Texas Star Quarter Horses

In addition to their skill in the saddle, it is Amanda and Neil’s continued investment in genetics to produce supreme progeny that has earned their reputation as respected breeders.

BRED TO PERFORM Amanda Nicholson and Neil Faint of Texas Star Quarter Horses, situated in picturesque Campdrafting country in Tamworth, New South Wales, are demonstrating a new standard of breeding excellence in Quarter and Australian Stock Horses. With four leading sires standing at stud and 20 broodmares handselected for their genetics, Amanda and Neil are commanding attention as two of Australia’s leading producers of high quality performance horses.

Their approach to breeding is founded upon making firm decisions as to which stallion and mare will produce that winning combination. Born in New South Wales into horse-loving families, Amanda and Neil both had their feet firmly planted in the stirrups from a young age. Through their own equestrian pursuits with Australian Stock Horses in tow - Neil in rodeo and mustering on the family property; Amanda in pony club then on to junior cut outs - they each ignited a passion for the exciting Australian sport of Campdrafting.

Establishing Texas Star Quarter Horses singlehandedly in 2008, Amanda aspired to produce performance horses that would excel in the disciplines of Campdrafting and Cutting. Travelling to Weatherford, Texas, in the United States to research elite Quarter Horse genetics, Amanda’s approach to breeding is founded on making firm decisions as to which stallion and mare will produce that winning combination.

Since meeting at Dungowan Campdraft in September 2010, Amanda and Neil have successfully combined their years of experience and their competitive edge to continuously produce Quarter and Australian Stock Horses that showcase exceptional breeding and an ability to perform, with sires Duckrey, Yulgilbar Hank Man Chex, Wattleridge Doughty and QP Clover Doc at the fore. An ACA and ABCRA Open Campdraft Judge and extremely accomplished breeder, trainer and Campdraft rider with countless wins and places in Restricted Open, Open, Novice and Maiden Campdrafts, Neil has bred and trained successful Campdraft horses, including Blackhat Kristy Lee, Blackhat Little Meg, Turners Stud Flirt, Wattleridge Doughty, Blackhat Miss Dee and Binnia Obsolete. Indeed, it is Neil and Amanda’s own achievements as esteemed competitors that also contributes to their success.

Campdrafting Clinics

While Amanda and Neil are incredibly humble and unassuming, there is certainly no denying they are ones to watch in the Australian sport of Campdrafting. Most recently, Neil and Turners Stud Flirt placed 2nd overall in the 2015 World Championship Campdraft in Sydney. This is an invitation only event and limited to the current top 15 Campdraft riders. Neil and Duckrey placed 2nd out of more than 60 competitors in the Snaffle Bit Cutting at Nowendoc Campdraft in November 2014; the combination’s very first Cutting show. More recently, they won the Snaffle Bit Cutting at Nowendoc Campdraft in April 2015; this being their second attempt at the sport.

Amanda and Neil are also paving the way for a safer and more enjoyable Campdrafting experience for young and beginner competitors, with Neil now hosting regular Campdrafting and Horsemanship clinics throughout New South Wales and interstate. Passionate about the future of Campdrafting, which is attracting more and more families each year, Amanda and Neil have a high regard for horse and rider safety, while sharing the thrill of Campdrafting with upand-coming riders.

Studbook Quarter Horse stallion Duckrey, sired by Dual Rey (IS) and out of Dashing Duckling, was purchased in 2011 to deepen the genetic pool at Texas Star Quarter Horses. An Open Campdraft horse and the first Dual Rey progeny to Campdraft, win and become an Open horse in the world, Duckrey now has more than 100 registered progeny on the ground throughout Australia. His oldest progeny are four-year-olds and the future is looking bright for his young stock. Duckrey’s half sister, Ducks Dux, is now Australia’s All Time NCHA Leading Money Earner, with winnings in excess of $166,000.

At home, Amanda and Neil pride themselves on maintaining a pristine breeding property located along the New England Highway, just minutes from the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre.

One of Amanda’s standout achievements in her own Campdrafting career was in 2008 when she and Yulgilbar Hank Man Chex won the 2008/09 AQHA Reserve Champion High Point Campdraft Horse of the Year and were featured on the front cover of The Australian Horseman Magazine in March 2009. In 2014, Amanda and Binnia Obsolete placed 3rd in the Ladies Campdraft at Gulargambone and were winners in the Ladies Campdraft at Mullaley in 2013. However, in addition to their skill in the saddle, it is Amanda and Neil’s continued investment in genetics to produce supreme progeny to the advantage of their clients that has earned their reputation as respected breeders. Two in particular are 2009 drop progeny, Texas Star Commanchie Quixote and Texas Star Majestic Chex, both of which were sold as yearlings at the 2010 Landmark Yearling and Broodmare Sale in Toowoomba, Queensland.
