Unable to hold out for a victory in the season finale, the Fire will still play host to a playoff game for the first time since 2009. The last postseason match at Toyota Park? A loss in a penalty shootout to eventual champion Real Salt Lake in the 2009 Eastern final. “It is disappointing. It stinks, especially because we had an opportunity to win this game and we’ve had opportunities to clinch it,” midfielder Patrick Nyarko said. “But I always have that belief that, no matter where you start from, if you play well, you can win an MLS championship. It’s just one extra game.” ... The Fire have not lost to the Dynamo in two seasons, winning their last meeting this year after two draws. “I want a week to prepare for sure, it would be a lot better than a quick turnaround like this," said Fire coach Frank Klopas. "The good thing is that we are at home and don’t have to travel. We have to get ready to play a very good team. They are a very different team to the one we played today." ... Since a four-game winning streak from Sept. 2-22, the Fire have gone just 1-3-1. They've also posted a loss and a draw in their last two games in Bridgeview, since a six-game home winning streak fromm July 14-Sept. 22. ... After six games out of the lineup with a calf injury, Pavel Pardo was able to return for the final league match and played 90 minutes. ... Making his 12th consecutive start, Sherjill MacDonald collected his fourth assist in the finale. MacDonald has been involved in each of the Fire's last three goals. "I’m still positive; we have another game this week," MacDonald said. "There’s no point in being negative, we earned a draw even though we had enough chances to put it away but we have to move on and look forward the next game." ... The last time the Fire were in the playoffs, only Chris Rolfe and Logan Pause were in the starting lineup. Patrick Nyarko came on as a substitute. “I’m treating this like any other game,” rookie center back Austin Berry said. “If you start thinking about it being a playoff game, you put more unnecessary pressure on yourself. Obviously there’s a lot more on the line but I’m not preparing any differently. I’m looking forward to playing and just being myself.” A year ago, the Houston Dynamo traveled to Kansas City for the winner-take-all Eastern Conference Championship. They recorded a 2-0 victory, springing them into MLS Cup 2011. “I think we’re in a similar position as we were last year,” said Brad Davis. “We knew last year was going to be hard road to get where we did, but we got there. Maybe if we didn’t have that last year, you’d go in having a few questions but to know in the back of our minds this is kind of the same steps that we had to go through last year, we have that experience and confidence to know we can do this.” ... Already knowing they were headed into the knockout match before kickoff, Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear rang in the changes for the season finale in Colorado. Goalkeeper Tyler Deric made his first league start, and Nathan Sturgis, Alex Dixon and Giles Barnes made their first starts in a long time. "When the game is over win, lose, or draw, you look forward to Wednesday," said Kinnear. "There's nothing we could do tonight to improve our position or make it worse. We gave ourselves a chance to be in the playoffs, and now Wednesday is a very important night for us." ... The Dynamo were held without a goal for the first time since Aug. 10, a 2-0 loss at New York. They come into the knockout round match not having won on the road since a 2-0 win at Toronto FC on July 28. “We have guys who’ve been there and we believe in our team mentality and believe in what we’re doing,” said Davis. “The playoffs come down to everybody fighting for one another, stepping up that intensity a little bit and we know this is a team that’s able to that when our backs are against the wall. That’s when we start to flourish.” ... Ricardo Clark, signed by the Dynamo at midseason, returns to the team with the third-most playoff starts among active Dynamo players. “Everybody knows how good Rico is and I think he has had a seamless fit back in this group,” said Davis. “He is obviously a great player with great experience. He has been to MLS Cup a couple times with this group so he knows what to expect.”

The match was stopped for the first time in the 13th minute by referee Geoff Gamble because of lightning and thunder. The game was halted for 70 minutes before it resumed. In the 24th minute, the Dynamo broke through. Brian Ching peeled off the backline and sprung Will Bruin on a through ball that split the Fire center backs, and the second-year striker coolly beat goalkeeper Sean Johnson inside the right post. Just three minutes later, the Fire found an equalizer. After Patrick Nyarko was taken down at the top of the box, a Pavel Pardo direct kick deflected off of the back of Logan Pause, curled over goalkeeper Tally Hall, hit the underside of the crossbar and down over the line. After 20 minutes in the second half, which included no shots on target, another bolt of lightning was sighted and Gamble pulled the players off the field for a final time. Under MLS rules, a match abandoned after the second half has kicked off is considered official.

