Last year’s show proved popular, especially the local sustainable designers category.

“With even more incredible members of our

community creating beautiful garments made from sustainably sourced materials, we’re excited for attendees to see what’s possible when the clothing industry slows down and puts our people and planet at the heart of their practices.”

Not only will the runway feature conscious clothing creators, but we’ll also get to see Wasties’ moodboard models, proving that there really is something for everyone when shopping second-hand first.

The Fox & Badger will be serving up some delicious kai, as well as beverages from Rhyme X Reason behind the bar. The evening will also feature spot prizes for those who join us wearing their favourite slow fashion story. Tickets are available through Wastebusters’ website. Wastebusters’ Refashion Show is proudly supported by QLDC Zero Waste District Programme.

Wānaka’s Open Mic Night for Original Works

WHAT: Open Mic Night (spoken word and song)

Nothing gets Wānaka’s creative juices owing quite like creative humans taking the stage to share their original music, poetry and spoken word.

Held on the second Wednesday of every month, Creative Juices is an open mic night for original spoken word and song, kindly hosted and fuelled by Rhyme X Reason.

Every month, a cosy crowd settles into the local brewery with cold-ones in hand, elbows rubbing and cushions and couches providing the perfect backdrop for both performers and listeners.

Throughout the night, local creatives take the mic to share their original works, whether it be songs, poems, stories, instruments, electronic beats or improvised collaborations.

Have something to share? Head along this Wednesday, 13 March at 7.00pm and bare your soul to a room full of friends and strangers, or just watch and get inspired for next time. There will be a Koha Jar at the door, where your donations will buy the brave and wonderful open-micers a drink.

Wanaka Preschool Sustainable Gala

In 2021 the Preschool achieved the Green/Gold Enviroschool recognition.

The Enviroschool kaupapa to value and care for our environment, ourselves and others is key to the Preschool’s core values and we come together every year to celebrate with what we call our Sustainable Gala. We focus on recycled, repurposed, natural goods like plants, hand made articles, baking and of course activities for the children. Pure NZ has donated ice creams and there will be burgers and sausages on the grill. As part of our annual and diverse festival programmes, we speci cally create opportunities to spark joy and creativity in curious minds. Through school visits, performances and workshops with guest speakers and artists, there are many ways for students to engage in our programmes.

Mat Doyle, Head of Learning Arts at Mount Aspiring College, expresses his gratitude for the support provided by Aspiring Conversations, “opportunities with artists expose our students to the intricacies of arts industries and inspire them to explore new ways of expressing their ideas and stories, such as through music. Aspiring Conversations plays an indispensable role in the creative trajectories of our students, and we extend our deepest thanks for their continual commitment to o ering our students opportunities they would otherwise miss out on in our little bubble.”

At this year’s Aspiring Conversations, singer-songwriters Julia Deans and Adam McGrath will lead workshops at Mount Aspiring College. Sophie Handford, founder of School Strike 4 Climate and Kāpiti Councillor, will speak with students. The Ngāi Tahu Archive team will present on historical connections between Te Waipounamu South Island and Waitangi, pre and post 1840. We will also be showcasing a writing project in collaboration with MAC’s English department and two students join our panel, ‘What is the Tipping Point?’.

We are regretably losing one of our regular ‘Wanaka Angel’ part time carers, who is moving to Dunedin in mid-March.

So we are seeking a new ‘angel’, able to work Saturdays and/ or Sundays regularly, to help care for a lady recovering from an accident. The lady concerned is mobile but frail, calm, gentle and quiet. Care is in her own single-level, very spacious, modern home in Wanaka.

The help required is to provide companionship, supervision, aid with nutrition and medication, and to give assistance and some respite for her full-time carer (husband). The essential requirements are as follows:

• Previous care experience Level 3 or 4, or...

• Previous medical, nursing, or healthcare experience.

• Carers must be calm, gentle, and especially patient.

• An Applicant must be Wanaka or area resident.

• Previous medical or nursing experience would be very helpful.

• English as a first language.

• References are required and will be exchanged.
