Work will include a piece from the Crafts Council Collection by celebrated ceramicist Edmund de Waal, willow sculptures by Laura Ellen Bacon, vibrant 3D-printed ceramics by Adam Nathaniel Furman and a film of an entire cityscape made of wood and inspired by Grimms’ fairy tales by FleaFollyArchitects.

Dinosaurs died out 66 million years ago – or did they? Discover how large meat-eating dinosaurs evolved into modern birds, their nearest living relatives. We will examine feathers, claws, teeth, eggs and footprints in this exciting exhibition. You’ll never look at a magpie in the same way again. Based on an exhibition by Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, the exhibition is supplemented with loans from national and international lenders. Part of DinoFest 2015

This exhibition will see local artists create creatures from paper, card, plastic and textiles. The fragile nature of the materials used contrast with the popular view of dinosaurs as strong, powerful animals but also references their vulnerability to forces that ultimately led to their extinction. This family friendly exhibition will also feature the role of the collector including exhibits, both real and imagined, as well as lots of fun hands-on activities and fascinating facts about these amazing creatures.

Robin Ince Blooming Buzzing Confusion 8pm

£14

Is anyone a freethinker? In a fast follow up to In (and out of) His Mind, Robin Ince continues to prod into our brains with a sharpened pencil to try to work out just how much free will anyone can have. Looking at Milgram, McLuhan and experiments into the mind, Robin tries to work out if we can arm ourselves against mass media despots and live life pragmatically or will we always just be clumsy animals justifying each mistake with a well-honed alibi? Well, it will be something like that – basically, another night of shouting, gesticulating, gurning and enquiring – a curious mind and id on the rampage. Robin Ince has won the Sony Gold award, Chortle award and Time Out outstanding achievement award.

Matt is also the Public Engagement in Mathematics Fellow at Queen Mary University of London. He’s also part of the insanely popular Numberphile YouTube channel, also launched in 2011, which has a million subscribers and almost 100 million video views. Killer Girls’ Night In 7.30pm Another great line up of female crime and thriller writers. Cal Moriarty writes for film and theatre. The Killing of Bobbi Lomax is her debut novel, having graduated from the Faber Academy. An extraordinary mystery due out in early May, it tells the tale of conspiracy, local politics, intrigue and secrets in a one time sleepy, devout town. Alex Hourston is the author of In My House, an unsettling debut telling the story of an unlikely friendship between two very different women, where one inserts herself into the other’s lonely life. Published in early June and destined to be a hit. Recommended for readers of The Woman Upstairs and Notes on a Scandal. Rebecca Whitney is the author of the startling psychological thriller The Liar’s Chair with an unforgettable narrator haunting her own story. A tale of a toxic marriage and a woman in search of atonement. Another killer night guaranteed.

Alice’s Appetites Eating and Drinking in Wonderland 7.30pm

Her appetite, however, often gets her into trouble, causing her body to grow and shrink with alarming speed. Focusing on the ways in which her relationship to food and drink changes in the course of Carroll’s text, this talk will explore the cultural meanings surrounding Alice’s bodily transformations, relating them to Victorian anxieties about female consumption, dietary etiquette and unruly desire. Winchester School of Performing Arts Cabaret Group return for another evening of songs from your favourite musicals. This talented young group is made up the from senior students from the school, most of whom will go on to study musical theatre at colleges in London. Several ex-cabaret members are currently appearing in West End shows, and this current group have ambitions to join them! They promise you a great evening’s entertainment right here on your doorstop so book early to avoid disappointment.

We all know at least one thing that no-one else knows and this summer is your chance to share it as Slung Low invites you into The Knowledge Emporium to celebrate the knowledge that makes you unique. The Knowledge Emporium is an old-fashioned sweetshop in a converted 1960s airstream caravan. For one week only, it will be taking up residence outside Winchester Discovery Centre. The Emporium trades in sweets, the sort you remember as a kid, but it is a sweetshop with one big difference: it doesn’t take money. It trades only in knowledge, your knowledge – your stories, your recipes, anecdotes or facts for sweets. Throughout the week you’re invited to The Emporium to share your knowledge by entering it in The Big Book of Everything We Know. In return for your generosity, you can help yourself to some sweets. At the end of the week, as part of Hat Fair, The Emporium will move to the Great Hall where Slung Low will create readings from the material collected, celebrating the collective knowledge of the community. Catch it on Friday 3 July at 7pm, and Saturday 4 July at 2pm and 5pm. www.hants.gov.uk wdc www.hants.gov.uk/

Mud Morganfield 8pm

£15

Muddy Waters or Mud Morganfield? It’s almost impossible to tell. Of course, nothing would please Mud more than hearing people say he sounds just like his late father Muddy Waters on the track ‘Loco Motor’ from his new album Son of the Seventh Son. The eldest son of legendary bluesman, Mud was drawn to music at an early age. Blues fans were introduced to Mud at a tribute concert to his father in 2007, but his performance at the Chicago Blues Festival that same year brought him instant recognition. Mud composed most of the songs on his award-winning album Son of the Seventh Son, including ‘Blues In My Shoes’. He also performs the Muddy Waters tune, ‘You Can’t Lose What You Ain’t Never Had’. In 2014, Mud’s new album, For Pops, recorded in tribute to his late father, together with fabulous Thunderbirds frontman, Kim Wilson, sees him make a very personal statement about his roots. Mud’s travels now take him and his music worldwide, with appearances in the biggest festivals and venues, such as the legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and the Royal Albert Hall Blues Fest, and on to iconic TV shows such as Later… with Jools Holland.