The teams combined for just three shots on target for the evening. Chicago’s Marco Pappa tested Tally Hall in the 12th minute with a left-footed strike from outside that box -- the only chance the Dynamo 'keeper had to deal with. Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson made two saves on the evening, both in the final 45 minutes, greatly threatened by neither.

The Fire took the lead before the first minute was out. Patrick Nyarko intercepted Andre Hainault’s pass across the middle in his own half, then raced 40 yards in alone on goal before poking his shot past ‘keeper Tally Hall. The Fire capitalized on another midfield takeaway in the 19th minute. Alvaro Fernandez took possession and found Sherjill MacDonald at the edge of the box. His attempted shot deflected off a defender and right into the path of Daniel Paladini, who slotted his shot home from inside the area. The Dynamo pulled a goal back in the 90th minute. Brad Davis found Brian Ching on a corner kick, and the veteran sent a header that deflected off a Fire defender and through the reach of goalkeeper Will Johnson. But the home side put the game out of reach in stoppage time when Fire playmaker Alex hammered a blast from distance that ricocheted in off the inside of the right post.

In the second leg of the season series, the Fire and Dynamo battled to a 0-0 draw at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas on July 3, while in the series finale, the Fire got first half goals from Patrick Nyarko and Daniel Paladini before a late strike from Alex gave the side a 3-1 victory at Toyota Park Sept. 2. Head coach Dominic Kinnear employed a reserve-laden squad for their final match of the 2012 Regular Season. On Tuesday, Oct. 23 the Dynamo drew 1-1 with Olimpia, propelling the Dynamo into the quarterfinal stage of the CONCACAF Champions League. The Dynamo won Group 3 but finished as the seventh overall seed and will play Mexican club Santos Laguna in March 2013. They Dynamo have reached the MLS Cup Finals three times in their history. In 2006, the club’s first season since moving the organization to Houston from San Jose, the Dynamo reached the MLS Cup Final where they defeated the New England Revolution 4-2 on penalty kicks after ending regulation 1-1. The next season, the Dynamo won their second straight MLS Cup trophy when they again defeated the New England Revolution, becoming only the second team in MLS history to win back-to-back championships. The Dynamo reached their third MLS Cup in 2011 where they fell 1-0 to the Los Angeles Galaxy. CHICAGO FIRE PLAYOFF HISTORY The Fire hold an all-time 21-15-6 record in 42 previous postseason matches and are 6-3-2 all-time in their first match of the MLS Cup playoffs. The Fire have participated in the playoffs 11 times in their history, reaching the MLS Cup Final in 1998, 2000 and 2003. Here is a look at how the Fire have fared in the postseason: 1998: In their first season of existence, the Fire defeated the Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference Semifinals and the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Western Conference Final en route to the MLS Cup, where the team faced two-time defending champions D.C. United. Two first half goals from Jerzy Podbrozny and Diego Gutierrez led the Fire to a 2-0 victory and the first MLS Cup Championship in team history Oct. 25, 1998 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. 1999: The Men in Red faced rival Dallas Burn in the Western Conference Semifinals. After falling behind 2-1 on the road in Game 1, four different Fire players tallied to push the best-to-five points series into game three. Unfortunately the Fire fell 3-2 in Dallas as the Men in Red lost their first-ever playoff series. 2000: In just their third season, the Fire were headed to their second MLS Cup. After dispatching the New England Revolution in the MLS Cup Quarterfinals and the New York/New Jersey MetroStars in the MLS Cup Semifinals, the Fire took on regional rivals Kansas City Wizards. The Fire controlled the play but a goal by Kansas City’s Miklos Molnar in the 11th minute stood to give the Wizards the 2000 title Oct. 15, 2000 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. 