Summer 2013

Welcome Following a long winter we are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to The Berry Theatre’s new Artistic Director Owen Calvert-Lyons. This summer you’ll find a range of events suitable for all ages at The Berry Theatre. Our theatre programme is home to the acclaimed Reduced Shakespeare Company, plus a passionate twohanded version of Robert Tressell’s classic The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Townsend Productions. You’ll also find Laura Mugridge with her watery tale of a man who lives in a lighthouse – a beautiful and intricate show with live music, nautical jumpers and more... Our programme for families offers children the chance to get on stage and help create a magical world of animals and monsters in our Claytime play with clay event, or to catch some beautiful puppetry, music, storytelling and transforming sets with Theatre of Widdershins’ Rumpelsiltskin and the Wheel of Fortune.

Alongside this we have our usual programme of film screenings from Hollywood Blockbusters to family favourites and a beautiful documentary about Canada’s indigenous Eskimo dogs, The Last Dogs of Winter. You’ll also find information about ways to get involved with the theatre from New Writing to our Youth Theatre and community projects. We look forward to you joining us and to welcoming you back to see renowned theatre and comedy on your doorstep.

Cheryl Butler Head of Culture facebook.com/theberrytheatre @theberrytheatre The Berry Theatre is managed under agency by Eastleigh Borough Council. Please contact Ellie Russell on 023 8062 7810 (ellie.russell@eastleigh.gov.uk) for information on sponsoring the next season brochure.

After 25 years of success, the oldest member of a worldrenowned string quartet decides that he must retire when he learns he has Parkinson’s disease. As hidden resentments come to the surface, the members must struggle to stay together in the face of death, competing egos and insuppressible lust.

Based on a children’s book by William Joyce, this animated adventure follows a teenager as she finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil is taking place. She must band together with a ragtag group of characters in order to save their world - and ours.

Nekropolis

Both difficult and compelling – this film parallels the downward spiral of a man with the destruction of the city in which he lives. Nekropolis is a timely story echoing the concerns of both parent and youth in the present economic climate. Southampton never looked so magnificent or bleak.
