Let’s start with our highly attended monthly networking luncheons. This year, all 12 luncheons will be held at the Southpointe Golf Club located in the center of Southpointe, at 365 Southpointe Blvd. This newly remodeled private club features a grand ballroom, scenic balconies, a terrace lounge, and a comfortable lobby with a fireplace. This year’s show will be different than the previous events. The new trade show will also be held at the Southpointe Golf Club. Washington County Area Humane Society Spaghetti Dinner at Washington American Legion January 24, 2016 - 2 PM to 6PM $10 to attend

On January 24, The Washington County area Human Society is holding a spaghetti dinner for raising funds for the animal shelter. This event will be held at the Washington American Legion, 168 Park Avenue, Washington, PA. Angelo’s Restaurant in Washington donated the food and service. Cost is only $10 and serving time is from 2PM to 6PM. Tickets can be purchased by calling 724-222-7387. The WCAHS is a non-profit organization with a privately funded no-kill shelter. Washington City Mission Sweet Sunday at Hilton Garden Inn Southpointe February 28, 2016 - 12 PM to 5 PM $5 to attend

Join City Mission for the 22nd Annual Sweet Sunday dessert fundraiser on February 28, 2016 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe! In 2015, Sweet Sunday raised over $90,000 for City Mission. With over 300 volunteers, 50 auction baskets, live entertainment, kid’s activities, food, and delicious desserts. Sweet Sunday was a huge success! Over 3,000 people attended the event, and much fun was had by all. We thank you for your consideration in becoming a 2016 Sweet Sunday Sponsor. Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living

Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living affirms Liberty and Justice for all people with disabilities In 2015, Tri-County Patriots for Independent Living (TRIPIL) served 1,314 individuals throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. The organization provides independent living skills training, peer support, advocacy, and information & referral. It also assists those who are transitioning from nursing homes to their own apartments or homes, as well as the transition of high school students going to college or to work. TRIPIL has a partnership with Temple University to access assistive technology and resources for Southwestern Pennsylvania. Also, TRIPIL has two affiliated organizations: Accessible Dreams, which provides accessible housing resources for individuals and families who need help finding or building a brand-new home or advice on modifying an existing home in the community they want to live, and TRIPIL Services, which provides in-home personal assistant services and training for those direct care workers. In December, TRIPIL learned that the Washington County Commissioners, approving of the recommendations of the Local Share Review Committee, granted

$400,000 to be used toward a state-of-the-art elevator to be installed in the former YWCA building at 42 West Maiden Street, Washington, which will become their new headquarters next year. Washington Financial Bank is also supporting the endeavor with a $10,000 grant. The office’s current location is 69 East Beau Street, Washington. “We need foundation and corporate support and private angel donors to fund the ongoing phases of this renovation,” stated Kathleen Kleinmann, Chief Executive Officer, who established the organization in 1990. “We will proudly name rooms and events after them in return for their support.” She added, “Joining together, we can increase our programs, services, and information to aid people with disabilities in living, working, and enjoying the community. With the aging of Baby Boomers, new information on appropriate programs and services needs to be available for them, and their families, friends, and colleagues.” For instance, after a stroke, Flo was nonverbal, and found herself in a nursing home. TRIPIL employees began taking her to the office where she began speaking with staff, volunteers, and consumers. TRIPIL worked to get her out of that nursing home and into her own apartment. She now drives on her own, travels extensively, and works part-time at TRIPIL. “TRIPIL has helped me get back my life. I am very thankful to their dedicated staff,” Flo explained. Moreover, TRIPIL’s good friend and supporter, former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge, stated, “It is important for you (staff members) and the community to know how much I appreciate and admire your efforts.” He remains very active as chairman of the National Organization on Disability. Taking the gas to market

Seventeen natural gas pipelines are expected in Pa., West Virginia and Ohio over next two years The failure of North American pipeline capacity to quickly adapt to the rapidly growing crude oil production resulted in supply bottlenecks last year and contributed to the glut of crude oil in the U.S. Similarly, pipeline construction in the Marcellus shale play, which will soon be entering its eighth year, has lagged far behind continually growing natural gas supplies, slowing the development of new markets and driving gas prices downward. The stranded oil has gone into storage tanks, chiefly at the nation’s main trading hub in Cushing, OK, which has raised U.S. oil supplies to their highest level in 80 years. Surplus natural gas is being stored underground in deep high pressure salt caverns, depleted oil or gas reservoirs, or aquifers. Working natural gas in storage reached 3,929 billion cubic feet (Bcf) as of October 30, according to EIA’s natural gas storage report. This level matches the previous weekly record of 3,929 Bcf set Nov. 2, 2012. The Marcellus region has nearly 10,000 wells drilled but only about 5,500 of those are currently online. The rest are waiting for pipelines to take the gas to market. The good news for gas operators is that help is on the way.

