Men’s Shed– Harvey Welcome to our new members– so happy to have you join our ranks! Ray was an electrician by trade and worked for the SEC up until it became Western Power. He joined Men's Shed late in 2020 to give himself a social outlet. He enjoys catching up with the other men for companionship and to break the week up.

Ray

Mark

Ray's first project is an antique chair which has been in his family for many years. He has spent many hours restoring it back to near its original condition. Mark ,who was a salesman in his working life, joined Men's Shed for much the same reason as Ray. He found that life was getting a bit the same each day and now looks forward to coming in on Tuesdays to sit and have a cuppa and chat with the other men.

Previously a member of the North Beach RSL, Mark has joined the Harvey branch and has been able to make many friends there as well.

Men’s Shed Donation request The Men’s Shed members are planning to create benches by using refurbished bench ends. If you have an old bench that you no longer use and would like to donate to this cause, they would be most grateful. We are happy to collect old parts from your home. www.swcommunitycare.org.au

Maxine Lumsden

Your Story

Maxine was born in the beautiful country town of Albany in 1949 and lived on a dairy farm before moving to Shannon River in Manjimup. Enjoying the country life style, Maxine spent several years in Yarloop before settling happily in Harvey three years ago.

As a teenager, Maxine cared for younger children as a ‘babysitter’ for other families. Maxine now has three of her own children and a great collection of seven granddaughters! These lovely ladies range in age from 14 to 27. Every school holiday, Maxine gets together with all the granddaughters for a good family catch up of news. They enjoy a visit either at someone’s home, at a shopping centre for coffees or a venue where they can have a good natter. These get togethers are a highlight in the year for Maxine. Behind that shy smile and quiet nature, lies a huge giving heart. Maxine spends a fair amount of her time, supporting a friend who lives in Cookernup. They provide one another with support and spend weekly visits together. Maxine really enjoys chatting with her friend who has had some heartbreaking life challenges.

A keen exerciser, Maxine participates in exercise sessions regularly . Maxine gets really busy during the Fantastic Friday Social Centre exercise activities making sure she has a good workout each time. Maxine has several services with SWCC on a regular basis which keep her in contact with the local community. 10

Maxine attends the Social Centre every Friday where she enjoys the company, the activities and the great food. Maxine has domestic assistance on a fortnightly basis which provides support in keeping her home neat and clean. Going on a few of the outings that appeal to her, allows Maxine to get out and about and experience new adventures, see more of our local areas and again enjoy chatting to others. Maxine has been working with our Occupational Therapist, Handa, to ensure she can move around safely and has the necessary support equipment in her home. Take home meals from our SWCC chef are on a weekly order for Maxine and she is delighted with the convenience and taste of these meals. Tobie the cat, is Maxine’s faithful and constant companion. Five years ago, Maxine got a tiny kitten. He has now grown into a formidable, inquisitive, and large cat! He provides entertainment and company for Maxine. Tobie is very protective of his doting mistress.
