Campus Event Suyash Khanna Jabalpur. Confiding your hurt, and your pain into your loved ones mitigates it and helps you overcome it. This is what Rashi thakran, a Mental Health advocate, believes in. Thakran, also a changemaker with change.org & a Mental Health Council member of Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI), addressed a session in the JECRC University. The mind opening session headlined ‘Empowerment through Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention.’ was organised by Pratidhvani- Samaj Ki Awaaz. Losing your loved one is definitely a grief that truly never goes away but that does not mean we should stop trying. Ms. Thakran is an inspiration for people in grief and agony as after losing her brother in suicide, it made her introspect about how important it is to amplify the

need of mental healthcare. Thakran quoted her experience in Egypt where she worked with refugees hailing from Tanzania, Syria, Oman, Saudi Arabia etc. She worked with less than 15 year olds who were deprived of basic education. A three-yearold girl had lost her siblings and entire family in a Syrian bombing. She recalled how sad her eyes looked and in that moment she forgot the pain of losing her brother and realised how grateful she should be of having someone at least in comparison to that little girl. She said that, “Conversation is the key to well being and it starts at home. So please if anyone has any negative thoughts so they must speak it to their family members or friends. They may take some time, but they would definitely understand.” She emphasised to the audience that being grateful, acknowledging pain, active listening, shattering mental heath taboo, facilitating funding of mental healthcare infrastructure, addressing the gender gap in families and coex-