2001: The Central Conference Champion Chicago Fire took on the Dallas Burn in the MLS Cup Quarterfinals. The Men in Red easily dispatched their Brimstone Cup rivals with two wins and a draw to take the three game series. Next up for the Fire was the Los Angeles Galaxy. After drawing the first match, the Galaxy used two overtime goals in the second and third games to take the series, ending the Fire’s season. 2002: After narrowly qualifying for the playoffs with the sixth seed, the Fire took on the New England Revolution for the first round of the playoffs. After tying up the series with a win at home in the second leg, the Fire traveled to New England for the third and final match of the series. The Revolution rode a 12th minute strike from Brian Kamler to a 2-0 victory, knocking the Fire out of the MLS Cup 2002 race. 2003: With the Supporter’s Shield in their back pocket, the Men in Red returned to their third MLS Cup in six seasons courtesy of a Golden Goal by Chris Armas in the 101th minute of the Eastern Conference Final against the New England Revolution. United, the Fire played to a 0-0 draw, becoming the first team to hold the opposition without a shot on goal in MLS postseason history. In the return leg, the Fire offense exploded to a 4-0 win, led by an Ivan Guerrero brace. Gonzalo Segares’ equalizer in second half stoppage time was ruled offside as the Fire fell 1-0 to the New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Final. 2006: For the second year in a row, the Fire were knocked out of chase by the New England Revolution. The Revolution were able to overcome a two-goal deficit and won 2-4 in penalty kicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinal. 2007: After dispatching D.C. United in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series, the Men in Red once again would face the New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Final. Taylor Twellman produced the game’s lone goal in the 38th minute as the Fire’s season once again ended at the hands of the Revolution. 2008: After three consecutive seasons where the Fire’s season was cut short by the New England Revolution, the Men in Red were finally able to break the curse. After a scoreless draw in the first leg, the Fire defeated the Revs 3-0 to advance to the Conference Final, where they would meet the Columbus Crew. Brian McBride opened scoring for the Men in Red but fell to the eventual champions by a final score of 2-1. 2009: The Fire once again faced the New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series. After falling 2-1 in the first leg of the series, a late strike by Cuauhtémoc Blanco pushed the Fire through to the Eastern Conference Final, where the Fire faced Real Salt Lake. After 120 minutes of scoreless play, the Fire fell 5-4 in penalty kicks to the eventual MLS Cup Champions. 2010: For just the second time in team history, the Fire failed to make the playoffs for just the second time in team history. 2011: A 3-0 victory at Real Salt Lake Sept. 28 and the improbable “Capitol Comeback” where the Fire scored two stoppage time goals to give the Fire a 2-1 victory over D.C. United kept the Fire’s playoff hopes alive but it wasn’t meant to be as results around the league would not favor the Fire. Despite missing the playoffs for just the third time in 14 seasons, the Fire finished with a record of 7-2-1 in the final 10 matches of the season. CHICAGO FIRE – HOUSTON DYNAMO CONNECTIONS Former Fire forward Calen Carr returns to Chicago and Dominic Oduro will face his former side in Wednesday evening’s clash. The two players swapped teams in a trade that took place March 23, 2011. Carr, the Fire’s first round selection in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, spent five seasons with the Fire making 82 MLS Regular Season appearances, scoring nine goals and adding three assists along the way. Since the trade, Oduro has appeared in 66 MLS Regular Season matches while scoring 18 goals and adding 5 assists for the Men in Red. Oduro became an instant fan favorite and was named last season’s Fire Most Valuable Player, Section 8 Chicago Supporters Player of the Year and a finalist for MLS Comeback Player of the Year. Fire midfielder Wells Thompson and Dynamo forward Macoumba Kandji were teammates during the 2010 and 2011 seasons with the Colorado Rapids, winning the 2010 MLS Cup, defeating FC Dallas 2-1 after Kandji’s shot in extra time was deflected in for an own goal. Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark spent five seasons with the Colorado Rapids where he teamed up with both Thompson (2010) and Fire defender Dan Gargan (2006 -2007). Three sets of college teammates will face each other on Wednesday evening. Fire defender Jalil Anibaba transferred to the University of North Carolina for his senior season where Anibaba and Dynamo midfielder Alex Dixon led UNC to the 2010 NCAA College Cup semifinals. The Fire’s rookie defender Hunter Jumper and Dynamo midfielder Brian Ownby were teammates for four years at the University of Virginia where they led the Cavaliers to the 2009 NCAA Men’s College Cup Championship. Rookie of the year front-runner Austin Berry and Dynamo forward Colin Rolfe teamed up for four years at the University of Louisville from 2008-2011, leading the Cardinals to the 2010 NCAA Men’s College Cup where they fell 1-0 to the University of Akron. CHICAGO FIRE ANNOUNCE 2012 TEAM AWARD WINNERS The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced its annual team awards, as selected by media, Saturday prior to kickoff of the Chicago Fire – D.C. United match at Toyota Park naming forward Chris Rolfe Most Valuable Player and defender Arne Friedrich Defender of the Year. Since returning to the Fire from Danish Superliga side Aalborg BK in April, Rolfe’s eight goals also earned him the club’s Golden Boot award. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER/GOLDEN BOOT: Chris Rolfe was named the 2012 Chicago Fire Most Valuable Player which is voted on by media. Rolfe was reacquired by the Fire on April 16, 2012 after three seasons with Danish Superliga side Aalborg BK. In 22 games with the Men in Red, Rolfe has also earned the club’s Golden Boot for his eight goals and three assists. The Kettering, Ohio native has two multi-goal games this season with braces in a 3-1 victory against the Philadelphia Union Aug. 12 and a 2-1 victory against the Columbus Crew Sept. 22. This marks the first time Rolfe has been named Team MVP and third time he’s taken the club’s Golden Boot, having previously won the award in 2005 and 2009. DEFENDER OF THE YEAR: Arne Friedrich was named Fire Defender of the Year, as selected by media members. Having joined the club just prior to the 2012 season, the two-time German World Cup veteran has commanded a solid Fire defense. The center back featured in 23 games for the Men in Red, keeping opponents to 41 goals in 34 games. vs. Houston Dynamo – 10/31/12 CHICAGO FIRE DRAW D.C. UNITED 1-1 The Chicago Fire (17-11-6; 57 points) received an early marker from Patrick Nyarko but D.C. United (17-10-7; 58 points) equalized just after the break and held off a late barrage to take a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Toyota Park. With the result, the Fire finish the regular season fourth in the Eastern Conference. The Fire would get the goal they needed 15 minutes later. Defender Gonzalo Segares began the play with a forward ball that Sherjill MacDonald dummied for Patrick Nyarko. The Ghanaian attacker flicked the ball to MacDonald in stride before receiving it back from the Dutchman and firing a scorching blast that beat the outstretched Hamid to the right post to give the Fire a 1-0 lead. The hosts nearly went ahead 2-0 four minutes later when Nyarko picked off Chris Pontius’ pass at midfield and strolled forward before playing a quick ball for Chris Rolfe. The 2012 Chicago Fire MVP saw he had numbers on United’s defense and slid the ball left for MacDonald who saw his right-footed effort saved well off the line by Hamid. The Fire’s advantage wouldn’t last long after the half however when Pontius played a ball on the left for Boskovic who held up and crossed to the near post finding Pajoy who his header over Johnson’s reach and inside the back post in the 50th minute. th United came close to taking the lead in the 59 minute when Najar circled through midfield before playing a quick combination with DeLeon on the right. The D.C. rookie chipped the Honduran international in alone up the right but Najar chopped his effort wide of Johnson’s goal.

