Create an appropriate identity that works with the varying islands that you choose to promote. Whether environmental, cultural, geographic, or a mixture – the theme(s) of the campaign are up to you depending on what information is uncovered through your research. Consider what audience would be interested and then how you could aim this at and how your message could be communicated through primarily print–based deliverables. 1/6

OUGD303 — Brief 4 / Unknown Islands Concept & Design Direction — The brief was themed around the saying ‘A drop in the ocean’ – in referenced to the small scale of the islands against the vastness of the World’s oceans. As a result, the overall design direction has been minimal and restrained, with a focus on the smaller details. The main colour palette consists of a stone-coloured book cloth, black and off-white through the catridge paper stock. The only colour to appear is through any photography that has been used. The core of the identity is focussed around a typographic logo of ‘A Drop In The Ocean’ written in Adobe Caslon Pro with alternate characters used. This logo also appears within a circular stamp design which has been applied throughout. 2/6

OUGD303 — Brief 4 / Unknown Islands Catalogue — The entire brief is centred around a seventy two-page island catalogue. The publication features five selected islands or island groups that I have chosen to promote. Each destination differs in terms of scale, climate and location in order to keep the content varied. The seperate destinations have individual chapters that feature a fact file, background profile, image gallery and infographics. All of the content including statistics, facts and images were personally sourced online and through altas’ and maps which was then edited and formatted. The aim was to create a catalogue that was classic, yet contemporary with the ‘drop’ theme continued from the title into the organisation of information with bullet points. The infographics were also based around simple black circles to create an underlining consistency. The book was printed onto heavy weight cartridge paper and traditionally case bound with the cover featuring a stone – coloured book cloth. 3/6

OUGD303 — Brief 4 / Unknown Islands Packaging — After the publication was produced I went about creating packaging that suitably reflected the content. Since black was used as endpapers in the book, I decided to use it for the box as it also created a great contrast agaist the stone book cloth on the publication once the packaging is opened. The box is tied with eyelet fastenings and card circles featuring the stamp design logo to add extra touches of quality to the finish. The publication was designed with the thought in mind that it would be ordered online and then posted out to the consumer. 4/6

OUGD303 — Brief 4 / Unknown Islands Print Collateral — When the publication is sent out to the consumer, they would obviously need to be addressed and so I have designed a stationery range for the company. The typography is clean and simple, inkeeping with the consistency of the publication, with a solid black printed on the reverse side of the letterhead and compliments slip to match the box packaging and publication endpapers. Book cloth from the catalogue cover was brought back in through being applied to one side of the company business cards. A set of five, passport-sized itinery booklets were also designed – one for each of the islands featured in the publication. They use a key image from one of the pages which is scaled to full bleed. The itineraries were also printed on heavy weight cartridge paper and bound by and hand stitch. 5/6

OUGD303 — Brief 4 / Unknown Islands Editioned Prints — After spending so long gathering quality content for the publication, I decided to create a range of editioned prints using some of the content that could be sent out with the catalogue as a sign of thanks for the consumer’s interest. I edited the maps and fact files from the publication to make the posters which feature reversed out text and map imagery on a black background. The prints were then packaged in string that is used on the box packaging and embellished with a book cloth label to finish. 6/6
