OUGD303 — Brief 7 / End of Year Show Pitch The Brief — In collaboration with Hazel Gage, develop a concept to pitch for the right to design the branding and promotional material for the Leeds College of Art end of year show. Our idea for the end of year show is based around forms emerging from shadows to represent students leaving the college environment where we have been working away and are now ready to leave into the ‘real world’. We don’t intend the shadows to represent a negative mood but more that whilst studying we are essentially on the periphery of our chosen fields. The core idea is based around ‘low key’ photography (as shown on the bottom left of this page) where forms are picked out with delicate highlights. The subject of those photographs would be substituted by objects, products and processes relating to different course areas for our resolution. 1/3

OUGD303 — Brief 7 / End of Year Show Pitch Concept & Design Direction — The chosen typeface for the branding of the end of year show is Din – a clean and confident sans-serif. Treatments to the typeface would include obscuring parts of the letterforms and applying spot varnishes to mimick the shadows and highlights found in the photography. The colour-scheme is predominantly black but the photographs would be taken in full colour so there are still subtle hints of colour and the images wouldn’t appear to be flat. The name of ‘Manifest’ alluding to things/forms being created in the shadows before being released into the light. 2/3

OUGD303 — Brief 7 / End of Year Show Pitch Visualisation —

The images on this page are a rough representation of work from different courses within the college. Pieces of work and close-ups of processes would be used as the subject for the low key imagery. The shadowy/revealing theme will also be easily translated into formats for the printed deliverables with different materials and processes used to recreate the effect of the photography with different layers revealing different information etc. The predominant black colour-scheme would create great drama and very different to other degree shows where the design direction is often bright and colourful. The precise and high quality photography will be key in establishing a high end feel that gives a good indication of the standard of work that is produced within the institution. 3/3
