It’s hard to imagine, but cars as a mode of transportation have been around for almost 140 years. Cars came to be in the late 19th century. But the first cars were slow, funny vehicles with diminutive engines, yet big potential. Over the years, cars evolved from toys of the rich to an obligatory possession of the common man. The automobile shaped the world. It also changed the urban landscape and the vision of transport forever. Cars brought the freedom and ability to move fast and independently, influencing modern culture and the way of living. It’s easy to understand why the automobile is one of the most important inventions in the history of the world. However, it wasn’t until the 20th century that cars evolved into the advanced, modern machines drivers use today. To learn more about them, here is a list of the top 20 cars of the 20th century. They defined 100 years of automobiles between 1900 and 2000. Continuing from last months article with five more to follow next month. Datsun 240Z The Datsun 240Z was the first highly successful Japanese sports car on the American market. It is also a legend that’s still highly desirable, even today.The critics said it was a copy of several European designs, but nevertheless, the 240Z won the buyers, creating its own segment. Datsun introduced the 240Z to America in 1970, and it was a perfect car for the times. The muscle car craze was winding down because safety regulations were killing domestic performance cars.Over the years, Datsun improved the original model with bigger 2.6 and 2.8-liter engines and several restyles. The demand was always high, so when they discontinued this first series of Z cars in 1978, Datsun made over 300,000 examples. This makes it one of the most successful sports cars in history. BMW 02 Series “Neue Klasse” In the early ’60s, it looked like the end of the road for BMW. Their creditors and shareholders wanted them to close the factory and sell their assets because buyers didn’t find their products interesting. But, the famous German industrialist, Herbert Quandt, knew there was plenty of potential in BMW. Quandt also invested in a new lineup he called the Neue Klasse or New Class. He introduced the Neue Klasse in 1962 as a performance-oriented, affordable and cleverly designed sedan that put BMW back on their feet. This little car marked the rebirth of BMW as a brand. It also served as the definition of compact and sports-oriented driver’s sedan. It was a first modern BMW featuring powerful engines, precision steering and engaging handling, appealing to driving enthusiasts all over the world. Land Rover Defender Car enthusiasts tend to write off British cars as quirky, rust-prone and problematic, and some of them are like that. They built out of the need for a capable vehicle that the military could use, as well as for civilian purposes. Soon Land Rover started exporting Defenders all over the world, so millions of buyers found out how good it was. The production of the Defender stopped in 2016 after 68 years. Over the time, this model changed the design and the names, but it never changed the original concept and character. Amazingly, more than 70 percent of all Land Rovers are still on the road all over the planet. This fact says a lot about the quality of British cars. Ford F-Series Trucks Pickup trucks are the backbone of the global economy. This is especially true for small and medium-sized businesses who would be lost without a practical, usable way of transport. The Ford F-Series truck produced it in 13 generations, over 35 million vehicles and countless different variants. So the F-Series is the definitive U.S. pickup truck. Over the years it has evolved from a rugged workhorse into a lifestyle model. There is even a performance vehicle in the Lightning and Raptor versions. However, it is still the bestselling vehicles of all time and a true piece of Americana on four wheels. Toyota Corolla Despite the fact that Corolla was always an affordable economy car, it played a pivotal role in the rise of the Japanese car industry. Eventually, it became the bestselling car of all times. Toyota introduced the Corolla in 1966, selling more than 40 million of them. Toyota thoroughly redesigned the Corolla through 12 generations, producing various versions for different markets. But the essence of the Corolla has always stayed the same. It is a dependable, affordable and quality economy car for everybody.

