he Salvation Army Family Store in Wanaka is here to sell good quality donated items such as furniture, bric-a-brac, clothing, jewellery, books etc.

The proceeds raised by sales, are used in providing support to the community of Wanaka. It may be by way of helping a family in part funding a school trip, which the children may have otherwise not been able to attend, clothing, helping first time parents with clothing and baby equipment.

At the time of the Christchurch earthquakes, goods were sent through to Christchurch. The list is endless but due to confidentiality of those helped; the work that The Salvation Army does usually goes unseen.

A number of instances of damage were reported last week and experts suspect Ruby The Red Back and Terry The Tarantula are to blame. The spiders have covered a wide area and evidence of their misbehaviour has been found from Hedditch Street to Rata Street and even at the public toilets on the lake front.

Rather than staying in one place, many spiders prefer a roaming way of life, creeping around town, usually in search of food.

Leaping from place to place they can cover impressive distances.

Experts aim to reduce spider crime by at least 50% this summer but are calling on the community for assistance. If you see signs of spiders do not be afraid to phone the experts.
