Kennels situated at 51 Cromer Road, Hainford, NR10 3AU (on A140) and are open from 10am until 2pm every day.

Note from the Editor Autumn has arrived again, the change of season means digging out coats, and finding warm blankets for our dogs. After coping with the heatwave very well, my two are now feeling the chilly nights. It’s been a period of change for us, and the dogs have been coping very well. We have recently moved into a temporary home for now, and will be moving into our new home once we have renovated it. We have found Jack and Bella seem to be happy wherever we are, and haven’t seemed to be too bothered with the change! We intoroduced a couple of new measures for Bella, as you may remember she likes to escape at any oportunity. She’s been a bit naughty over the summer, and as a result she now has a crate for the car - which she’s beginning to get used to. The other thing we bought is a GPS tracker for her, which she wears on her collar at all times except when it’s charging. We did a lot of research into trackers, and a friend reccomended a one called “Tractive” which links to an app on my phone. I can select to show her live position, the direction she is moving and at what speed. Luckily we’ve not had to rely on it yet, but it gives piece of mind. She did discover an escape route through the bushes in our temporary back garden, but we have some site fencing set up now to secure it! Bella wearing her Tractive tracker

For now, if anyone has photos or notes to post to me for the next newsletter, could you please send them via the kennels, and not to my old address. Please do keep sending me your news and photos, I can’t make the newsletter without all of you.

One bonus of our temporary place, we met two lovely Homefinders greyhounds the other day whilst out non our new walking route. Both Jack and Bella love greyhounds, so it was a great event for them.

Co-ordinator’s bit Well it’s officially autumn now and the evenings seem to be drawing in again, it seems to have been a very short summer this year with a great variation in temperatures. I hope your hounds coped with the very hot weeks we had. Mine certainly struggled even with fans going 24 hours a day and cool coats. Summer, as usual, has been a very busy one for us Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers we have attended events with the stall practically every weekend to promote greyhounds as pets and raise much needed funds. We’ve had varying success (and weather) but the reward is when people arrive, perhaps months later, and give one of our greyhounds a home. I have had great support from our newly formed Fund-Raising Committee enabling us to attend two events on the same day. If you feel you’d like to help at events next summer, please leave your name and contact number at the kennels. This summer we will have taken the stall out 25 times, so all offers are help are very welcome. The June Dog Show was very successful. Sandra Clayton, one of our trainers who’s also a very active volunteer, was the judge. The dogs all looked magnificent for the event and it was lovely to see so many of our rehomed dogs. The weather for the August Open Day was ideal and thankfully not as hot as last year. It was well attended, and everyone enjoyed the BBQ which one of our volunteers provide for us at the summer Open Days. Our next Open Day is on October 13th from 11-3 with our Auction at 12 midday. We have lots of greyhound memorabilia to auction including several prints of David French paintings of greyhounds. David was very famous for his artwork of racing greyhounds and recently died. We continue to collect at the Stadium on race nights and if anyone could help, even once a month, this would be a great help Looking forward to seeing you all at the Auction. We are now up in the 21st Century and have a card reading machine so no excuse for running out of money!

Hetty’s Helpers Hello, I hope you have all enjoyed the summer and got a lovely suntan just like me, well my nose was tanning nicely when Mr Grumpy called me in because it was too hot. I must introduce my new friend Rosie who has come to stay with us as her owners are poorly and have had to move to a place where they can’t keep her. Romeo is delighted, saying something about a harem whatever that is. Any way we all get on as we have known Rosie for a long time. We even look alike which has confused some people. I did get told off by Mr Grumpy though for showing Rosie how to eat her chew and I was only trying to help. One day I will get something right! Easyfundraising is doing so well, we have nearly reached £900 since starting and have 93 supporters. It would be nice to have 100 supporters so if you have not registered and you shop for anything online please help us by registering. You might even become our 100th supporter and get to give me a big hug….or should that be the other way round? A kennel sponsorship makes for a lovely present for someone. They get to know who is in the kennel they sponsor and can come along and give that dog a cuddle sometime and if I am there they can give me a cuddle as well. The latest way to help is to buy a lottery ticket for just £1 a week and you could win at least £60. It will probably be you as Mr Grumpy reckons everyone else wins except him! If you are interested get in touch with Phil Pearce at pusspearce58@yahoo.co.uk. Remember all funds raised go straight to my friends in the kennels to keep them happy while they wait to get a lovely home like mine….well without a Mr Grumpy hopefully!