THE MOTORSPORT MONTH Formula 1Spanish GP2019: Lewis Hamilton moved into the Formula 1 points lead after beating teammate Valtteri Bottas to win the Spanish Grand Prix, as Mercedes continued its perfect start to the season. Hamilton's victory ahead of Bottas clinched Mercedes' fifth one-two in a row and put Hamilton seven points clear of Bottas in the world championship. Max Verstappen earned a second podium of the season for Red Bull and Honda in third place, after Ferrari's challenge faded early and never recovered. Hamilton started second but crucially got ahead of poleman Bottas by winning a three-way duel into the first corner that also featured Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton and Vettel swarmed Bottas on the run to Turn 1, with Hamilton moving to the inside of his teammate and Vettel almost edging ahead of both on the outside. Vettel locked up his front right and ran deep into the corner, while Bottas backed out of it in the middle and ceded the lead to Hamilton. Bottas survived a big slide to hold second as Vettel rejoined the track having taken slightly to the run-off, which forced Vettel wide through the second corner. That blocked his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc and allowed Verstappen into third. As Hamilton streaked clear of Bottas into a commanding lead, Vettel fell further back in fourth as the flat spot he picked up at the first corner proved a "pain in the arse". He eventually let Leclerc into fourth on lap 12, and the top five held position for most of the grand prix. The major differences at this stage were Hamilton, Bottas and Leclerc committing to a one-stop strategy but Red Bull putting Verstappen on a two-stop and an early change of tyres for Vettel giving him a second stop to make as well.
Hamilton, Bottas and Leclerc all took the option to make a safe second pitstop under the safety car, which dropped Leclerc behind both Verstappen and Vettel again. It took until lap 54 for racing to resume, with Hamilton keeping Bottas behind at the restart with ease and going on to win by four seconds.
Hamilton resisted more than 60 laps of pressure from Verstappen to hold on to victory despite having to manage softer tyres than his pursuers. As Verstappen was not able to get past the Mercedes and edge clear – despite a late dive at the chicane two laps from the end – he fell from second to fourth at the flag because of a five-second time penalty. Verstappen picked that up for an unsafe release in the pits that had got him ahead of the second Mercedes of Bottas, who he made light contact with and forced into the wall. Verstappen fell behind both Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari and Bottas, who completed the podium despite needing to make a second pitstop under the safety car after his brush with the wall caused a puncture. Poleman Hamilton retained his advantage at the start ahead of Bottas, despite Verstappen having a look inside Bottas the Ste Devote on the first lap. The leaders held station for the opening stint, which was cut short by a safety car after Charles Leclerc – who started 15th following Ferrari's qualifying blunder – littered the track with debris from a dramatic puncture. Leclerc hit the inside wall at Rascasse and half-spun after trying to pass Nico Hulkenberg for 11th. He tried to continue but picked up a puncture and scattered a large amount of debris as the rubber fell apart around the rest of the lap. Mercedes opted to pit both its cars under the caution and Bottas dropped back behind Hamilton under the safety to try to give enough of a gap to avoid losing time. When they stopped, Verstappen was released just as Bottas was coming past, and though Verstappen was a nose ahead a small amount of contact forced Bottas to kiss the wall on the right-hand side. The incident damaged Bottas's wheel rim and caused a slow puncture, but with the safety car still deployed he only dropped behind Vettel to fourth – and eventually Verstappen was awarded a five-second penalty for the unsafe release. Once the race resumed, Verstappen hounded Hamilton for more than 60 laps, but only got close enough to start attacking the five-time world champion in the final 10. On lap 76 he lunged Hamilton, but Hamilton moved across. Verstappen locked up and they made minor wheel-to-wheel contact – Verstappen's right-front to Hamilton's left-rear – and Hamilton took to the escape road, but both continued without damage. Hamilton's win extended his championship lead over Bottas to 17 points, while Vettel and Bottas were slightly adrift but within five seconds, crucially enough to consign Verstappen to fourth. Verstappen's Red Bull teammate Pierre Gasly finished in fifth, his best result since his move to the senior team, and earned fastest lap after building enough of a gap to make a late, free pitstop for fresh tyres. Behind, Carlos Sainz earned his best result for McLaren in sixth place after opting not to pit under the early safety car.
Behind, Gasly attacked Leclerc for fifth place as the two Haas drivers made light contact into Turn 1. Gasly failed to pass Leclerc and then came under attack from Kevin Magnussen, who had got ahead of teammate Romain Grosjean by virtue of their minor collision, but just retained the place. Magnussen went on to finish seventh, although was fortunate to be in position to make the overtake on his teammate at the restart. Toro Rosso appeared not to have Kvyat's tyres ready which meant his stop was slow and held up the second car of Alex Albon, dropping him out of the points as he waited for his teammate's stop to end. Kvyat fell to 10th but made it back up to ninth by the finish as Grosjean's race worsened. After the contact with Magnussen, Grosjean came under attack from McLaren's Carlos Sainz and took to the Turn 1 run-off after a wheel-to-wheel hit. With Sainz then into ninth, Albon sniffed an opportunity to haul himself back into the points and put Grosjean under pressure in the final laps, but could not steal 10th. Monaco GP: Hamilton wins despite tyre drama. Lewis Hamilton survived late contact with Max Verstappen to win Formula 1's Monaco Grand Prix, as an incident in the pitlane with Valtteri Bottas ultimately cost the Dutch driver second place.

