Music is everywhere. It’s the sounds of the city, the rustling of Autumn leaves, the rhythm of your heartbeat and the underscore of your memories. It calms the soul and it tells us to act. Music is the universal language, allowing our environment to speak to us, and us to each other – helping us find common cause and connection. As music is for all, we want this season to reflect that. With world‑class musicians from across the globe, talks and films that allow you to explore sound in new ways, exciting family events, incredible home‑grown talent, and a host of Christmas favourites, there’s something for everyone at St George’s Bristol. We also want to make tickets more accessible. We’ve partnered with CAVATINA to bring free tickets to young people (look out for the little symbol), we’ve priced hundreds of tickets at just £10, and introduced new multibuy offers and family tickets. We’ve also reimagined our memberships so you Turncan get closer to the music you love.thepagetoexploreallthis, and more.

FESTIVAL K EYBOARDAUTUMN—WINTER20229

The keyboard has shown a genius for evolution. It’s the harpsichord to Handel, the grand piano to Clara Schumann, the upright piano to Scott Joplin or Mary Lou Williams, the E mu Emulator to Depeche Mode, and the Novation Ultranova to Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. It’s this rich variety and deep impact on music that we want to capture in Keyboard Festival. This year we aim to encompass jazz and improv, folk, western classical, post‑classical, some accordion, some pipe organ, and Tom Rogerson from Three Trapped Tigers with his truly wonderful solo piano and voice project (Retreat to Bliss). We're only just scratching the surface. The keyboard will always be close to the heart of music. It deserves its own festival. We hope you enjoy this one.

2. Alleluia (Randall Thompson) – I performed this with the Madrigal Singers, and the director who taught me to sing.

3. Circle of Life (The Lion King opener)  – I performed this with Disney and it brings out a profound and deeply moving response in me.

Relight My Choir by Sing Out Bristol is on Sat 8 Oct, 7.30pm Turn over to explore more great local artists.

Bristol is a city of musicians. Ask around and you’ll find that half your five a side team are choristers and your GP runs a whole local orchestra. Showcasing the amazing talent that surrounds us is a huge part of St George’s Bristol, and here we want to introduce you to one of these great artists.

Orgena Rose is the Choir Director for Sing Out Bristol, the South West's largest LGBTQ+ choir. Originally from the USA, she’s worked for over 25 years in the arts. She’s appeared in iconic venues and on TV, is a former vocal director for Disney and musical director for multiple choirs and musicals.

1. Summertime (Gershwin)  – I've performed this at Carnegie Hall.

Top three pieces of music? I absolutely love these because I have personally performed them at amazing venues and they carry precious memories for me:

What inspired you to take on the role of Choir Director of Sing Out Bristol?

I was told by a choir teacher that I couldn't sing and vowed to prove her wrong. I did, becoming a professional singer. I've been on a mission for the past 25 years to help people learn to sing and to know that singing is for everyone. I am excited to see what new creative directions we can explore in Sing Out Bristol. Which three musicians/composers would be at your dream dinner party? Leontyne Price, Tina Turner and Mariah Carey. What a gathering that would be! What do you like best about Sing Out Bristol? The wide variety of music styles and genres that we perform. 19