With United needing only a draw to secure second place, the Fire began to push forward after the hour mark. Again it was Nyarko collecting the ball on the right before seeing his deflected shot fall for Segares at the top of the area. The Costa Rican international flicked forward for MacDonald whose one-time effort was thwarted once again by the onrushing Hamid in the 63rd minute. Three minutes later, Segares played a forward ball for MacDonald again. This time the Dutch international maneuvered past D.C.’s Brandon McDonald before centering for Rolfe. The veteran Fire striker then laid a soft pass back for Alvaro Fernandez but the Uruguayan international put his first-timer wide right in the 66th minute. D.C. nearly took the lead again in the 70th minute when Pontius was chipped into the box on the left before hitting a quick shot that Johnson turned away with a reaction save. On the rebound Segares’ attempted clear hit Pajoy and the ball deflected towards the back post but Johnson was quick to make the save. th The pair would link up again in the 76 minute when MacDonald beat his mark down the left and whipped in a heavy, low cross for Oduro at the six but the Fire striker pushed his first-time effort over goal.

Into the 85th minute, Hamid would come up huge again when Pavel Pardo’s swinging 35-yard free kick picked out the diving head of Anibaba but the second year Fire defender’s effort was held once again by the United backstop. The Fire would find three more opportunities in stoppage time. nd First in the 92 minute as Segares’ forward ball was healed ahead by MacDonald and eventually chased down at the end line by substitute Guillermo Franco. The veteran forward held up and pushed it back for Segares who quickly crossed for MacDonald but saw his first-time shot go over the bar.

Seconds later, MacDonald would be played back in towards the end line before cutting back and hitting a sharp-angled shot towards the near post that Hamid dove to save. Segares dug out the rebound and put it back across where Oduro’s heeled effort came off the post before falling for Anibaba who saw his first-time shot saved off the line by DeLeon. Deep into stoppage time, substitute midfielder Alex received a forward ball into space from Pardo and unleashed a blistering effort that forced Hamid to push the ball over the bar for a corner kick. On the ensuing take, Pardo found Franco at the near post but his header glanced high over the net, ending the match at 1-1.

DYNAMO AND FIRE MEET IN MLS CUP PLAYOFFS KNOCKOUT ROUND The Houston Dynamo (14‐9‐11/53 points/#5 seed) will meet the Chicago Fire (17‐11‐6/57 points/#4 seed) in the Knockout Round of the MLS Cup playoffs on Wednesday night at Toyota Park. The winner of Wednesday’s game will advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals, to face Sporting Kansas City in a two‐leg series. The Dynamo concluded the regular season with a 2‐0 road loss against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. The Fire drew 1‐1 with D.C. United on Saturday to slip into fourth place in the final Eastern Conference standings. Wednesday is the first‐ever postseason game between the Dynamo and the Fire.

Houston vs. Chicago Houston is 6‐4‐5 in regular season meetings with the Fire. The clubs met three times in 2012, with two ending in draws before the Fire earned a win in the final regular season meeting. The Dynamo and Fire drew 1‐1 on April 15 in a game that ended in the 66th minute due to a lightning storm near Toyota Park. Will Bruin scored for the Dynamo before Chicago equalized on a deflected goal off Logan Pause. The clubs drew 0‐0 in their second meeting this year, July 3 in Houston. The Fire secured a 3‐1 home win on Sept. 2, with goals from Patrick Nyarko, Daniel Paladini and Alex, while Brian Ching scored a late goal for Houston.

Dynamo out to defend Eastern Conference crown: Despite being the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, the Dynamo will try and defend their 2011 Eastern Conference title. A year ago, the Dynamo earned two important road wins – 2‐1 at Philadelphia on Oct. 30 and 2‐0 at Sporting Kansas City on Nov. 6 in the Eastern Conference final – to capture their third conference championship in six years. The Dynamo have excelled in the postseason over the years, posting a 9‐5‐3 all‐time record in the playoffs (counting 2006 MLS Cup final penalty kick victory as a tie).



Dynamo enter playoffs with lowest‐ever seed: The Dynamo are the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the lowest seed in club history, despite setting a franchise record with 53 points this season. Houston has been the 1 or 2 seed in each of its five previous trips to the playoffs. Dynamo seed history: 2011, #2 seed; 2009, #2; 2008, #1; 2007, #2; 2006, #2.



Late playoff heroics: Of Houston’s 22 all‐time playoff goals, a remarkable 15 have been scored after the 60th minute, including four overtime goals. Three of those were scored by forward Brian Ching, with a tying header in the 2006 MLS Cup final and game‐winners in the second leg of Western Conference semifinals in 2007 and 2009. Ching ranks second among active players with eight playoff goals, trailing only Landon Donovan (20).



Mainstays: Midfielder Brad Davis has appeared in 16 of the Dynamo’s 17 playoff games in franchise history, starting 15. The 2011 MLS Cup final is the only playoff game Davis has missed. Forward Brian Ching has started 16, but missed the 2007 MLS Cup final due to injury.



