aipur. The Smart India Hackathon, 36 hours nonstop national event started from 1st April 2017 at 8AM at Jaipur Engineering College & Research Centre, Tonk road Campus . JECRC student journalists covered the event while interviewing different teams and government officials. Various teams and government officials shared their ideas and objectives. This Grand Event started simultaneously in 33 locations throughout India. In Jaipur, the Jaipur Engineering College & Research Centre was one of the two nodal centers of Rajasthan and the only university or college of Rajasthan as a nodal center. More than 42 teams consisting of 400 students and 100 technical experts competed at the JECRC College, finding the solutions

One of those bright minds, Mr. Himanshu Ratan, Director, KPMG, Infrastructure and Government Services was interviewed by our JECRC student journalist. Here are some excerpts; Lakshika Mathur: How would you

describe this grand event, ‘Hackathon’? Mr. Himanshu Ratan: It’s a massive event across 26 locations in India which involves youth across the country to solve problems, Government departments are facing in terms of applied technology. It is the largest ‘Hackathon’ in the world with large participation of students from all over India. Students from almost all states are here. This will give an opportunity to bright young minds to perform creatively. They are really excited and enthusiastic and working on the given problems. Lakshika Mathur: What is its objective with the vision of Digital India? Mr. Himanshu Ratan: In my views, the main objective of this event is to spread idea of digitalization in

urban as well as rural and remote areas. For example, By this, even a rural man can easily operate mobile phones for cashless transactions and needs. Its objective is to make technology more user friendly, advanced, accessible and economic for all the Indians. Lakshika Mathur: How can we reach out to those rural or remote areas? Will you please explain it little more? Mr. Himanshu Ratan: In those areas, there are not good facilities of telecommunication technology but, by hotspot and Wi-Fi technology, they are making whatsapp calls and using social networking sites, So, by the time, we leverage that technology to them, so they can also become the part of ‘Digital India’.

There were around 500 participations across the country. Students had a very good experience related to IT programs. Hackathon is a new step toward “Digital India”

By this, we are getting chance to serve our country directly. Rimjhim: What kind of the task you are given? Aikaton : We are developing an android app namely ‘India Post’. Our problem task is to save time of post man, Actually, many times Post man doesn’t find addressee at his address. So, we are developing an app, to send a message or to call. This calling and messaging facility is fully automatic. The costing of the calls is also reasonable. Whenever, addressee will be available, Post man will go that time to deliver his post.
