British Registered Cars MOT in Spain
The technical inspection certicate for a vehicle is only valid when issued in the country of registration, in the case of this vehcile, the MOT certificate issued in the UK. If your MOT has expired, you must make arrangements for the vehicle to be transported back to the UK. for a test to be carried out because from the moment the MOT expires you ae not able to drive the vehcile on Spanish roads. Many people have reported taking their foreign registered cars to the ITV station and having an inspection carried out and certified, so how is this possible? Well, the simple answer is this. You may take any vehicle to an ITV station and the inspectors will indeed conduct a test and issue a report. However, if you look closely at the top of the report it states that it is a “voluntary inspection”. In other words, it has no legal standing in Spain. So you may of course take your British registered car to an ITV station assuming your MOT is valid when you drive there and you will be inspected at your request, but this ITV certificate does not in any way replace the requirement for the vehcile to return to the UK in order for it to be subject to your mandatory MOT inspection.
Permitted Alcohol Limits
Most people often do not realise that the maximum permitted alcohol limit in Spain is considerably lower than many other European countries, including the UK. In Spain the maximum legally permitted alcohol limit is generally 0.25mg/l or 0.15mg/l if you are a learner or professional driver. If the amount exceeds this limit the driver will be heavily fined and lose several points frrom their licence. If in the event of being breathalized the amount should exceed 0.60mg/l, the driver becomes subject to a criminal proceeding and will be arrested. The Fines: Professional / novice drivers - 0.15 - 0.30mg/l = 500€ + 4 points. From 0.30mg/l = 1000€ + 6 points Other drivers - 0.25 - 0.50mg/l = 500€ + 4 points. From 0.50mg/l = 1000€ + 6 points A blood test is only available when you have finished the alcohol test and you disagree with the results. Refusal to co-operate is also considered a criminal offence
On Your Mobile Whilst Driving
Using your mobile phone when driving also carries a fine, even if you are holding it on “speaker”, you are still holding and using your phone. It is also not permitted to wear any kind of headphones or headsets, including the popular single-ear Bluetooth. The police communicate by Bluetooth headsets whilst they patrol on their motorbikes, but the difference is that these headsets are bulit into the helmet and do not go into the ear. This sort of integral device is permitted but no other, the fine is 200€ and the loss of 3 points. The reason for this is distractions are one of the main contributing factors to road collisions and whilst using your mobile and driving your attention is distracted from the most important function, driving your car

Advance CarTechnology Although the basic principles of car mechanics have not been changed for decades, new technology implemented in modern vehicles has made all the difference. Compared to the cars from the late ’90s, today’s vehicles are robots on wheels capable of protecting their passengers better, applying brakes by themselves and even recognizing drivers’ intentions. But that doesn’t mean the evolution has reached its peak. In fact, new technology is introduced daily, and in the next 3 editions we are going to tell you about 15 advances in the car industry that will certainly change the way we drive in just a couple of years from now. This is the follow up from last month, these are the next 5 so get ready, because the future is here. Body Panels From Advanced Materials Hood made from metal is so 20th century, and manufacturers have been experimenting with various new materials based on carbon fiber for quite a while. The goal is to have body panels as light as possible, but also strong and durable. There are rumors that some companies will produce body panels with memory which, in case of a crash, will straighten itself back to its original shape after being treated with chemicals or electricity. There are ideas of removable multipurpose body panels so you can turn your car from a family sedan into a minivan or even a roadster.
In-car Internet Despite the fact that full wi-fi internet access in your car is still not available, car manufacturers are introducing ways to connect to the web over your phone’s SIM cards, with your car acting as a hotspot. The main problems are quality of connection in remote areas and bandwidth. The concept of in-car internet is not only for passengers’ entertainment or work, but for the car, which would download important information as well as maps, weather or traffic updates.
Laser LED Lights Some manufacturers, like Audi, have already introduced a new generation of laser LED headlights which combine energy efficient LED technology with laser precision and brightness. It is still a very expensive option on high-end models but regular Halogen or LED lights are no match for laser LED headlights. This new technology proved far superior in difficult conditions like fog or heavy rain, and there are no blind spots like on conventional headlights.
Small Engines But Big Power Downsizing is a hot trend in the car industry at the moment and there are a lot of new models with diminutive engines, but with nice power outputs. New technologies, advanced materials and turbocharging are helping fuel economy as well as keeping the emission levels down. We are sure that this will continue and it will affect the whole industry, not just in passenger cars but also trucks and buses. Gone are the days of powerful cars with big engines, now we will have even more power but from engines that are the size of a shoe box with a displacement of a tin can. Remote Shutdown In fact, this option already exists and it is being used by OnStar company. Basically, if you report your car stolen, the operator can shut it down immediately while locking the doors and capturing the thief inside. We can expect this to be widely used, lowering the number of car thefts, while also helping recover the stolen cars. With the advancements in communication and navigation systems, remote vehicle shutdown will be standard equipment on all future cars.