Possession: The Dynamo won the possession battle in 27 of 34 games this season. The Dynamo had less possession, 47 percent, on Saturday at Colorado, but had 57% possession against Philadelphia on Oct. 20, 56% against Montreal, 66% against New England, 54% against Philadelphia on Sept. 23, lost the possession battle to Sporting Kansas City (59‐41%) and Real Salt Lake (58‐42%) but have mostly controlled possession. Houston had 67% against Chicago on Sept. 2, 58% against Toronto on Aug. 22, 65% against Columbus, 55% at New York on Aug. 10, 52% vs. New York on Aug. 3, 60% at Toronto, 58% vs. Montreal, a season‐high 71% against Kansas City on July 18 and 67% vs. D.C. United. Houston lost the possession battle to Sporting KC on July 7, 50.2%‐49.8%, had 61% vs. Chicago on July 3, 55% vs. Philadelphia, had less, 53‐47%, at Montreal, had 63% vs. Toronto, 54% against FC Dallas, 54% at Vancouver, 60% vs. LA, 62% at New England, 60% vs. Portland, 56% vs. D.C., 53% at New York, 54% at D.C., a 49‐51% disadvantage at Columbus, 55% at Chicago, 56% at Seattle, a disadvantage (48‐52%) at San Jose, and 53% at Chivas USA.



Dynamo set franchise points record: With the 3‐1 win over Philadelphia on Oct. 20, the Dynamo set a new mark for points in a season, 53, surpassing the previous club record, 52, set in 2007.



Dynamo advance to Champions League quarterfinals: The Dynamo secured passage to the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 1‐1 draw versus C.D. Olimpia of Honduras on Oct. 23 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Andre Hainault’s second‐half header was the equalizer for the Dynamo (2‐0‐2), who won Group 3 with eight points to advance to the knockout stage, set for next March. It is Houston’s first trip to the CCL quarterfinals since 2009.



Dynamo clinch playoff spot with 3‐1 win over Union: The Dynamo clinched a berth in the 2012 MLS Cup playoffs with a 3‐1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Oct. 20 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Macoumba Kandji, Boniek Garcia and Brad Davis each scored for the Dynamo, who reach the playoffs for the sixth time in seven seasons in Houston. The win in the regular season home finale, in front of the ninth sellout crowd of the season, completed an undefeated home schedule for the Dynamo (see page 4 for more details). Houston went 11‐0‐6 at BBVA Compass Stadium to become the fourth team in Major League Soccer history to complete a home schedule without defeat. The victory also extended the club’s home unbeaten streak to 25 regular season games.



Bruin finishes one shy of Ching’s season goals mark: Will Bruin scored his 12th goal of the season on Oct. 6 vs. Montreal and finished the season one goal shy of Brian Ching’s franchise record of 13 goals in 2008. Bruin is one of only three players in team history to reach 10 goals, joining Ching (13 in 2008, 11 in 2006) and Dwayne De Rosario (11 in 2006).



Davis sets career‐high for goals: Midfielder Brad Davis extended his career‐high for goals in a season with his eighth goal of the campaign on Oct. 20 vs. Philadelphia. Davis’ previous high for goals was six, set with Dallas in 2003.



Dynamo win MLS Reserve League Central/Mountain division title: The Dynamo captured the Major League Soccer Reserve League Central/Mountain division championship with a 2‐1 win over the Chicago Fire on Oct. 13. Cam Weaver scored both goals for the Dynamo and led the club in scoring with 11 goals in nine games. The Dynamo Reserves finish the season 6‐2‐2 (20 points), a point better than rival FC Dallas (6‐3‐1, 19 points) to capture the division crown. It is Houston’s second MLS Reserve League division title. The Dynamo won the division crown in 2008 with a 9‐1‐2 record.



Garcia, Taylor, Watson advance to final round of World Cup qualifying: Three Dynamo players – Boniek Garcia, Jermaine Taylor and Je‐Vaughn Watson – helped their counties reach the final round of World Cup qualifying with results on Oct. 12 and 16. Honduras (Garcia) and Jamaica (Taylor and Watson) join the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama to form the six‐nation Hexagonal round, which begins next February and concludes next October. The top three nations will advance to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the fourth place country will stage a playoff against the winner of the Oceania confederation.



