(MAST) – Brand Identity Collateral Corporate Stationery Packaging

Portfolio

(MAST) – A self-directed project to produce the brand identity for an independent, mens fashion store that sells nautically themed clothing.

– The design direction was resolved initially through the development of a modern logotype with subtle nautical elements of sails and boat rigging in reference to the name.

– Alongside the custom logotype I have used Interstate Extra Light as the complientary typeface which is more ledgible when overlaid on the brand photography.

(MAST) – The logotype has been complimented by my own brand photography of sailing boats that has had a monotone effect applied using the single spot colour blue that runs throughout the identity.

– The resolutions include the naming, logotype, brand colours and typography which was applied to corporate stationery and initial packaging of a carrier bag and swing tickets.

(MARBLE) – A fictional brand identity brief for a concept restaurant, produced in collaboration with Naomi Farrar. The task was to decide on a theme, build the concept and resolve the project through a range of high-end print material.

– We decided on ‘black & white’ as the concept and named the restaurant ‘Marble’ - inspired by old black and white floor tiles. Custom lettering and an abstract icon were developed to form the core identity based on the properties of marble as a material; angular, curved, hard and smooth.

– The identity was applied to the menu & wine list followed by a company stationery set. The abstract icon was used across the range both as an em dash to help organise content as well as its angled and curved edges being incorporated into the different resolutions through die-cut corners.

– The black & white identity was extended into a range of house labelled products including still & sparkling water and red & white wine.

– Branding details were also applied to table place settings and extra print collateral of reciepts and bill holders were also produced for the concept restaurant.

– The custom lettering logotype was finally worked into initial exterior restaurant signage.

(HUE) – Exhibition Guides Exhibition Invitations Exhibition Tickets Identity Poster & Banners Signage

(HUE) – A self-initiated brief to produce the visual identity for a one-off exhibition based on the subject of colour. This identity then had to be applied to a range of mainly printed promotional material.

– Working with the name of the exhibition as ‘HUE’, the three letters in the name paired with three em dashes lent itself to a way of organising information and content,

– The element of three was then extended into sets of three colours for the printed material. No coloured ink was used in the identity, only black - which has allowed the vivid coloured stock to demand attention.

– The printed resolutions consisted of exhibition guides, tickets and opening night invitations. The identity was also developed into several promotional posters and banners as well as initial wayfinding signage.

(BOOK WORKS #2) – 10 x B5 books.

(BOOK WORKS #2) – A self-initiated brief to produce an edition of 10 books to sell at the Manchester Hotbed Press Book Fair. The subject of the books was to be a typeface and I selected Orator Std.

– The book was essentially an investigation into creative design for publication. The history of the typeface - which was designed for typewriters - led to a mechanical, evenlyspaced approach to the layout to give an honest, low-fi appeal.

(Leeds Urban Oasis) – Identity Map Signage/Stickers Travel Pass Twitter Page Typographic Posters

(Leeds Urban Oasis) – A brief to promote green spaces in and around the centre of Leeds to the city’s office workers.

– The core identity was established through a range of hand-drawn, typographic posters. A simple colourscheme of green, grey and black was used to indicate and reflect the green spaces and the urban environment.

– Printed deliverables include the set of promotional posters, a map, and a travel pass for commuting office workers. The resolutions were extended into a Twitter page and directional stickers/signage.
