UWSP offers over 120 undergraduate program

choices within 48 majors and 78 minors in four colleges: College of Fine Arts and Communication, College of Letters and Sciences, College of Natural Resources and College of Professional Studies. UWSP also offers 13 graduate programs including a doctorate in audiology with UW-Madison. -

At the heart of the UW-Stevens Point campus is the Dreyfus University Center. Its dining options, services and amenities make it a fixture of everyday campus life. Visitors and the area community enjoy the Dreyfus University Center as well, and the facility is site of numerous events and conferences for off-campus customers who take advantage of such an impressive facility located in the heart of Wisconsin.

UWSP has a tremendous impact on the Central

Wisconsin community, bringing in an estimated $378 million dollars to the area each year. It is estimated that $78 million is spent by students and another $25 million is spent by visitors to campus. -

UWSP boasts the nation’s 28th-ranked International

Program with over 21 percent of all bachelor’s degree recipients having studied abroad. -

UWSP’s campus is nearly 400 acres and has 35

buildings including 14 residence halls and the 275 acre Schmeeckle Nature Reserve that features a 24 acre lake, Lake Joanis.

The DeBot Center has undergone several renovations over the years and serves as one of the main dining facilities for students. Starting in the Spring of 2020, DeBot will provide a new and improved dining experience. The upper floor will feature an open concept kitchen and dining area while the lower floor will feature a combined kitchen, convenience store and bakery.


UWSP Bernie L. Patterson took over as Chancellor at UWStevens Point in July of 2010, becoming the 14th chancellor in the 120 year history of the university. Chancellor Patterson came to UWSP after serving as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Oklahoma City University since 2002.

MISSION STATEMENT

UW-Stevens Point shares in the mission of the University of Wisconsin System. The mission of this system is to develop human resources, to discover and disseminate knowledge, to extend knowledge and its application beyond the boundaries of its campuses, and to serve and stimulate society by developing in students heightened intellectual, cultural, and humane sensitivities; scientific, professional, and technological expertise; and a sense of purpose. Inherent in this broad mission are methods of instruction, research, extended education, and public service designed to educate people and improve the human condition. Basic to every purpose of the system is the search for truth.

UWSP residence halls have gone through two phases of renovations over the last several years. Residents enjoy the ease of access to kitchens, computer labs, and study rooms within their buildings. Its halls are clustered into three main areas which create a sense of community for its residents leading to an enjoyable living experience. At UWSP, there are more than 2,500 students majoring or minoring in biology, chemistry, or other related sciences. To accomodate these numbers, in the fall of 2018, UWSP opened its 176,500 square foot Chemistry Biology Building. Designed as a “science on display” learning experience, the building is equipped with 19 research labs, 39 teaching labs and five lecture halls.

The College of Natural Resources at UWSP is the nation’s largest and most premier undergraduate institution for natural resources and environmental management. The strength of its program lies in its emphasis in hands-on field experiences.

UWSP Pointers have developed a reputation as one of the most involved and connected student bodies in the Midwest. With over 180 active organizations open to any student, it’s easy to explore and experience community involvement.

Coaching Staff


Greg Breitbach Head Coach Second Season Breitbach enters his second season at the helm of the UWSP football team in 2019. In his first season, he led the Pointers to four wins, including a victory over then-No. 10 UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 27, one of two wins in the final three games of the season. He coached 10 All-WIAC players, including WIAC Special Teams Player of the Year, Christian Almonte. He was named head football coach on July 2, 2018 and came to UWSP after spending five seasons as head coach at Millersville University, a Division II program in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. In 2017, he led the Marauders to the highest win total in 10 years. His team also earned the most wins in the PSAC East since 2006. His Marauders’ offense generated the most points per game in 11 years. Upon arrival at MU, he produced the first 1,000-yard rusher in seven seasons. Prior to heading to Pennsylvania, Breitbach spent five seasons as the offensive coordinator at North Dakota and seven total years as a member of the UND staff. In 2012, his offense set the Big Sky Conference record with 660 yards of passing offense in a game against Montana. He led the UND offense to school records in single game total offense (770 yard vs. Montana), touchdown passes in a season (30) and single season passing offense (3,268 yards). In 2011, he helped North Dakota to its first DI conference championship. He spent three seasons here at UWSP as offensive coordinator for John

