Community “OOT & ABOOT” (It’s a Canadian thing.)

T

here are so many great businesses in and around our community that are worthy of our support so I thought I would share some of the places I can personally recommend to you our readers!

La Vida Massage - Johns Creek & Alpharetta

Is picking up a 600lb motorcycle the wrong way a good idea, nope but I did it anyway. Now that I had a back that feels like it’s been hit by a truck I figured I’d better get to La Vida Massage to see if they would fare better than my heating pad and did they ever. This place is awesome. Not only did I feel great when I left, I felt even better three days later. Now I understand why women love getting massages so much. So gentlemen take note, “GIFT alert, GIFT alert” what could be a better gift or stocking stuffer than a one hour massage for her or as a couple? Trust me, you’ll score some major brownie points for this one!

Toscana Trattoria - 4090 Johns Creek Pkwy, Suwanee

If you love good homemade Italian comfort food, then you’re going to love Toscana’s, one of my favorite places to eat. I really like their generous portions of Chicken Piccata, Italian Pot Roast, Sautéed Shrimp in a Roasted Garlic Wine Sauce, Pizza and their amazing homemade bread and herbed Olive Oil! Toscana’s also has a lot going on during the week and especially popular is their Wine Down Wednesday and Live Music on Thursday. Check them out; you won’t be disappointed!

Kitchen of Atlanta – 11030 Medlock Bridge, Johns Creek

I have no idea why people aren’t lined up around the block to eat at this place because hands down, KOA has the best Burgers and Fish & Chips in town! Their ingredients are always fresh and their portions generous, so do yourself a favor and head over to Johns Creek Walk and give these guys a try because they deserve to be on your favorite list as well!

Cryomist - 11720 Medlock Bridge Road, Johns Creek

From my back pain episode that I talked about above, I was willing to try anything -- including whole-body cryotherapy. Being from Toronto, thinking about standing in a temperature between -220°F to -300°F was less than appealing. Much to my surprise, my treatment experience at Cryomist gave me a more relaxed rest of the day, where I didn’t even think about my back pain. So, for a second test drive in the cryosauna, I sent AnneMarie like any good Publisher would do. She seems to have muscle soreness on a regular basis because most of her evenings are spent at a studio or gym. After her first experience, she said her muscle soreness went away, had increased energy, and felt great. So great, that she went back again...and again. Whether for health and wellness, muscle recovery, or even anti-aging, you should check out Cryomist. Now with locations in Johns Creek and Mall of Georgia.

Community Consider Gifts that Give Back This Holiday Season

W

Help Children

hile the latest video game can make a big hit, the most meaningful gifts are often ones that help those in need. The holidays are the perfect time to give a charitable gift that could make a profound difference in someone’s life.

The perfect gift can help brighten up the life of a child in even the most dire situations. There are an estimated 45 million people around the world who have been uprooted from their homes by war, persecution and disaster, many of them children. Sometimes, the need for love and reassurance is just as great as the need for food and shelter.

Donating your time or money to a charity in honor of a loved one is a great way to reach out and help others this holiday season:

Consider giving the International Rescue Committee’s Teddy Bear and Creativity Kit to a child on behalf of friends or family as a gift this holiday. In crisis zones like Syria, children hold tight to their beloved teddy bears, finding emotional support in a simple toy. A Rescue Gift like the Teddy Bear and Creativity Kit can provide three children with their own teddy bears, as well as a toy and coloring kit that will help them cope with the psychological distress of war and upheaval. For more information, visit www.Rescue.org/Gifts.

Work at a Soup Kitchen Many people have made working at a soup kitchen a holiday tradition. Something as simple as giving the homeless and hungry a hot meal and a full stomach can make a person’s day. Contact your local soup kitchen to see how you can volunteer. If you don’t have time to help out in person, consider donating non-perishable goods, as many soup kitchens have a food pantry as well.

Rescue Gifts You can also help provide essentials for people in need by giving a “Rescue Gift” in the name of friends and family. Rescue Gifts are charitable gifts that support humanitarian aid work and represent the kinds of emergency relief and services that the International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides to refugees and others uprooted by war and disaster.

“Support from the purchase of Rescue Gifts allows the IRC to address crisis places like Syria, in addition to offering ongoing support and lifesaving care for people around the world affected by catastrophes that have slipped from the headlines,” says Nancy Haitch, VP of External Relations at the IRC.

