Truer words have never been spoken. I’m not sure if you know this, but recent studies have shown that money can buy happiness. As long as you’re spending it on others, that is, and not on yourself. Americans give roughly $300 billion to several charitable organizations every year. Atlanta is a wonderful representative of this number. Many of Atlantans offer up their time and money to local non-profits (Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Ovarian and Breast Cancer Associations, the Red Cross, etc.) time and time again. These are all important and muchneeded organizations that have saved many lives. There is one group of Atlanta residents, however, who are unfortunately, often overlooked. Our senior citizens. The elderly and frail. Whatever you wish to call them, this group of individuals desperately needs our help. With the baby boomer population growing exponentially, this is an issue we can no longer ignore. We all have parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends who have reached the “senior” age group. Some of these “seniors” have a fixed income, or no income, relying solely on the generosity of others. Senior Services North Fulton (SSNF) is a charitable organization that is working diligently to make sure the aging population is provided for, and provided for well. SSNF provides Meals on Wheels (MOW), transportation to physicians’ appointments (TOPS), respite and personal home care, and free access to one of three senior activity centers. This organization brings caring and peace of mind to a great deal of the elderly in our community. SSNF holds only one fundraiser a year. 2013’s fundraiser, “Heart and Soul: Celebrating the Lives of Seniors” is quickly approaching the need for sponsors is greater than ever. too small. From donated items for the silent and live auction to corporate sponsorships to monetary donations are all welcome and greatly appreciated. The gala is scheduled for Saturday, February 16th at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John’s Creek and will provide an amazing night of fun with a champagne reception followed by a sit-down dinner and a live auction. The band “Platinum” will be there to play some awesome music, and there are some fantastic items up for bid. So what I’m asking of you is simple: Are you willing to help Senior Services North Fulton provide necessary and vital services for Atlanta’s rapidly growing senior population? If giving to others is a way to increase your happiness and benefit your health, all the while providing much needed services to those in need, then why not?
