teams, Clark, a member of the 2006 MLS Best XI, scored 7 goals in 97 games played for the Dynamo between 2006 and 2009. Additionally, Clark has been capped 34 times by the U.S. Men’s National Team, including two starts in the 2010 World Cup.

Cameron receives U.K. visa to complete transfer to Stoke City: Former Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron was granted a United Kingdom visa on Aug. 8, completing his transfer to English Premier League club Stoke City. Cameron, 27, made 116 regular season appearances for the club in five seasons, scoring 11 goals with 15 assists. The Attleboro, Mass. native played various roles in central midfield and center back for the Dynamo and was named an MLS All‐Star in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Cameron also won Houston’s Golden Boot in 2011 with five goals and five assists in a career‐high 33 games.

Carr sets career high with fourth goal: Calen Carr set a career high with his fourth goal of the season on Aug. 3 All four goals were scored in a four‐game span, including two versus Kansas City on July 18. Carr scored 3 goals in 2010 and 2007.

Three’s Company (shutouts): After going over three years without three consecutive shutouts, the Dynamo recorded three clean sheets in a row twice in a seven‐game span in July and August. Houston kept its third straight clean sheet on Aug. 3 versus New York after recording three in a row to begin July. Before the run of six clean sheets in seven games, the last time Houston recorded three straight was May 30 – June 10, 2009.

Davis, Cameron named All‐Stars: Midfielder Brad Davis and former Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron were named to the inactive roster for the 2012 MLS All‐Star Game. The Dynamo pair were among a group of 13 players named All‐Stars that did not compete in MLS’ 3‐2 win against Chelsea FC on July 25. The 13 inactive All‐Stars were voted on by the players. It is the fourth straight year that Davis is an All‐Star, and his fifth selection overall.

He is the first Dynamo player with a pair of three‐game scoring streaks in the same season, and just the second player to record two streaks overall (Ching). His last streak marked the sixth time a Dynamo player has scored in three consecutive games (Bruin 2012 (twice); Ching 2006, 2008; Joseph Ngwenya 2007; Stuart Holden 2009). No Dynamo player has ever scored in four consecutive games.

Hall sets goalkeeper consecutive starts record: Tally Hall set a franchise record for consecutive regular season starts by a goalkeeper with his 47th consecutive start against FC Dallas on June 16. He broke the record of 46 set by Pat Onstad, from Sept. 13, 2008 – May 13, 2010. Hall started all 34 games in 2011 and the first 33 games in 2012, pushing the active record to 66 games. Hall also has the longest active streak MLS goalkeepers.

• BBVA Compass Stadium opener: The Dynamo opened the 13th soccer‐specific stadium in Major League Soccer on May 12. On a gorgeous, 82‐degree day in front of a sell‐out crowd of 22,039, the Dynamo honored past legends, including Wade Barrett, Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson and Craig Waibel in a pregame ceremony that included the unveiling of 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup championship banners. Brad Davis provided a signature opening moment, delivering a beautiful, curling 30‐ yard strike for the game‐winning goal in the 67th minute.