Rescue Gifts, such as a pair of baby goats, can help put a family in drought-ridden Somalia back on the road to recovery by helping to start a new herd. Or the gift of a year of school can help supply the tuition, books and other materials to send a young Afghan girl to school.

While conventional presents are often soon forgotten, a charitable gift can have a lasting effect beyond the holiday season. (StatePoint)

fter the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan, thousands of Fillipinos were displaced from their homes. Entire areas of the country were destroyed. Among the first responders were the people of ShelterBox USA. An offshoot of Rotary International, ShelterBox USA is an organization that provides relief to victims of natural disasters. ShelterBox literally provides shelter and life sustaining necessities in a box. As Rotary Club of Alpharetta member and ShelterBox USA director Wayne Robinson noted,“These boxes contain tents, flashlights, water, water purification tablets, hammers, candles, and other items needed to meet basic needs.” ShelterBox was conceived by a single Rotarian in England and his idea has helped hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Rotarian Robinson has been deployed to disasters many times, including the massive earthquake in Haiti and recently to the tornadoes in Oklahoma. Each box costs about $1000 and the Rotary Club of Alpharetta has pledged to send at least 5 boxes to the Phillipines. These funds will be matched by other Rotary clubs in District 6900 bringing the total amount of aid sent to over $ 75,000. Alpharetta Rotary club President Dan Merkel noted, “ShelterBox is a great way for our club to support disaster relief.” He added, “this aid goes immediately and directly to those affected by this typhoon.” ShelterBox director Robinson noted that due to the positive connections Rotary International and ShelterBox have established, we are ensured that the boxes reach their intended destinations. Rotarian Robinson has been featured on CNN for his work and expertise with ShelterBox.

AHA Recognizes North Fulton Hospital

N

orth Fulton Hospital has recently been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) with the Gold Plus Award for Stroke Care. This marks the third consecutive year that North Fulton Hospital has received the Gold Plus Award, which is the AHA’s highest award for providing quality care to stroke patients. North Fulton Hospital’s Stroke Program was also placed on the AHA’s new Target Stroke Honor Roll. The Gold Plus Award for Stroke recognizes facilities who meet stroke quality measures for 24 consecutive months. The quality measures include treating suspected stroke victims within 4.5 hours of the onset of symptoms, screening for dysphagia, and providing stroke education. “Our Stroke Center strives to perform quick evaluations of possible stroke victims and administer t-PA for eligible patients within the first 60 minutes after a patient arrives,” says Pat Victor, Coordinator of North Fulton Hospital’s Stroke Program. “In fact, North Fulton Hospital works very hard to train its nursing staff in all areas of the hospital on how to give t-PA and monitor for any effects so the drug can be administered as quickly as possible wherever the patient is.” North Fulton Hospital’s Stroke Center has been a Certified Stroke Center since 2005. The center has five neurologists and two neurosurgeons on staff, in addition to its Program Coordinator. For more information about North Fulton Hospital’s Stroke Center, visit www.NFultonHospital.com or call 770-751-2600.

hile the holidays are intended to bring much joy and happiness, many people find themselves stressed during this crazy time of year. Local business man Douglas Kaye, a Johns Creek resident, is seeking to bring a little extra light and laughter to the season this year. Kaye, owner of LB Marketing, was sitting in rush-hour traffic last Christmas and noticed the misery on all of the driver’s faces. It was such a contrast to the holiday decorations that were all around. Doug decided then and there that he would create a way for people to have fun while driving their cars during the holiday season and make other people smile. Within a couple of short months, Kaye came up with idea of WOW Antlers, the first LED lighted antlers of their kind, made for both cars and bicycles. Surely this would bring smiles to the masses traveling on the Atlanta roads day after day! Kaye and his team created a wonderful feel good story that about WOW Antlers that the whole family will love. Earl, Barry, and Rusty are the renowned reindeer that are the creators of Santa Claus’ reindeer training facilities, or R.T.F. In their studies, Earl, Barry, and Rusty have found that, although highly conditioned and trained, reindeer get tired during their trip around the world every Christmas. Therefore, R.T.F is releasing WOW Antlers. This homing device allows Santa’s team of eight to know where they can rest and feed to regain their energy. WOW Antlers are sure to light up the holiday season and bring joy to many! Johns Creek is proud to have a local resident like Kaye that seeks to find ways to bring extra happiness to the community. There will no doubt be many more smiles on the roads of Johns Creek and greater Atlanta this Christmas.

