Wednesday 19th The Vyne, Hampshire - National Trust ROUTE D The Vyne house is undergoing roof repair work. This means that the house is encased in scaffolding and that the upstairs is closed. However at the time of our visit there will be a unique opportunity to go up on a roof top walkway which will give you views of the estate and the work being carried out. The walkway is accessible via stairs and a lift and is suitable for everyone. The Vyne is a unique Tudor House situated in beautiful countryside just north of Basingstoke. Inside, the house is full of character and brimming with the history, artefacts and furnishing of its residence over the years. Originally built for Henry VIII’s Lord Chamberlain, the house retains its Tudor Chapel and many original features. After being collected from your home around 8.00am we travel to Preston for our overnight stay. Our overnight hotel is the Holiday Inn - choice of menu. Lovely day travelling today as we continue north. We shall have an extended stop for lunch in the centre of historic Sterling before arrving at the hotel mid/late afternoon. Wonderful excursion today as we head north up the Glenshee Glen in to The Cairngorms National Park. Stunning scenery as we travel through the mountains stopping in the famous village of Braemar before arriving at Balmoral Castle. We have included an audio handset tour which includes access to The Ballroom. Entrance included. Today we head to Glamis Castle. Famously the childhood home of the late Queen Mother Glamis is also the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth. Thursday 29th Horse Drawn Canal Boat & Marlborough ROUTE A Extended and improved for 2016. Step back in time with us, as we head first to one of our favourite stopping places, Marlborough. This archetypal English Market town has that 'film location' quality and is a great spot to stroll around and enjoy a nice lunch. In the afternoon we head to nearby Kintbury and board the 'Kennet Valley' horse drawn barge for a 2 ½ hour cruise along the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal. This wide beam passenger boat was purpose built for carrying passengers and is powered solely by the Parham House towing action of the horse making for a tranquil journey.
