CEO ADDRESS W ith the first quarter of 2018 behind us, I want to

share with you some of the wonderful things we have accomplished at Florida Hospital North Pinellas this year. In this issue of The North Pinellas Heartbeat, you will learn about some of the changes we are making as a facility, based on your feedback. With new security measures being put into place, we hope you can feel more confident and secure here at the hospital. We have also been diligently working to repair or replace equipment in our facility, as needed. You will learn about a new emergency alert system that I encourage all of you to sign up for. This will allow us to keep you informed of emergent situations at the hospital via your personal cell phone. The new system will replace our current alert system, so be sure to update your contact information in eGuide as soon as possible. HOSPITAL UPDATES HOSPITAL SECURITY UPDATE YOU ASKED. WE LISTENED. After recent events, some of our staff has voiced concerns over safety and security at the hospital. The Administration team heard your concerns and will be implementing new security measures to help you feel safer at the hospital. This will include a security guard in the lobby and ER waiting area after hours, a new badge system which requires visitors to show their photo ID, and additional lighting and safety adjustments made outdoors. We anticipate these changes starting to take place during the month of May.

STOPLIGHT REPORTS The Leadership Team at FHNP has been rounding on every department each month to identify areas of improvement. Some of the updates we have made thus far include: • Purchasing additional wheelchairs • Adding staff members • Getting a new monitor for Cardiac Rehab • Purchasing a new pad for the procedure table in Cardiology • Redesign for Cardiology • Replacing the IV Pumps • Changing the landscaping at the front of the hospital • Replacing the trash cans outside the hospital • New microwaves • New pill cutters • Additional speakers to better hear call lights

• Hand-held O2 saturation monitors • CT and MR table sfety straps • New seat/back replacement for bariatric wheelchair • CT Table “slicker” • Cisco phones for nurses • New SCD tubing for PCU and ICU • CREATION Health huddles • Worked to change organization of areas to better work with staff • New curtains in 2nd floor PACU and ER • New flooring in ER triage area

We are continually trying to make improvements throughout the hospital, so please do not hesitate to bring your concerns or suggestions up to your leaders.

HOSPITAL EVENTS ASK THE ORTHO’S Florida Hospital North Pinellas held our first ever joint replacement seminar, Ask the Ortho’s, on March 13th. It was a great success with over 200 attendees who came to learn about joint replacement options from a variety of our Orthopedic Surgeons. From this event, we were able to refer patients to make appointments with these physician offices and, in turn, bring more surgical cases to the hospital. 3


EMPLOYEE UPDATES EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER RECOGNITION Julie Gomillion, RN (Med Surg/Ortho) is being recognized for the outstanding care she provided to my wife during her staff at FHNP. My wife has been in healthcare for nearly 30 years and said that she has never seen a Nurse be so compassionate and responsive to a patient’s needs, as Julie was. When my wife had pain, Julie was immediately on the phone, with the Doctor, developing a plan. When it was not time for more pain meds, my wife asked if she could take a hot shower. Julie immediately prepared the shower for her, dropping the shower head and soaking herself from head to toe! They had a good laugh, together! If my wife needed anything, Julie was there. No excuses and no delay My wife told me that Julie should teach a class on what it takes to be an outstanding Nurse and how to deliver exemplary patient care!

Jamal Davis (TCU) started his journey at FHNP over four years ago. Everyone that comes into contact with Jamal is greeted with a smile. He receives many comment cards from our patients and their families. Jamal is always requested by previous patients and their families to be seen by him again and again due to his personality and skills. He is a team player who always goes above and beyond to help the tech’s, nurses and other therapists. His time management, productivity and persuasive nature to patients to achieve their goals is amazing. Jamal plays a vital role along with his colleagues on TCU.

Annalyn Oppenheimer (Food Services) has become such a vital part of the daily operations in the Food Service Department, and she takes pride in what she does. Her food is always beautifully prepared, and always goes above and beyond to complete any tasks assigned to her. Annalyn never misses a day of work and loves her job, and the people she works with. Over the years she has taken many youth volunteers and trained them in the Food Service Department. She is a shining example to all of us daily of what CARE means. We fortunate to have Annalyn on our team.

Albert Ferree (Facilities/Maintenance) is being recognized for the exceptional help he provided to the Pharmacy Department. On Monday Feb 26, 2108 the primary pharmacy refrigerator failed to hold temperature. This refrigerator currently houses $97,000 in medications. I contacted Dan Greive Director of Facilities/Maintenance and explained to him our dilemma. In less than 5 minutes Albert was in the pharmacy working on the refrigerator. Albert had our refrigerator operational within three hours. We are fortunate to have Albert on our team at Florida Hospital North Pinellas.


EMPLOYEE WELLNESS Congratulations to everyone on an exceptional Walk to the Keys challenge competition this year. Of the 42 teams that completed this year’s challenge 38 reached the Keys and 25 exceeded 1 million steps! Just an outstanding effort by one and all and hopefully an enjoyable one. Congratulations to this year’s winning teams: 1st Place: Team Honey Badger (Jen Segur, Hollie Steele, and Tammy Monroe) - 2,646,422 steps 2nd Place: Sunny Bunnies (Betsy Messier, Dorothy Cotton, and Judy Stearns) - 1,720,677 steps 3rd Place: Phat Pharm (Kendall Morris, Christine McDonald, and Jen Grossman) - 1,458,337 steps

ANNUAL WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS: • Register in Human Resources between 03/26/18 and 04/02/18 • Attend “Weigh-In” Sessions • Bi-weekly in Human Resources (see attached schedule) • Disqualification will occur following two missed sessions • Email reminders will be sent at the beginning of each “Weigh” week • Attend one (1) Trail Walk event (schedule to be announced) • Attend one (1) Wellness Fair event (schedule to be announced) CHALLENGE ACHIEVEMENT REQUIREMENTS: • Lose 5% of your starting weight • A lesser alternate % may be substituted as recommended by your doctor or in consultation with our Employee Health Nurse, Emma Adkins.
