Love on the Tracks

By Richard Attlee. Directed by Michael Woodwood. Inspired by the short stories of Anton Chekhov. On a summer’s evening in 1890, a train pulls out of Moscow station. On board sit three fretful passengers, each with an extraordinary tale to tell. As their stories are played out in a series of delightful comic vignettes, the drama in the carriage tantalisingly unfolds. Love on the Tracks is a romantic comedy inspired by the early stories and farces of Anton Chekhov. Full of light-hearted humour and wonderfully eccentric

Monkey Poet’s Murder Mystery

A platform for new and emerging writing talent in Hampshire. The Berry Theatre presents an evening of rehearsed play readings, of short plays and extracts. The aim of these evenings is to get new plays up on their feet with script in hand so the writers can hear their words in front of a public audience. The actors have a limited time to work on short plays and extracts, which makes this a fresh and exciting experience for all. You will see work in progress, presented by a creative team of people looking to offer an example of how these plays could work on stage for the first time. This is an excellent opportunity for audience members and writers to feedback and discuss new work and work in progress from playwrights in Hampshire.

Think Bill Hicks meets Mark Thomas, add a splash of rhyme and you’ve got Monkey Poet! In this new show Philip Marlowe meets classic Clint Eastwood and Last Man Standing. A comedy-filmnoir-mystery-murder-poetry-thriller. A serial killer is killing the poets on Literature Lane and Beat St, and frankly, no one cares... who would? Sylvia Plath calls on Monkey Poet to investigate Keats’ death. This case has nothing to do with daffodils. Shakespeare warns him off the case, Homer wants him to take it, Wilde winks suggestively, and Monkey Poet gets drawn into a mystery that answers the greatest question of all. Why bother with poetry?
