Theatr na n’Og

Cyrano A new adaptation by Keiron Self of Edmond Rostond’s classic play Have you ever fallen in love with the most wonderful, beautiful person in the world and been unable to act upon it? Edmond Rostond’s play Cyrano De Bergerac was a dramatic sensation when it was first performed on the French stage in 1897. Over a century later, Theatr na n’Óg, in this specially commissioned version of the tale from Keiron Self (of BBC’s My Family fame), take you back to a time of honour and chivalry, but also, more universally, a time where difference and timidity are more powerful enemies to happiness than an advancing army.

A painfully funny comedy and a tragic love story, a rollicking adventure and an intimate portrayal of love, Theatr na n’Og’s Cyrano embraces the original tale and tells it with the company’s trademark panache!

Tickets £12.50 Concessions £10.50 Children £5.00 This Theatr na n’Og and Theatr Brycheiniog co-production is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Arts Council Of Wales through the Arts Outside Cardiff fund.

Romeo and Juliet is a warning to us all to live and let live, not allow our lives to be ruled by bigotry and prejudice, a plea for us to be united in our difference. For where love is forbidden, tragedy will follow. Following award-winning productions of Twelfth Night, Cymbeline, The Merchant of Venice and Hamlet, the Wales Theatre Company now brings you Shakespeare’s definitive tale of poison and passion, feuding and fighting, pride and prejudice.

Hofesh Shechter Uprising / In Your Rooms Hotly tipped as dance’s next big thing - his work was recently seen by millions of viewers when he was commissioned to choreograph the opening dance sequence for E4’s hit TV series Skins - Hofesh Shechter presents his acclaimed works in Brecon for the first time. In Your Rooms brims with gritty physicality and is at times provocative, political and deeply personal, presenting a society that is scarily alienating and yet shockingly familiar. Twelve dancers reveal shifting motives, lack of control and vulnerabilities through intricate, touching encounters. In Uprising seven men emerge from the shadows to bombard the stage with furious energy, bonding and sparring, making up and falling out. This highly charged work, set to a throbbing percussive score also composed by Shechter, leaves audiences buzzing.

Omara Portuondo Omara Portuondo remains a flamboyant fixture on the music scene - one of the world’s great divas who has emerged from Cuba’s long isolation to achieve the international acclaim she so richly deserves. From 1950 through to the late 1960s, Omara was Cuba’s top performer of songs in the filin style (the word is taken from the English word feeling). Over two decades after the filin style fell out of favour, she happened to be in the Egrem Studios at the same time as Wim Wenders was recording the Buena Vista Social Club sessions and was invited to sing the bolero Viente Anos with Company Segundo. She went on to become part of the legendary Buena Vista performances in Amsterdam and at New York’s Carnegie Hall. “Magnificent” The Guardian “Mesmerising” The Times