River Eves Students Share Love Of Reading

S

tudents at River Eves Elementary School collected 120 books for those facing an unexpected stay in Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta hospitals. Through its annual PTA Family Fun Service Night, students and their families enjoy a fun evening together, while learning to give back to others in the community. This year, River Eves chose to partner again with Roswell Friends, a community volunteer group of women who live in East Roswell. “Our students are enthusiastic readers and this year, they thought that children in the hospital would also enjoy the escape reading offers,” said Principal Neil Pinnock. Roswell Friends co-chairs Melissa Crean and Lori Craven delivered the books and hundreds of toiletries that were also collected at the PTA-sponsored event to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The books will be distributed to the three Children’s Healthcare hospitals— Scottish Rite, Egleston and Hughes Spalding—located in the metro Atlanta area. The toiletries are given to family members who find themselves unexpectedly staying at the hospital with a child. “Like too many families in our community, we spent many hours in the library with our oldest daughter’s past hospitalizations at CHOA Egleston and Scottish Rite,” added Mr. Pinnock. “It was truly an escape from the stress you associate with a stay in the hospital.”

Independence Students Can (and DID) Do Good!

F

or the second consecutive year, the Independence High School Interact Club participated in the “Can Do Good” competition sponsored by the Architecture and Engineering firm of Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, in partnership with the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Fulton County Public Schools and North Point Mall. The goal of the program is to support the efforts of local food banks and to introduce high school students to the basic concepts of architecture and engineering while promoting community awareness and social responsibility. Club members conducted a canned food drive which resulted in over 1000 cans being donated, then used the cans to create an original sculpture of a highway scene entitled, “The Bridge to End Hunger.”

The competition was held at North Point Mall at 9:00 a.m. on November 9 and students were given three hours in which to assemble their structure prior to evaluation by the judges at noon. Independence earned 3rd Place in the general judging and 1st Place in the Viewers’ Choice category, winning two beautiful trophies and a gift card for the school for their efforts. The structures will remain on display in Northpoint’s Center Court for one week, after which time the food will be donated to North Fulton Community Charities in time for the holidays.

hen children see the prevalence of science in everyday life and are exposed to the excitement of scientific discovery first hand, they are more likely to develop a lifelong appreciation for and understanding of scientific concepts. Such is the idea behind Science Day, an innovative, daylong program at Hillside Elementary School in Roswell, Georgia, designed to expose students to the wonders of the natural world. Held on Friday, November 15, was a large-scale, daylong event dedicated to exposing, inspiring and engaging people in the Hillside Community—and beyond—to the wonders of science. All students, from Kindergarten through 5th grade, worked in collaborative groups, studied fundamental science concepts, and acquired reallife experiences and problem-solving skills as they delved into grade-appropriate, skill-based experiments. “If we are to increase the science literacy of our community, we need to show that science, math, and engineering are relevant and exciting. Science Day helps to generate curiosity about science and promotes a positive mindset, but it also provides an innovative way to integrate science into writing, reading and mathematics — as well as character building and teamwork,” said Dr. Maisha Otway, principal of Hillside Elementary School. Schools Undefeated Kickers Win Tournament

T

he “Kickers” who play in 9-10 youth girl soccer league from the Newtown Recreations soccer league, won a two game tournament to put the finishing touches on an undefeated season. They went 8-0 in the regular season before defeating the Cosmos in the championship game. In the championship game, the Kickers found themselves down 1-0 at the half. The team responded like champs by scoring 3 goals in the final half to win the game. Chloe Nicholas, the team’s leading scorer for the season, scored two of the goals while Noor Kayyali scored the third. Other standouts for the team include goalie Kendal Areheart, forwards Gracie Zimmerman and Kylie Frazier, Stopper Zoe Alper and Sweeper Sara Andrews. The Kickers are primarily made up of 9 year old players, while most of the other teams in our league are made up of primarily 10 year olds. A great accomplishment by a group of young ladies with big dreams! What the young players lacked in age and sometimes height, they made up by just working harder. Kathryn Lowe, Lauren Rubovitz, Josie Stewart and Lauren Sullivan made up the heart of an aggressive Mid field corps that shut down the Cosmos in the second half. Great game, ladies!

ohns Creek High School celebrates Anna Yoon for earning a perfect score on her AP Exam in spring 2013.