Boniek García continues strong start: Boniek Garcia scored his fourth goal with the Dynamo in the 3‐1 win over Philadelphia on Oct. 20. The Dynamo went 9‐4‐6 in MLS play since the Honduran midfielder’s debut on June 30 (record includes 1‐0 win over Real Salt Lake when Garcia missed game for international duty and 2‐0 defeat at Colorado on Saturday in which Garcia did not play). Garcia has four goals and six assists and has played 90 minutes in each of his 17 games. Houston has outscored its opponents 27‐16 in the 17 matches Garcia has played. Despite not playing in the first 15 games of the season, Garcia had the second most assists on the club, six. The 28‐year‐old Designated Player signed with Houston on June 7 after playing for Honduran powerhouse C.D. Olimpia since 2003. The midfielder debuted for the Honduras national team in 2005 and has 73 appearances for his country, including five appearances in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.



Hall breaks former mentor Pat Onstad’s shutout record: Goalkeeper Tally Hall recorded his 12th shutout of the season on Sept. 29 against New England. With the clean sheet, Hall passed former teammate Pat Onstad, who set an individual franchise record with 11 shutouts in 2007, when the club had a total of 13 clean sheets in 30 regular season games. Hall finished tied for second in the league in shutouts, trailing only Jimmy Nielsen of Sporting Kansas City (15).



Boswell sets career‐high for games in a season: Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell played in his 31st regular season game of the season on Sept. 29 vs. New England, surpassing his previous career‐high for games in a season of 30, set in 2006. The 29‐ year‐old has been a mainstay since his 2005 rookie season, appearing in at least 23 games and making 22 starts or more each season. Boswell has averaged 28 games and 27.63 starts per season in his eight‐year career. Boswell started on Oct. 20 versus Philadelphia for his 225th career regular season game.



Brad Davis, Midfield Maestro: Midfielder Brad Davis recorded his 12th assist of the season on Sept. 29 vs. New England. It is the fourth consecutive season the all‐star midfielder recorded 12 or more assists in a season. Davis had 16 assists in 2011 (career‐high) and 12 assists in 2010 and 2009. Davis finished with the fifth most assists in the league, trailing leader Graham Zusi (15) of Sporting Kansas City.



Davis continues to climb MLS all‐time assist chart: Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis recorded his 92nd career regular season assist on Sept. 29 vs. New England to pass Cobi Jones for seventh on the MLS all‐time assist chart. Davis is now nine assists behind the next man on the chart, Marco Etcheverry, who is sixth with 101 assists. Dynamo assistant coach Steve Ralston is the all‐time leader, with 135 assists.



Kinnear passes Nicol on MLS all‐time wins chart: With the 2‐0 win over New England on Sept. 29, Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear passed Steve Nicol on the all‐time Major League Soccer wins chart. Kinnear has 114 wins in nine seasons as head coach between Houston and San Jose and is tied for fourth on the all‐time wins list.

Dynamo newcomer Giles Barnes makes debut at Kansas City: Midfielder Giles Barnes made his Dynamo debut on Sept. 14 at Kansas City. Barnes, 24, entered as a substitute for the final nine minutes of the 1‐1 draw. Barnes joins Houston with eight years of experience in the upper levels of English soccer. He has 138 total appearances in all competitions, including 35 games in the Barclays English Premier League. Barnes also made 12 appearances for England’s U‐19 national team. The attacking midfielder joined Derby County of England in 2005 at age 17 and helped the Rams gain promotion to the English Premier League in 2007. Barnes scored ten goals in 84 appearances with Derby County and earned its Young Player of the Year award in 2007. The London native spent 2010‐11 with West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League and made 19 appearances for the Baggies. Barnes played the 2011‐12 season with Doncaster Rovers of the English Championship, the second tier of English soccer. The winger tallied one goal and four assists in 36 appearances in all competitions last season.



Ching ties Diaz Arce for 11th on MLS all‐time goal list: Dynamo forward Brian Ching scored his 82nd career MLS regular season goal on Sept. 2 at Chicago. Ching is now tied for 11th on the all‐time MLS scoring list with Raul Diaz Arce. Ching’s next target is 88 goals, where Carlos Ruiz and Roy Lassiter sit tied for ninth on the league’s all‐time chart.



Boswell’s minutes streak ends: Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell played full time in 37 consecutive MLS matches (3,380 consecutive minutes, including playoffs) before exiting Houston’s 1‐0 win on Sept. 6 in the 74th minute with a stomach virus. The last time Boswell missed a minute of MLS action was Sept. 14, 2011 at Columbus. The center back was the only Dynamo field player to play every minute of every MLS game in 2012. Geoff Cameron holds the franchise record for consecutive full‐time games (40).