Alonso, 37, retired from F1 at the end of the season but won a rain-affected race alongside Renger van der Zande, Kamui Kobayashi and Jordan Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac. The 24-hour race at the Florida circuit was red flagged twice because of rain. "Just an amazing experience - perfect execution for the race," Alonso said. "We were competitive in everything - dry, wet, night, day." Alonso is the third F1 champion to win after Phil Hill and Mario Andretti. The Spaniard - who has also won at Le Mans - made his debut in the Daytona race last year, finishing in 38th position. He will try to join Britain's Graham Hill as the only racers to win the triple crown of the Monaco Grand Prix, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Indianapolis 500 when he competes in the latter for the second time in May. Most of the final eight hours of the 24-hour event was run under a yellow flag and racing was halted under red-flag conditions for the final two hours of the event. A result was finally declared after 23 hours and 50 minutes, with the Cadillac of Felipe Nasr in second and the Penske of Ricky Taylor in third

What to Do in a Flood When You’re in a Car One of the scariest scenarios drivers and passengers can experience is being trapped inside a car when flood suddenly covers the streets Just a bit of advice before we proceed on what to do in a flood: never underestimate shallow waters. Based on a certain natural hazard guideline released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency , six inches of water can already contribute to a steering failure , making it hard for you to control your car. Meanwhile, one foot of water can surprisingly make cars gradually float away. Lastly, two feet of water is enough to quickly sweep away vehicles – even big ones such as SUVs and pickup trucks.
BE VISIBLE No, we do not mean going to the roof of your car and wave your hands up in the air. You can stop ridiculous ideas such as this one by staying calm. The first thing you have to do is to make your car visible by turning on the hazard lights and the headlights. If you can already spot emergency personnel, you are so lucky. These modern heroes will surely notice the lights from your car and help you immediately. Wait for them to reach you.
DO NOT SECURE YOURSELF INSIDE
Ironically, you have to be 100% free from any constraint inside the car. We are specifically referring to your seat belt. Do not believe the notion that the seat belt would keep you safe when the vehicle starts floating away. After all, once the car floats, you are already in big trouble. As soon as you see water surrounding your car, stop the vehicle and release yourself from the seat belt immediately. Also, unlock all doors. If there are authorities nearby, they can easily open your car door and save you.
OPEN A WINDOW Now, let’s start thinking about worst-case scenarios. What if you are stranded in the middle of the flood without safety personnel around you? Before you even get to this point, it is always a good idea to stay indoors whenever it rains. However, when push comes to shove, lower one window but not in an abrupt way. Just do it slowly. As long as the car is not yet underwater, electric windows usually work even in a flood. Once you successfully lower the window, climb out straight away. Worse, there is a possibility that you cannot open the windows anymore, especially if they are electronic ones. So, you have to resort to car doors. Forget about the passenger compartment getting wet. That is the least of your worries in emergency situations. If you are too weak to open the car door, break a window. Make sure to bring a glass breaker with you at all times. It is hard to forcefully shatter a window inside a compact space if you use other tools. Just a heads-up, these tips are only applicable if the water is still at a low level. Of course, you may suffer from wounds when you climb over a shattered glass window. However, your number one priority is to keep breathing. Wounds are nothing compared to drowning. Unfortunately, car doors are impossible to open when the water level is already too high. Why? Two words: water pressure. You cannot open a car door if there is massive pressure outside. A solution is to equalize the pressure between the inner and outer part of the car. To achieve this, there is nothing left for you to do but wait for water to fill your car. Hold your breath once submersion is complete and open the door at once. That is why we told you to unbuckle your seat belt, unlock the doors, and avoid waiting for water to rise up unless the car is already submerged. As you can see, not only do you have to take driving lessons. Knowing how to swim is essential