A surprise donation We had a lovely surprise on 28 August when Dulcie Oglivie presented Corinne and Wallis (not forgetting Mamma) with a cheque for ÂŁ340. Dulcie had set up a Go Fund me page to raise some money for a Chihuahua that needed surgery. In the end the money was not needed but she and her donors kindly decided to give it to Homefinders instead.

Fundraising stickers I have been making these self adhesive vinyl stickers for fellow greyhound owners, passing the profits on to the kennels as well as supplying some for sale at open days. Originally I posted them on Facebook but unless I keep reposting they drop off the radar, so to speak. I thought a mention in the newsletter would stimulate some more interest and money for YGR. They cost £1.50 each plus postage, are available in black or white vinyl and come with full instructions for application to any greyhound transport such as car, caravan or motorhome. I currently have 13 different designs and can be contacted via e-mail at nigeldharvey@yahoo.co.uk or by Facebook Messanger for further info and ordering. Nigel Harvey

Letters to the editor Hi Michele, Here is my Hound Modric with one of his Girlfriends Lilly. Kind Regards Pamela

Dear Michele, Spice had a great day at the Royal Norfolk Show.....she behaved amazingly, didn’t win best dressed lady....but stole the show in other ways. She had so many admirers.... we couldn’t walk more than a few yards without someone remarking what a beautiful girl she is. Such a blessing to us....thank you Homefinders. Regards Guy Newstad

Dear Michele, Recently I have had to say goodbye to my beautiful boy Alfie (Sligo Too). He lived for thirteen years, Nine years with me and it was a privilege to share my life with hum. I will miss him so much. He was so gentle. Lovely with children and other dogs. Never chased squirrels in the park or took any notice of cats. One day he even gave a cat a kiss. He had two girlfriends. Misty a Westie and Martha a miniature Schnauzer. They loved him and are missing him. I will never forget him he was a very special boy. Carol Booth

Hi Michele Just thought I would send you a couple of photos of Sonny (was Mojo - Longwood Mojito) enjoying his summer holidays. Sonny LOVES his summer holidays, we have several trips away a year. – he always gets very excited when I start to pack the car – he lays on top of all of the packing to make sure I remember to take him. The silly boy! I always say to him, “when have I ever left you behind???? Never !!!” Christina - Sonnys mum xxx

Khloe

Garth

Beautiful Khloe is a spritely character, she loves to be out and gets very excited on her walks so can be lively on the lead. Friendly with everyone she meets, Khloe enjoys plenty of attention and is used to being around children too. Khloe will be a lovely pet once she settles to home life, she’d be able to live with a male greyhound but needs to continue socialising with smaller animals.

Garth is a true gent with his kind, quiet and loving nature. He walks beautifully on the lead, is great with children and well-mannered around other calm, polite dogs. Garth was homed for a year but wasn’t happy being left for long periods of time so he would suit a home with more company and even a female greyhound companion. Garth will be a super pet in a relaxed and quiet environment, he loves his home comforts and would be so happy to be part of a family again..

New website launched Many of you may have spotted the new look website launched last month. We needed to create a new site, as the system and server the old one was on was starting to fail and needed to be replaced. I built the original website around 8 years ago, so it was very old in technology terms. The new site has a more modern feel, and is mobile friendly too, so do check it out at www.yarmouth-greyhound-homefinders.co.uk the design, build and hosting of the site are all at no cost to Yarmouth Homefinders. I run my own business as a graphic and web designer, and Yarmouth Greyhound Homefinders is my chosen charity, it’s my way of supporting such a fantastic cause. All my design work is free of charge as my continued contribution to Homefinders, and I work hard to find the best print prices, which are passed on at cost. In the last few weeks, I have also produced a new leaflet which is already in use, as well as the Christmas cards, calendars and notecards (all mentioned on the back page.) All of these items are sold to raise vital funds. There are some very talented people who should also be thanked, Abbey who is a very tallended illustrator, Molly for her fantastic photographs Stephen for his help with the newsletter, and Jo who worked on the leaflet. Spotted My daughter Karan recently brought us this card of Joey when she was on holiday in New York. Many Thanks from Deirdre.

These two lovely greyhound statues are outside of a new vets practice close to home in Blackpool. I also spotted this statue while on holiday, it is outside of Pembroke Castle in South Wales. Sapphire loved her holiday there ans of course everyone she met loved and stroked her, (spoiled little girl of course). Love to all, Marrion and Saphhire