Miech. During his time in Stevens Point, the Pointers went 18-12 and reached a No. 12 national ranking in 2003. His offense averaged 415 yards and 30 points per game in his three seasons at UWSP. He coached seven first-team All-WIAC offensive players and an All-American. Breitbach also spent coaching stints at Lewis and Clark College, his alma mater, Montana Western, and Wolf Point High School in Montana. On the field, Breitbach was a quarterback for Montana Western in 1991 and 1992, captaining the team in 1992. He also played quarterback for two seasons at Dickinson State and was part of back-to-back NDCAC conference championships. A 1994 graduate of Montana Western, Breitbach also owns a master’s degree from Portland State. Breitbach and his wife, Kara, have three children, Alaina, Jenna and Trent.


Art Valero Assistant Head Coach (OL) First Season Valero enters his first season with the Pointers. He joins the staff bringing coaching at the NFL, CFL and NCAA FBS levels. He began his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he spent six years on the staff of Jon Gruden. He was the tight ends coach on the 2002 team that won Super Bowl XXXVII. In 2004, he moved to running backs coach and assistant head coach through 2007. He moved to the St. Louis Rams in 2008 for two seasons as an

assistant head coach working with the running backs and offensive line. He made stops with the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans as an offensive line coach before returning to the college ranks in 2013. He played for Boise State and won the NCAA I-AA national championship in 1980. He graduated from BSU with a degree in sociology in 1981.

Sean Dugan Defensive Coordinator second Season Dugan enters his second season as the defensive coordinator and focus on linebackers in 2019. He served as the defensive coordinator and focus on linebackers in 2018, his first season at UWSP. Prior to coming to UWSP, he was at Alvernia University working with linebackers for a stint following his playing days at Millersville University. Dugan started 38-straight

games over his four-year career with the Marauders from 2014-17. His senior season of 2017, he earned first-team all-conference honors and led the team in tackles, the second-most in the PSAC. He also earned All-Super Region I and honorable mention DII All-American laurels that season. He also led MU in tackles as a junior and earned second-team all-conference accolades.

Drake Voris Assistant Coach (DL) First Season Voris enters his first season with focus on teh defensive line. He comes the UWSP from Ohio State University, where he spent a year in the strength and conditioning department. Before that, he was the defensive line coach for two seasons at Capital University. He also worked as the sports performance coach while at Capital.

Additionally, Voris has experience coaching at the high school level spending the 2015 season at Teays Valley in Ohio. Voris played four seasons of football at Capital and earned his degree in health and fitness management there in 2013.


Tyler Spangler Assistant Coach (S) First Season Spangler enters his first season with the Pointers to focus on safeties. He joins the staff from Millersville, where he played safety and on special teams for the last four seasons.

In 33 career games for the Marauders, he had 17 tackles and had a fumble recovery. Spangler earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Millersville in May 2019.

BENNETT HANSEN Assistant Coach (OLB) Second Season Hansen enters his second season with the Pointers. He focused on outside linebackers in his first season at UWSP in 2018. He comes aboard from Amherst High

School where he helped the team earn four state titles. He coached on the varsity staff since 2010 and was head coach of the JV squad during that time as well.

Lionel Gates Assistant Coach (RB/FB) First Season Gates enters his first season with focus on running backs and full backs. He is a retired NFL player that has travelled the country as a motivational speaker and coach at football camps. He was a member of the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2005 through 2007. He played

four seasons at the University of Louisville and was the Cardinals’ leading rusher in 2003. In his four years, he scored 20 rushing touchdowns. Gates earned a degree in communication from Louisville.

victor Williams Assistant Coach (CB) First Season Williams enters his first season with a focus on coner backs. He returns to Wisconsin following time in Europe. He coached in Budapest, Hungary and at a Level-Up

Football Camp in Vienna, Austria. He also coached football at Pacelli from 2016 through 2018.
