Around the market you will find many cafes to enjoy a well earned coffee. The town centre also has some excellent shops and, of course the magnificent medieval Cathedral - well worth a visit. Tuesday 25th Vikings at The British Museum This highly anticipated major exhibition has been developed with National Museum of Denmark and opens in March. Charting the extraordinary Viking expansion from the Scandinavian homelands to the Caspian Sea to the North Atlantic, and from the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean. The exhibition will capitalise on new research and thousands of recent discoveries by both archaeologists and metal-detectorists, to set the developments of the Viking Age in context. At the centre of the exhibition will be the surviving timbers of a 37-metre-long Viking warship, the longest ever found and never seen before in the UK. Due to its scale and fragility it would not have been possible to display this ship at the British Museum without the new facilities of the Sainsbury Exhibitions Gallery. Limited availability. Thursday 3rd Stonehenge - New Visitor Centre (EH) The new multi-million pound visitor centre, the first phase of the improved visitor experience of Stonehenge has been opened. This is the first time Stonehenge has had a proper place to tell its story, and visitors will be able to find out much more about this complex monument, distinguishing facts from theories. A 360-degree virtual, immersive experience will let visitors 'stand in the stones' before they enter a gallery featuring various displays and nearly 300 prehistoric artefacts. 211 steel columns support the gently undulating canopy, under which sit two "pods" which house the exhibition, education, café, and retail space. Apart from modern facilities, visitors can expect a stunning exhibition that will fascinate even those who have seen the Stones before. A section of the A344 has now been seeded over so a timed ticket visitor shuttle will transport you to the Stones where you can enjoy an informative audio guide. Price includes entrance. The fine 18th-century house has a renowned historical fashion collection, but it is the glorious landscaped garden surrounded by parkland which makes this property a gem. Beautiful all year round, the garden was created by John Veitch - with rhododendrons, magnolias and rare trees surrounded by rolling Devon countryside. One of the largest estates acquired by the Trust, Killerton was built in 1778-9, and was home to generations of Aclands, one of Devon's oldest families. Restaurant/tearoom on site. Tuesday 8th London - Greenwich The Cutty Sark & National Maritime Museum Great value day out to the superb attractions of Greenwich in South East London. Saturday 12th Houses of Parliament Tour Fascinating day out as we travel to Westminster for a guided 75 minute tour which includes the Commons and Lords Chambers, the Queen's Robing Room, the Royal Gallery and Westminster Hall. The tour takes in some of the most important areas of the Palace in which Parliament meets, and explains what Parliament is and does, what it has meant to different people at different times, and how it came to be what it is today. Most of the buildings seen on the tour were built in the mid 19th Century following a devastating fire, but the route also incorporates some of the earlier buildings, such as Westminster Hall. Leaving the hotel after breakfast we travel through southern France before entering Spain and arriving at our second overnight hotel in Lloret de Mar.
