Summer hits the Northern India

The rising temperature issues continue this year too, as Rajasthan along with the north is hit with Summer Lakshika Mathur

Jaipur.

The metrological department on Thursday said that the entire North Indian region will continue to face hot weather conditions for the next four days. According to them, the sudden rise in the temperatures is due to the presence of dry and hot air which is blowing from the southern latitude. Anti-cyclonic circulations have resulted in solar heating. In March end only, District Churu is facing more than 48 degree Celsius temperature which is troubling the non-ready and surprised residents. The weather department is predicting that there will be rain in the first week of April. The department spoke of a ‘severe heat wave at a few places over west Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Vidharba and at isolated places over Haryana and Delhi, east Uttar Pradesh (UP) and central Maharashtra.’

Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur and Ajmer recorded maxi-

mum temperatures of 47.3, 47, 46.2, 46, 45.6 degree Celsius re-

spectively. In Jaipur as well, the temperature has reached to a

scorching 45 degree Celsius. According to Laxman Singh Rathore, the Director General(DG) of IMD, Delhi, ‘It has been observed since 2001, places in northern India, especially in Rajasthan, are witnessing a rising temperature trend every year. The main reason being the excessive use of energy and emission of carbon dioxide. Factors like urbanization and industrialization too have added to the global warming phenomenon. I think similar trend would be maintained in Rajasthan in the coming days.’ Farmers are also upset with the weather as rapid change in weather can damage the crops they are working on tirelessly, day in and day out. They can do nothing but pray for favourable conditions. However, 2015 and 2016 were one of the worst years for the state due to the abnormal weather conditions.

‘A Sweet Drop of Water on a Long Summer day’

A film like ‘Lagaan’ is what we need during ‘famine of good movies’ Sadiq Khan

a landmark in the history of Indian cinema, ‘Lagaan’. The film was released in June, 2001 with an unprecedented budget at the time. ‘Lagaan’ was successful both critically and commercially. Wikipedia cites its budget as Rs. 250 million (25 crore) and its box office result as Rs. 700 million (70 crore). Not just in India, the film was immensely successful in the US and other western countries as well. Keeping in mind the masses of the west doesn’t actually acknowledge aipur. The summer is here. cricket as a game, still the film Let’s talk about a movie, which proved relevant to the audiclimax is based on Summer, ence, and as a result, it also that has established itself as won an academy award nom-

ination (Best Picture in Foreign Language). This is what we need right now, the Indian film industry today lacks original ideas. Although it still produces some great films once in a while, its films have not been able to get out of the Indian shell and be a global phenomenon like ‘Lagaan’ has been. The film is set in the Victorian India. Though produced in summer, its characters come as a breath of fresh air for the Indian cinema and cinemagoers all over the world, that are original and relevant. aipur. Jaipur is one of the dry places of India, therefore it demands the high need of water. In these high demand how Jaipur Water Management system works. How it manages the supply of large amount of water to the population of more than 3 million people. So, let’s just check out where this water comes from and how it all works. At present, the supply of water for Jaipur and it’s rural areas comes from Bisalpur which is approximately 160 km away from Jaipur. It needs a high budget to supply and filter these water, because of its long distance. Jaipur is currently ex-

periencing growing water scarcity and diminishing drinking water sources, because Jaipur has a semiarid climate and it receive only 600 millimeters of rainfall annually, mostly between June and September. If we talk about that how people consume the water, it is difficult to say that there is no organized water consumption and saving system. It appeared that people ignored saving water. Because, the government had promised providing water at free of cost for everyone. But, how government working for resolving this problem is very difficult. From Bisalpur, 275 MLD of wa-

ter is supplying and 100 MLD from other tube wells or small ponds. The only 375 MLD of water is being supplied to Jaipur. For supplying this quantity of water, there are six water supply pumping stations for Bisalpur water. At designated head works, this work is operated and maintained by SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). The Bisalpur water system consists of 2 parts, transmission system and transfer system as per the studies on present scenario. We need more resources in future to protect Jaipur for scarcity of water.

annual tax the farmers must pay. He is a racist, and racist to an extent even his fellow officers think he’s over the top. Then there’s Bhuvan, a leader among its people and obsessed with cricket. He collides with Captain Russell and tells him that even Indians can excel at the sport. Then a deal between Captain Russell and Bhuvan cracks, if India wins there will be no Lagaan for three years, if the British win, the Lagaan will be tripled. There’s Gauri, Bhuvan’s lover. There’s evil British commander’s sister, ‘Elizabeth Russell’, who comes to the rescue of the Indian team, explaining

the alien game to the team. She’s doing so because she is secretly in love with Bhuvan and somewhere even Gauri knows it. There’s endless characters in the film, yet nothing seems forced. The film is long, yet nothing seems stretched. In fact, it is one of the longest films made in the modern age. It’s running time clocks at 224 minutes. It basically has everything a usual film has; a lovable protagonist, an antagonist that we hate, a love triangle, musical numbers, but what makes it different from other films is its director’s treatment, to the characters, to the story; to the film.