Ching sets new career‐high for games played: Dynamo forward Brian Ching set a new career‐high for regular season games played in a season on Sept. 2, with his 26th game of 2012. It is Ching’s 11th season in MLS, and the veteran twice recorded 25‐game seasons, in 2008 and 2004.



Ricardo Clark returns to Dynamo: Ricardo Clark made his return debut for the Dynamo on Aug. 10 at New York, appearing as a substitute for the final 15 minutes. The Dynamo completed the signing of the free agent midfielder on Aug. 8. Since leaving the Dynamo at the end of the 2009 season, Clark played for Eintracht Frankfurt of the German second division through February, when he was loaned to Stabæk Fotball of the Norwegian first division. A cornerstone of Houston’s 2006 and 2007 championship teams, Clark, a member of the 2006 MLS Best XI, scored 7 goals in 97 games played for the Dynamo between 2006 and 2009. Additionally, Clark has been capped 34 times by the U.S. Men’s National Team, including two starts in the 2010 World Cup.



Cameron receives U.K. visa to complete transfer to Stoke City: Former Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron was granted a United Kingdom visa on Aug. 8, completing his transfer to English Premier League club Stoke City. Cameron, 27, made 116 regular season appearances for the club in five seasons, scoring 11 goals with 15 assists. The Attleboro, Mass. native played various roles in central midfield and center back for the Dynamo and was named an MLS All‐Star in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Cameron also won Houston’s Golden Boot in 2011 with five goals and five assists in a career‐high 33 games.



Carr sets career high with fourth goal: Calen Carr set a career high with his fourth goal of the season on Aug. 3 All four goals were scored in a four‐game span, including two versus Kansas City on July 18. Carr scored 3 goals in 2010 and 2007.



Three’s Company (shutouts): After going over three years without three consecutive shutouts, the Dynamo recorded three clean sheets in a row twice in a seven‐game span in July and August. Houston kept its third straight clean sheet on Aug. 3 versus New York after recording three in a row to begin July. Before the run of six clean sheets in seven games, the last time Houston recorded three straight was May 30 – June 10, 2009.



Davis, Cameron named All‐Stars: Midfielder Brad Davis and former Dynamo defender Geoff Cameron were named to the inactive roster for the 2012 MLS All‐Star Game. The Dynamo pair were among a group of 13 players named All‐Stars that did not compete in MLS’ 3‐2 win against Chelsea FC on July 25. The 13 inactive All‐Stars were voted on by the players. It is the fourth straight year that Davis is an All‐Star, and his fifth selection overall.



Three in a row for Bruin: Will Bruin scored in three consecutive games (6/16, 6/20, 6/23) for the second time this season (4/15, 4/21, 4/28), with four goals in each three‐game scoring streak. He is the first Dynamo player with a pair of three‐game scoring streaks in the same season, and just the second player to record two streaks overall (Ching). His last streak marked the sixth time a Dynamo player has scored in three consecutive games (Bruin 2012 (twice); Ching 2006, 2008; Joseph Ngwenya 2007; Stuart Holden 2009). No Dynamo player has ever scored in four consecutive games.



Hall sets goalkeeper consecutive starts record: Tally Hall set a franchise record for consecutive regular season starts by a goalkeeper with his 47th consecutive start against FC Dallas on June 16. He broke the record of 46 set by Pat Onstad, from Sept. 13, 2008 – May 13, 2010. Hall started all 34 games in 2011 and the first 33 games in 2012, pushing the active record to 67 games, before the streak was snapped on Saturday at Colorado.

• BBVA Compass Stadium opener: The Dynamo opened the 13th soccer‐specific stadium in Major League Soccer on May 12. On a gorgeous, 82‐degree day in front of a sell‐out crowd of 22,039, the Dynamo honored past legends, including Wade Barrett, Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson and Craig Waibel in a pregame ceremony that included the unveiling of 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup championship banners. Brad Davis provided a signature opening moment, delivering a beautiful, curling 30‐ yard strike for the game‐winning goal in the 67th minute.
