Christmas message from our CEO It is with both joy and sadness I write this last Christmas message to you – the consumers. As you may have heard, I am retiring from my CEO position early next year. I have absolutely loved my job here at SWCC. I have enjoyed talking with consumers, delighted in working with some wonderful staff and have found satisfaction in knowing that our service has made a difference to people’s lives. What more could a CEO ask for? I hope that you have a wonderful festive season. Christmas is a time for connecting with family and friends, and if you haven’t seen a loved one for some time, maybe now is the time to make the effort and reconnect. Please enjoy your immediate family time at Christmas. It doesn’t matter if they are not “blood relatives”, it can just be someone you feel close to. Hopefully everyone has someone they can call “family” and spend time with. So, for the last time as CEO, I wish you all a safe, happy and peaceful Christmas. Claire Roach Chief Executive Officer.

5.Sharron Russ My family and I moved here from New Zealand 9 years ago. I married my high school sweetheart and we have been together for 28 years. We have 1 daughter and 4 sons. We also have 4 handsome grandsons. My husband and I love to fish and camp whenever we can, so WA is perfect for us. I love my job because in my culture we are taught to love, respect and care for our elders . Caring for the elderly comes naturally to me. 6.Susan Williams I live in Eaton with my hubby. We love taking off on our motorbikes on drives around the south west. I have five sons and one grand baby on the way. I love to be able to make a difference in peoples’ lives and who better than the people who came before us to make this beautiful country what it is. I have a lot of respect for my elders. Being able to keep them in their homes and help them experience some love and fun in their retired years after the hard work they have done, is extremely rewarding. I have found SWCC great to work for. They are supportive of our beautiful consumers and their Age Care workers. 7.Nicole Madaffari I enjoy my work with SWCC and look forward to seeing my consumers with their smiley faces and chats. I am studying to expand my knowledge and my skills to provide you with the support you need. In my spare time I like to walk my dog ,Molly, and spend time in the garden .

8.Sharon Martin I have lived in Eaton for 23 years. I have been married for 22 years and have 2 daughters. I love cooking, camping and fishing, spending time with my family, walking my dogs and op shopping. I also love listening to country music and have been fortunate enough to meet many Australian country music artists. I have been working for SWCC for 10 years and I love my job. I feel humbled knowing that I am helping people to remain in their own homes. I love chatting to consumers and hearing all about their lives. 6

Men’s Shed Harvey B has very proudly reconstructed a UTE tray over several months, with spectacular results. He has used a variety of wood : Red gum, White gum; Jarrah; Sheoak; Karri; Paper bark and Peppermint to rebuild the UTE and it looks very smart indeed.

With a lot of venues not open this year, we have been restricted in what we can do. To blow the cobwebs away we had an ‘Out and About’ day on the 13th October. After meeting at the clubhouse it was an early start and a nice drive via Dardanup and Boyanup to the picnic area on the banks of the Preston River at Donnybrook. Here we had morning tea and relaxed whilst appreciating the beautiful gardens and peaceful river. We took a leisurely drive via Lowden to Gnomesville to see the hundreds of gnomes on display. We headed down through the very scenic Ferguson Valley, bypassing the wineries and breweries (sorry Lance), on our way to Bunbury. Lunch was fish and chips or fisherman’s basket at Aristos on the waterfront, followed by a relaxed walk along the waterfront to Taffy’s for ice cream before heading back to Eden Grove. With the weather being a lovely 22 degrees it made for a great day to get out and admire our fantastic South West scenery and appreciate our mates’ company. A good year after all! We are looking forward to welcoming existing and new members to The Men’s Shed in 2021! 10