PERFORMANCE

Advanced Placement Exam scores are reported on a scale of 1 to 5, and Anna received the top score of 5. Only 14.3 percent of the 3,983,100 exams taken in 2013 earned this top score. In total, 104,612 students took the AP Calculus BC Exam in 2013.

RAPID RECOVERY METABOLIC BOOST

“For her personally it’s an amazing feat, and for the school it’s wonderful that we can be associated with her accomplishment. This is yet another milestone for the school, and we are extremely proud of Anna,” said Johns Creek High School principal Green.

CALORIE BURNER

The Advanced Placement Exams are written and scored by college professors from around the world, and are typically designed to cover a full-year of intensive college-level knowledge and skills, so it is very rare for a high school student to earn every point possible on the exam.

STRIPS TOXINS AND LACTIC ACID

“I was so excited when I found out about my score, and I am so thankful to have had Mrs. Meert as a teacher because was a great teacher and really helped me enjoy math and work hard,” commented Anna. “I am so proud of Anna. What she did was truly impressive; however not surprising given her intuitive understanding of math, work ethic and enthusiasm for learning,” said Julie Meert, Anna’s teacher for AP Calculus BC.

Kids and Kay Precious Holiday Memories

I

would like to share with you a tradition that I have enjoyed with my boys, both now young men living away from home. Each Christmas Eve we set out (yes, we still do) milk & cookies for Santa. The next morning on the “crumb-filled “plate there is a special ornament for my 2 boys – a Thank You from Santa. Each year Santa has always managed to pick out just the right ornament to highlight something special about each boy. These Santa “Thank you” ornaments are lovingly brought out each year and the reminiscing & smiles begin … the year one of them tried soccer, the year one of them hit his first home run, the year one of them competed in the Irish Dance World Championships, the college ornament from the first year they each left home, a “home-made” first job ornament for our college graduate, and the ornament when our youngest got a rescue Labrador of his own just to name a few. If asked, I bet neither of them can remember much about that great skateboard they HAD to have or the year my husband and I called all over Atlanta to find a PlayStation 3 or those (ouch) $200 pair of designer jeans or the newest cell phone … but … these ornaments are delicately unwrapped year after year and they remember each and every one and the memory it holds for them. They are now asking me if they get to take these ornaments to their home whenever they have their own tree – we’ll have to see about that … Happy Holidays from my family to yours ....

It seems that when all the relatives come over during the holidays, there is a conflict of some type. Unfortunately, I find myself not only dreading the company but also dreading this time of year. Is there any way I resolve this?

We shape bodies. It’s what we do.

Sorry to hear of your troubles but you are not alone. In fact, a common complaint about the holidays is that it involves spending too much time with relatives! Unfortunately, even as we reach adulthood, the dysfunctional dynamics that existed in the past, often come to the surface during the holidays. My advice is to call a truce and put off resolving issues until after the holidays, or you could end up going at it like an episode of the Atlanta Housewives. If your in-laws are a problem, be kind but firm. Set down your boundaries, but do it in a sweet way. I say sweet, because the last thing you want to do is add fuel to the fire by saying something in a negative manner that will give them an excuse to keep treating you badly! Lastly, at this time of year many people experience the blues, or depression. All depression and sadness are subconsciously motivated. Many times, there is a sadness connected to saying goodbye to another year. If you find your feelings are too overwhelming, please visit your doctor. If what you feel is manageable, take some time to meditate or see a hypnotherapist to tap into the subconscious mind and alleviate these feelings. Good luck, and happy holidays!

Health & Wellness Getting Older Anxiety

W

e’ve all thought about it at some point…getting older. I am told quite frequently by my 7-year old that I am indeed, already old. Despite my objections (I’m 37) she is steadfast in her beliefs. And so I thought aging can’t be all that bad right? Here are a few fun facts I learned about getting old. Ahem, older. • The oldest living animal ever documented was a 405 year old clam named Ming. • A 75-year old person will have slept approximately 23 years in their lifetime. • The average woman will eat approximately 5 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. • An older person is much more likely to be released first in a hostage situation. • The limbo world record is under 6 inches. The man that performed this feat was 55 years old. • One in 2,000,000,000 people will live to be 116 or older. • The scent of grapefruit makes women appear approximately 6 years younger to men. • One of the top five products most frequently stolen from drugstores is Preparation H. • Throughout his lifetime, Ernest Hemingway survived malaria, anthrax, a skull fracture, a crushed vertebrae, skin cancer, a ruptured liver, a ruptured spleen, a ruptured kidney, pneumonia, high blood pressure, diabetes, hepatitis, anemia, and two plane crashes….looks like we have it pretty good, folks!