Jerez MotoGP:2019: Marquez wins, heartbreak for Quartararo. Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez dominated the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, becoming the first repeat winner of the 2019 campaign. Marquez grabbed the lead off the line and swiftly escaped from the chasing pack, his job made easier when rookie Fabio Quartararo – who had succeeded him as MotoGP's youngest-ever poleman on Sunday – retired out of second place with a mechanical issue. Having locked out the top two in qualifying, the Petronas Yamaha riders were immediately passed by Marquez off the line – and looked set to drop behind Andrea Dovizioso too, only for the Italian to be forced wide exiting Turn 1. This left Marquez leading Franco Morbidelli and teammate Quartararo, and while the Honda rider towed the Petronas pair along over the opening few laps, he soon began to make a break.
All of a sudden, the Spaniard was a second and a half clear, with Morbidelli's pace dropping dramatically behind him but the Italian still managing to keep Quartararo at bay. The Frenchman finally found a pay past on lap 11, overtaking Morbidelli as the latter ran wide into the recently-renamed Pedrosa corner. Unlike Morbidelli, Quartararo could still just about keep pace with Marquez, which allowed the Frenchman to hold a clear second place, only for his Yamaha to get stuck in gear on lap 14, ruling the rookie out of podium contention. By that point, Suzuki rider Alex Rins had charged through from ninth place, gaining three places right away before picking off Dovizioso and then Maverick Vinales to come up on Morbidelli. Just as Quartararo's bike expired, Rins found a way past Morbidelli for what was now second place – but by then Marquez was already almost four seconds clear. The win allowed Marquez to move into the lead of the championship, aided by Dovizioso finishing only fourth, the Ducati rider unable to find a way past Vinales and deny the Yamaha man his first podium of the season in the closing laps. Danilo Petrucci took fifth place behind teammate Dovizioso, recording his best result yet as a Ducati works rider after three consecutive 6th-place finishes. Valentino Rossi, who had started 13th, claimed sixth. Miller would later crash out from the race, colliding with the Aprilia of Aleix Espargaro – who went on to finish 11th – as they scrapped for position at the hairpin-like Turn 13. Morbidelli managed to arrest his slide down the order to finish seventh, ahead of LCR Honda pair Cal Crutchlow and Takaaki Nakagami. Honda wildcard Stefan Bradl made up the top 10, while Marquez's regular teammate Jorge Lorenzo could do no better than 12th. Le Mans MotoGP: Marquez wins after fighting off Ducatis. Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez eased to his third victory of the campaign at Le Mans, recording Honda's 300th win. Marquez, who had lined up on pole, fought off the Ducatis of Danilo Petrucci and Jack Miller early on before assuming full control of the race and cruising to his second successive Le Mans win. Marquez could not establish an immediate gap as Pramac privateer Miller quickly negated his breakaway, before lunging past the reigning champion on the fifth lap. But Marquez was back ahead two laps later, diving down the inside of Miller at the Dunlop chicane and successfully anticipating a La Chapelle counter-attack from the Aussie, who ran out wide and finally surrendered first place to the Honda man. Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso, who had slipped down to seventh at the start but fought back up the order, was shadowing Miller by that point, and moved past when Miller went wide at the La Musee left-hander. Yet Dovizioso, three seconds behind Marquez after he'd made the move on Miller, had no answer to the race leader's pace either, and was instead faced with a late challenge for second from Petrucci. Petrucci eventually finishing 0.158s behind Dovizioso to secure his first podium as a factory Ducati rider. Miller held on to fourth place, seeing off the Yamaha of Valentino Rossi in a late scrap for position. Rossi's teammate and practice pace-setter Maverick Vinales had dropped to as low as 14th early on, and made little progress before being taken out by rookie Pecco Bagnaia on the seventh lap. Bagnaia lost control of his Pramac-run Ducati at the sweeping Turn 12 right-hander and collected Vinales, who was launched off his Yamaha and into the gravel. KTM's Pol Espargaro muscled his way into the top five at the start, and eventually secured sixth place, recording the Austrian manufacturer's second-best MotoGP result thus far. Franco Morbidelli couldn't find a way past Espargaro and settled for seventh, while his Petronas Yamaha teammate Fabio Quartararo recovered from a poor start and a third-lap error to finish close behind in eighth. LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow was ninth, with Suzuki's Alex Rins managing no better than 10th and Marquez's teammate Jorge Lorenzo finishing right behind Rins despite having run the whole race within the top 10.

