GHC Announces the New Global Health Security Roundtable: In response to increasing interest in our community about the U.S. government's Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and global health security overall, the GHC Global Health Security Roundtable will hold its first meeting in September (details TBA). This roundtable will meet regularly to coordinate information and ensure that GHC members optimize opportunities to be part of the dialogue around GHSA/GHS. Global Health Roundup 

Congratulations to GHC member the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington on winning the award for Outstanding Global Health Organization from the Washington Global Health Alliance for their meticulous and freely available measurements on global health issues.

The World Health Organization's Global TB Programme is seeking NGO and CSO participants for an online consultation to identify the critical challenges that need to be addressed at a workshop in Addis Ababa in November 2015. The survey is available in English, French, and Spanish. Note: Your organization does NOT need to specialize in TB or health to participate. . A new survey from the World Bank, Preparing for the Next Outbreak: Public Views on Global Infectious Diseases (June 2015), gives insight on how the public views global health priorities and preparedness. Among the notable results of the poll is that almost 80% of respondents "believe that investing in doctors, nurses, and clinics in poor and developing countries will help prevent epidemics from breaking out in their own countries." . A brief from The Kaiser Family Foundation shows the scope of the role NGOs play in the United States' response to global health issues. The brief looks at how funding is dispersed across NGOs, in which programmatic and geographic areas they are working, and where they are head-quartered. . GSK and GHC member Save the Children are partnering for the third annual Healthcare Innovation Award, which will go to organizations taking the most innovative steps to strengthen health systems. View the criteria for submitting a nominee. The deadline to nominate is Sept. 7, 2015.

 

Advocacy Update 

Reach Every Mother and Child Act Introduced in the Senate: This week Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Christopher Coons (D-DE) introduced the Reach Every Mother and Child Act of 2015 which will coordinate a U.S. government strategy to end preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths. This bipartisan legislation would scale up solutions we know work to save the lives of 15 million children and 600,000 women by 2020 and help to end preventable maternal and child deaths by 2035.