Health Q&A

Live Well.. Naturally!

Q

Our son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and we’re concerned about the prescribed treatment because of the use of powerful stimulant drugs. Is there another treatment option?

A

ADHD ranks among the most widespread neurological disorder among American children. It is estimated to affect up to 7% or as many as 5 million children at any one time. These statistics translate into at least one child in every classroom in the United States. While it is not itself a specific learning disability, ADHD interferes with concentration and attention, making it difficult for a child to do well in school and in social situations. Despite the fact that there is no proven cause of ADHD, there have been observations regarding the differences in brains of patients with ADHD versus non ADHD patients. For instance, we know that the brainwaves of people with ADHD are typically slower than the rest of the population. This means they are producing Theta slow waves (4-8Hz) when they should be producing Beta fast waves (1221Hz). The ADHD patient compensates for the increased Theta production with hyperactivity. For example, have you ever driven down a road late at night and became sleepy? What do you do to self regulate? Open the window, turn up the volume on the radio, or tap the dashboard? You make yourself hyperactive to stay awake! The ADHD patient that is producing too many slow waves is in a perpetual state of fogginess and is constantly trying to stay awake – hence hyperactivity is sometimes created to counteract. Through the use of a technology called BrainCore Neurofeedback Therapy, ADHD patients can be taught how to increase the production of fast Beta waves on their own. Over thirty years of university based medical research has proven that this natural ADHD therapy creates new circuits in the brain that can be accessed as needed by the individual providing ADHD natural relief. The creation of this new circuitry speeds up the brainwaves without the need for dangerous medications.

Money Matters The War on Christmas?

I

t seems we have a new holiday tradition in America: Starting off the season with a loud and nasty argument about the supposed diminishment of Thanksgiving and Christmas. We’ve screamed at each other over Christmas trees on government property, complained about preferred holiday greetings – Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays – and carped that Christmas music starts too early on the radio. This year’s kerfuffle was over shopping on Thanksgiving. Why did retailers break with tradition and open on Thanksgiving this year? Probably because there are six fewer days than last year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. And, the stores seem to just be giving us what we want. The average shopper will spend about $704 on Christmas gifts this season, according to a Gallup poll. About 26 percent of Americans say they will spend $1,000 or more. The total amount spent on Christmas this year is projected at close to $600 billion. Here’s my advice to those who fret about the commercialization of the holidays: Accept that Christmas has grown beyond its origins as a Christian celebration to become many things to many people. It is an important commercial event. It is a mid-winter festival enjoyed by many non-Christians. It has become an overly long, often tacky event.

But the true Christmas — your Christmas — exists in your heart and the hearts of those you love. You can’t undo the modern Christmas season. All you can do is borrow a philosophy from Gandhi: Be the change you wish to see in the world. If you think Christmas is too much about spending and buying, reduce your spending and buying. Set a modest gift-giving budget and stick to it. Give homemade presents. Pare your gift list to only those who truly matter. Give small, meaningful presents. My brother is a musician. I know that he would rather get an inexpensive but fulfilling piece of sheet music than a costly gadget that he will hardly use. But here’s the really tough one: Cut back on how much you give your kids. What message are you sending when you (and your extended family) bury the children in a tidal wave of gifts? Probably not the one you want them to embrace. Besides, in my experience, if you give a child one or two gifts that they really want, everything else under the tree is superfluous, even a distraction. If you believe the holidays are about sharing your blessings – do it! Take some of the money you’d otherwise spend on presents and use it to support a worthy cause. Be a smart giver; check out your intended beneficiaries at charitynavigator.com or charitywatch.org. You might also consider volunteering as a family to help a favorite charity or nonprofit. Want to make a real impact? Don’t just volunteer during the holidays; Commit to helping out on a regular basis. The “War on Christmas?” Let it go. Act on your beliefs, keep family and friends close and you’ll have a wonderful holiday season – regardless of how nutty things are at North Point Mall and the world around you.

