Coastguard Wanaka Lakes relies on a Designated Person Ashore (DPA) to ensure volunteer safety on the water. The DPA maintains constant communication with the Unit’s vessel, Waiariki Rescue, during training or operational activities.

We need someone to handle tasks such as maintaining communication with the CRV, other vessels and rescue organizations, and logging everything. Training provided.

Friends of Bullock Creek – It’s Planting Time!

Autumn and Winter are the months we do all our planting at the Bullock Creek Wetlands and as they say, “many hands make light work”.

Since 2016, the Friends of Bullock Creek Charitable Trust, with their dedicated group of volunteers, have been carrying out an extensive native restoration project at the spring fed source of Wanaka’s iconic Bullock Creek. The over two hectare site, adjacent to the old trout hatchery, owned by Fish & Game Otago is now protected in perpetuity with a Queen Elizabeth II covenant.

If you’d like to be involved with Friends of Bullock Creek Trust to enhance and protect Bullock Creek into the future, please join us at the Wetlands on Thursday afternoons 2.00 – 4.00pm, or for other planting days we advertise. But don’t worry, if gardening is not your thing, you can equally support our work by o ering your governance, fundraising or computer skills to us. Just get in touch. PULSE: Positive Uplift and Life Skills Ed

Youth, join us for exhilarating adventures with PULSE, the newest programme brought to you by Kāhu Youth and The Fit Collective. Formerly known as BLAST, this legacy programme has been passed on to Kāhu Youth by the Wānaka Police. The aim of PULSE is to create positive connections between youth and community through fun and unique tness sessions. Community partners that will run tness sessions include; Wānaka Police, Search and Rescue teams, and Wānaka Fire Brigade.

Bene ts for youth include:

• building positive connections between youth and community agencies and groups

• education on nutrition, included is a nutritious breakfast after each session

• building of self-esteem and resilience by trying new things, overcoming challenges

• teamwork, working together and supporting each other through challenges

• increase in well-being and mental health, through physical activity

• feeling a sense of belonging within the team

Join the Repair Revolution with Wastebusters

Dust o your broken treasure as it’s time for a repair revolution! Wastebusters and their team of incredible volunteer repair superheroes are back!

The Repair Revolution is a fun, free event with an aim to bring the community together, share repair knowledge and give broken items a new lease on life.

Anyone is welcome to bring in their broken treasures to receive free advice and repairs, including bikes, toys, small electricals and clothing. These events are the perfect opportunity to sit with their repairer and engage with the process.

The Repair Revolution will return to Wānaka on Sunday, 14 April and Sunday, 5 May at the Wānaka Community Workshop and Fabricate. Both events run from 11.00am – 3.00pm.
