On a Wednesday morning, if you visit Edgewater Resort for a coffee, you will surely see a group of industrious women sitting there knitting, drinking coffee and enjoying each other’s company.

This is Stitch Sisters, a group of women brought together by their common love of the craft of knitting. The group was established in 2019 by Lisa Craig and Lynn Moodie as a way to meet people with a shared interest and as a place to learn.

Members come from all walks of life, from beginners to experienced knitters, all with their own specialties, and who are happy to share their knowledge. The group attracts the attention of passing visitors

and has often had photographs taken by tourists to show to their knitting friends back home.

Visitors occasionally join the group and are always made welcome. Stitch Sisters have also knitted for charity, having donated to local midwives and to the community hub in recent years.

They have also been adopted as honorary aunties after being asked to knit for an expected baby by a mum, Morgana, whose skills she said weren’t up to it. After some lessons with one of the aunties, mum is now an occasional member of the group and currently knitting her first jumper for herself. She brings baby along and there are always multiple willing babysitters.

The Hub Will Be Hopping This Easter!

The Wanaka Community Hub is excited to announce our annual Wanaka Children’s Spectacular Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, 22 March 3.30 - 5.30pm at The Hub, 34 McDougall Street, Wanaka. Entry is Koha, with the proceeds going to the No Child Misses Out Fund organised by Community Link Upper Clutha.

This fund is available to all local families who would like help with school related costs (school uniforms or camp).

Easter fancy dress is encouraged but be aware that there will be some messy arts and crafts to get involved in and the hunt itself is outdoors. We will have two start times; 3.30 and 4.30pm. Make sure to give your preference when you register. We have fantastic community support with some great ra e prizes up for grabs!

Bring your trailer or truck and we’ll fill it with quality pine wood mulch! Sorry, no home deliveries possible. Support your garden as it prepares for winter, and you’ll also be helping the Wanaka Lions support your community too.

At $100 per cubic metre all funds raised will go back to the people of Wanaka and surrounding communities. WAI Wānaka out in the community for World Water Day

With World Water Day fast approaching this Friday, local organisation WAI Wānaka is encouraging communities of the Upper Clutha to re ect on the sign ciance of fresh water, and its critical role in sustaining families and life here in the catchment.

Cat Dillion, WAI’s Operations Manager, emphasises “In the face of increasing pressures on our lakes and rivers, it’s important we come together as a community to understand our impact, and how we can take action. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, or starting the conversation with your neighbour, every action counts.”

So we are seeking a new ‘angel’, able to work Saturdays and/ or Sundays regularly, to help care for a lady recovering from an accident. The lady concerned is mobile but frail, calm, gentle and quiet. Care is in her own single-level, very spacious, modern home in Wanaka.

The help required is to provide companionship, supervision, aid with nutrition and medication, and to give assistance and some respite for her full-time carer (husband). An above average remuneration is available for a suitable applicant.

The preferred requirements are as follows:

• Previous care experience Level 3 or 4, or...

• Previous medical, nursing, or healthcare experience.

• Carers must be calm, gentle, and especially patient.

• An Applicant must be Wanaka or regional resident.

• English as a first language.
