MOVING YOU

SPRING 2019

WELCOME

We’re delighted to present our @HOME company Theatre Re with a preview of new work BIRTH, before it premieres at the London International Mime Festival. We’ve had the pleasure of seeing this work being created over the past year in our Creation Space. Previous Associate Artist Ceyda Tanc Dance brings KAYA, a powerful comment on human displacement. Circus aficionados Barely Methodical Troupe return with my favourite work of theirs KIN, a humorous blast of athleticism, and one sure to have you ooh-ing and aahing, as well as chuckling in your seat.

With the extraordinary Paper Cinema’s retelling of Macbeth through projection, paper puppetry and haunting live music, and the cabaret musical from Silent Uproar, A Super Happy Story about Feeling Sad - our theatre offer will pull on your heart strings. We are delighted to announce that we’ll be busy making our building even better for all our audiences and participants throughout 2019, after successfully being awarded a Small Capital Grant from Arts Council England; which will allow us to enhance our Studio Theatre, website, and make some surprising additions to the outside of the building with light and projection. We will be launching Your Point very soon, so watch this space!

CEYDA TANC DANCE PRESENTS

“...so excellent that they surpass any contemporary dance performance I have seen”

KAYA

DAVID WEEDALL, FRINGE REVIEW

KAYA explores human experiences of displacement, drawing on the strength and resilience of those searching for belonging in a new community. In the early 1900’s, forced migration of Anatolian Greeks left the Turkish village Kayaköy as a ghost town. One hundred years later, Turkey is at the epicentre of the Syrian Refugee Crisis, holding over 3.2 million Syrian refugees. Tanc was compelled to make a work that will provoke audiences to reflect on the global scale of displacement, by drawing on the experiences and stories within their own communities.

BIRTH

PREVIEW PERFORMANCE

Birth is a powerfully sensitive new piece of visual theatre about being on a precipice; losing and creating a new life. Emily is six months pregnant when she reads her grandmother’s journal. Delving into the depths of her family history triggers a shift in her sense of reality, unveiling a legacy of unspoken tragedies, courage and unconditional love. Birth was inspired by the field of psychogenealogy, Frida Kahlo and interviews with women. Funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Co-commissioned by London International Mime Festival, The Point Eastleigh and South Hill Park. Supported by Shoreditch Town Hall, The Lowry and the University of Kent.
