KUHN: NEW 12M MIN-TILL STUBBLE CULTIVATOR Kuhn has announced a new 12 metre model has been added to the popular Optimer range

I

tisthefirst12metre machine to feature KUHN’s unique STEADY CONTROL system which maintains a uniform working depth, even at higher speeds and on undulating land, regardless of soil conditions. Product specialist Edd Fanshawe explains: “STEADY CONTROL exerts equal pressure across the full 12 metre width of the machine. This means the discs all cut to an equal depth even when the ground is undulating because the OPTIMER compensates for ground contours by adjusting the ground pressure across themachine’sfivesections.” The 12-metre machine can also be run at up to 15

“With an OPTIMER XL operators can choose from a variety of models to suit tractors from 90 to 600 horsepower. All can improve the management of residue such as maize stalks, and green cover crops, and are availablewithfivediaerent roller options. On the smaller width machines, a KUHN SH 600 small seed drill with a 600-litre capacity hopper can be added. This enables stubble cultivation and cover crops or cereals to be sown in just one pass,” he concludes.

The OPTIMER has been continually updated and the XL range is now available in mounted and trailed models in working widths of 3 to 12 metres wide. All models feature independent 620mm diameter discs which can work at depths of 5 to 15 centimetres. Electronic driving control ensures high driving comfort and precision and increases the thrust on the machines. In addition, various travel modes are available. The top speed in the DL60-7 and DL65-7 is 30 km/h, whilst the DL80-7, DL85-7 and DL80TL-7 have a travel speed of 35 km/h. The hydrostatic transmission boosts acceleration performance and delivers smooth, shock-free operation in all situations. The brake pedal provides an inching function. With no pressure on the brake pedal, full power is available for the drive system. Light pressure on the brake pedal reduces travel speed, with more engine power for the working hydraulics. When full

An optional hand-throttle system can be used to set a (minimum)engineRPM.This function provides constant hydraulicpower(AUXline) to be used by the connected hydraulic attachment (hydraulicmotor). NOFENCE TO DISCUSS BENEFITS OF VIRTUAL FENCING TECHNOLOGY

NoFence to discuss benefits of virtual fencing technology when integrating livestock into arable systems at Groundswell

A

rable and livestock producers can speak to grazing experts and farmers about the opportunities available when utilising virtual fencing to integrate livestock into arable systems at Groundswell 2022, June 22-23, on the Nofence stand in Pasture Field F1. Farmers on the stand include organic beef farmer James Waight. Mr Waight has used Nofence for more than a year to graze 110 head of cattle on his farm on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire in a Site of Special ScientificInterest. A global leader in virtual fencing with more than three years of use on UK farms, Nofence uses a combination of GPS, cellular communication, audio signals, and solar power. Using the Nofence smartphone app, virtual fence perimeters can be created and monitored while working with animal behaviour. This allows livestock to graze within set perimeters with no physical fencing. “When an animal steps over a Nofence boundary, the collars emit an audio cue to warn it of the boundary perimeter. If the animal does not turn around upon hearing the predictable audio cue the collars issue an electric pulse. The collars also track animal location and are developed with solar panels to ensure long-lasting battery life throughout the grazing season,” says Synne Foss Budal, General Manager for Nofence UK. “With Nofence, we train the animals to

listen for their fence boundary. So, we are still relying on the animal’s senses to stay within the grazing parameter, but it is hearing rather than visual.” Opportunities for regenerative agriculture According to farm consultant James Daniel, Managing Director for Precision Grazing Ltd, Nofence virtual fencing technology is a game-changer for farmers and grazers looking to integrate livestock into arable systems.