A PERRR-FECT MONTH forJAGUARS
The month of May turned out to be a busy month for the JEC-Costa Blanca region as two different events took place . The first being on the 15th with a get together for coffee at the restaurant Los Almendros in Torrellana ,prior to taking a group run to visit El Tendré an olive oil factory in Elche ,Where they took the factory tour to learn how olives straight from the trees were turned into oil That is exported world wide . Members purchased an array of different products that were produced from olives which also included skin care products ,then after leaving the factory they returned to the restaurant where 54 members and guests sat down to a four course meal for lunch . Number two event was held 18/19 when the club had an area at the classic car and motorcycle show in Alicante .This was solely organized by the club to promote the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club throughout the Costa Blanca region .by giving information about the club to any interested party ,while displaying a number of members cars that attracted lots of attention over the two day event. Taking a break as a Formula One driver had given him time to found Lauda Air in 1979, which he sold at a profit to Austrian Airlines in 2002. In 2004, he went on to create the profitable low-cost carrier Niki, selling it to Germany's Air Berlin in 2011. Lauda, who also ran private business jets, suffered catastrophe in aviation on May 26, 1991, when a Lauda Air Boeing 767 crashed in Thailand on its way from Bangkok to Vienna, killing all 223 people aboard. Recognisable by the trademark red cap which hid scars from his racing accident, Lauda never strayed far from Formula One. He worked as a television commentator, a consultant for Ferrari in the 1990s and was team principal at the short-lived Jaguar team in the early 2000s. In 2012, he became Mercedes' non-executive chairman. Lauda underwent an emergency lung transplant in a Vienna hospital in August 2 last year after contracting an infection in his lungs, which were still scarred and weakened by the effects of the 1976 accident. Years before that, Lauda received kidney transplants. When one failed, a second kidney was donated by his then-girlfriend Birgit Wetzinger, a former flight attendant, who he married in 2008. Formula One legend Niki Lauda, who died late on Monday 20th May at the age of 70.

The next season, in 1977, Lauda went on to win his second Formula One world championship with Ferrari. He quit Formula One at the end of 1979 to pursue his second passion, civil aviation. But he came back to the race circuit in 1982, this time with McLaren, with whom he won his last world champion title in 1984.

Lauda missed only two races that season and still had a three-point lead over Britain's James Hunt at the season-ending Japan Grand Prix. Lauda retired from the race after two laps in torrential rain saying it was unsafe to continue and Hunt went on to claim his only world title.

But six weeks after receiving last rites in his hospital bed, Lauda surprised the world of motorsport by taking part in the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Still in bandages after having suffered first- to third-degree burns over his face and hands, and having inhaled searing toxic fumes that damaged his lungs, he finished fourth.

Lauda had taken his maiden Formula One world championship for Ferrari the previous year and was leading the standings when on August 1, 1976, his car plunged off the track for never-explained reasons and burst into flames on the notorious 22.8-kilometre (14-mile) long Nuerburgring in Germany. He was trapped in the burning vehicle for almost a minute before being pulled out by other drivers who stopped to rescue him, risking their lives as their own fireproof racing suits were scorched by the intense heat.