Technology New Year’s Resolution

R

eady or not here comes 2014! Most are thinking of New Year’s resolutions and so I thought why not suggest some technology resolutions that will help you be more efficient, effective, reliable, secure and healthy. Technology Resolution #1: Get to know about the applications you use on your computer, tablet or mobile phone. Most users leverage less than 50% of their primary applications’ potential. This means that there are a host of features either not being fully utilized or missed all together.

conveyed as sincerely as a verbal conversation. This simple change in routine can reaffirm your relationships in a way that is unmatched by email, post or tweet correspondence. Add some or all of these suggested technology resolutions for your own benefit, or for the benefit of others in your personal or professional life. Good luck to you all in 2014!

Technology Resolution #2: Change all your passwords to something more complex and unique (i.e. use upper/lower case letters, numbers and punctuation in combination with six characters or more). It is also best to not use the same password over and over. This will reduce the chance of possible fraud related to your accounts. Technology Resolution #3: Backup! Determine files on your computer you could not live without. Whether your computer is for personal use or business you should plan to implement a backup strategy that you routinely implement manually or automatically in case of a catastrophic event such as a fire. Technology Resolution #4: Walk away! Take routine breaks from your engagement on your computer or your mobile device. This can help with eye strain which results in the typical office headache. Technology Resolution #5: Break the chain! Try to occasionally reach out and call someone or visit them in person. Unfortunately, technology has not evolved to the point that emotion is

n our hardware stores we are fairly confident that in most repair and home projects, we have what you need. We can help you navigate the aisles and get you in and out so that you’re back to your project with a gameplan to success. Occasionally, we get stumped, but not too often. We have people who didn’t just get their apron this morning. They’ve been in the trenches of hardware for many years and often have real world expert experience whether it be plumbing, lawn and garden, paint or electricity. This time of year, we send people away who think we don’t know what we’re talking about… but we do. It is unbelievable how often it happens. Every year we get several people looking for an easy way to correct a simple problem. Don’t try to buy an item like this. It is NOT available. You will end up having a live wire somewhere down the line. It is extremely dangerous. No matter how frustrating it may be, DO NOT attempt to make this ‘adapter.’ Just turn the string of lights around.

Why Sell Your Home During the Holidays? Now could be the best time to make it happen!

I

If you’ve been thinking about selling your home the holidays may be the perfect time to put a For Sale sign in the yard. Here are three key reasons why:

1. Your home looks beautiful. Take advantage of the inviting holiday cheer. Your home looks better than ever with the magic of the season and tasteful decorations add a warmth to your home that is extremely enticing to buyers. When your home is being shown, think about playing some holiday music and incorporating fresh scents of the season.

1. Buyers are serious. If buyers are out during the holiday, they are motivated. With so many people taking a bulk of their vacation time during December, buyers have more time to shop for a new home. Also, many families go “back home” for the holiday. A few days around the old neighborhood may have people nostalgic for a move back home.

3. Less competition. Fewer homes on the market improves your odds of selling. Inventory is already extremely low, but because many sellers take their homes off the market during the holiday there is even less competition than usual. Having your home looking great and ready to show could get you a contract before the end of the year.

Volvo is now developing ‘no death’ cars that drive themselves and are impossible to crash which will be in showrooms within eight years. The computerized vehicles will be fitted with high-tech sensors and will ‘refuse to be steered’ into other objects. Volvo says they will be on sale to customers by 2020, but that some of the life-saving technology will be incorporated into its vehicles starting in 2014. As we all know the best way to survive a crash is to not be in one so with that in mind the 2014 Volvo XC60 has plenty of features designed to help prevent crashes. Among them is the standard “City Safety,” which can automatically stop the XC60 if a lowspeed collision with another vehicle or fixed object is deemed imminent. Debuting this year is an upgraded system that senses wayward pedestrians or cyclists which is part of a package that also includes driver-attention and lane-departure warning systems and the XC60 is one of the few vehicles to earn a perfect five stars in the government’s recently revamped crash tests. If all manufactures could build their cars like Volvo the “Death by accident” rate would decrease by 25%.

So if you’re looking for a vehicle that not only looks good but could also save your life and the life of your loved ones, then I highly recommend the XC60, a vehicle that’s far ahead of the competition.