“We have seventeen ‘greenfield’ natural gas projects (new pipeline construction) in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio coming online over the next two years, which will ship about 17.3 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas, plus 120,000 barrels per day of natural gas liquids out of the Marcellus,” said Jim Ladlee, associate director of Penn State’s Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research. “This represents significant additional takeaway capacity, given that daily production in the Appalachian Basin is currently around 17 Bcf. “The new pipeline network will be able to satisfy most of the natural gas demand in the Mid-Atlantic and the New England regions, with enough left over to export as LNG.” Six of the proposed projects would originate in Pennsylvania’s northern Marcellus production area, and seven, including two liquids pipelines, would originate in Western Pa., Ohio and West Virginia. Shale News in-service dates for the majority of the proposed projects are late 2017 and early 2018. When backhaul, bi-directional flow, reversals, and expansion of existing capacity are added to these “greenfield” pipelines, there will be over 50 pipeline infrastructure projects that originate in Marcellus or Utica. With Marcellus shale play going into its eighth year, why did it take so long for the transmission pipelines to get built? “I think production and pipeline buildout could have overlapped more closely so that supply and demand would have been better balanced today,” said Dan Weaver director of public outreach for the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association of Pennsylvania (PIOGA) “If you look at 2010 to 2012, the number of shale gas wells drilled during those years was unreal; we haven’t seen anything like it since the Texas oil boom in the

early 20th century, which created the giants of the oil industry including Gulf Oil, Amoco and Exxon. “Certainly, the Marcellus had to be proven before pipelines were built, but I think pipelines lagged behind because it’s easier to get permits for wells and the funds to drill them since the gas coming out of one well pays for the cost of drilling the next well whereas the FERC process for pipelines is much more complex and raising the billions of dollars to build transmission lines that won’t see a dime in return until they are fully built is much harder. “Ultimately, I don’t think we had the foresight to see just how large this boom was going to be, it was like trying to see the forest from within the trees.”. The Health Club at Southpointe opens new multi-functional training area The Health Club at Southpointe recently opened a 1400 square foot new multi-functional training area. The new area, which is in addition, to the 30,000 square foot full service club, is highlighted by the Dynamic Modular system. The modular unit combines several popular total-body dynamic exercises into one system that helps personal trainers work with individuals and groups more effectively. The Dynamic Modular System host six stations from Battle ropes, TRX cables, kettle bells to heavy bag and dip stations. The additional space allows members to increase and vary their workout routines. With the growing trend in natural movement and body weight training, the health club saw the opportunity to capitalize on developing the new space and be a part of this growing fitness trend. Members are really enjoying the additional space and using all the additional equipment being offered. With the growing membership especially within the corporate businesses in Southpointe, the added space and additional equipment is an investment in the future. The Southpointe Chamber of Commerce is grateful to John and Dot, owners of J&D Cellars for hosting our first monthly wine tasting at 1400 Main Apartment Complex. John’s passion for wine-making began while being mentored by two local men who owned a wine-making supplies store. This enthusiastic group of winemakers decided to start a club where they could share knowledge and experience with other local winemakers. John and Dot’s appreciation for wine grew from sweet wines, to semi-sweet, and then to dry wines. John continued to research his new hobby, and in 2007, started to plant his own vineyard. The couple decided to take the plunge into becoming winery owners in 2011. Starting small, they continued to increase their wine selections, as well as the size of their business. Since they have made and love a variety of wine styles, they understand the importance of having a wide variety of offerings for their customers. They have grown from selling wine out of their garage, to having a satellite store in a neighboring county, and are now building a new facility to better accommodate their higher levels of production as well as customer flow. John and Dot are directly involved in all aspects of their winery operations including maintaining the vineyard, wine-making, tasting rooms, sales and off-site events, and packaging and preparing wine shipments. They recently started the local Washington County Chapter of the American Wine Society, and continue to help local home winemakers with advice, support, and the sell of supplies through the club. Stantec lends a helping hand to the local Amish community as staff celebrate Stantec in the Community Day Each year, in mid-September, Stantec’s offices around the globe celebrate Stantec in the Community Day (SITC). While our employees are active in their communities throughout the year, SITC highlights our commitment to the people and places we serve with a global day of volunteering in our communities. This year, our Southpointe office went off the beaten path…literally. It all started with a simple business arrangement. Survey Party Chief Mark Miles explains, “In my line of work at Stantec, we mark the pathways of gas lines using thousands of wooden survey stakes. Much of our work is conducted in very rural areas of Ohio and Pennsylvania, areas where you can find many small Amish enclaves. Early on, I established an account with one of the chief elders of the local Amish community. He was able to reliably produce a couple thousand stakes a week from this lumber yard. During trips to and from the supplier’s farm for new stakes, Mark couldn’t help but notice that the community schoolhouse was in need of repairs, and he knew just the team to help out. Back at the office, he suggested that the office assist their Amish friends and business partner with some school work - a perfect match for Stantec in the Community Day. His fellow engineers, surveyors and administrative staff agreed and launched a fund-raising drive for school supplies. The donations streamed in eventually providing enough funds to purchase pencils, crayons, notebooks,

chalk and carbon paper to supply the school for the entire year. As Mark delivered the supplies to the grateful students and their teacher, he eyed the weathered schoolhouse and decided that their work was not yet done. First up: replacing the cinder block stairs with a new wooden stairway. Next, the team donated time and materials to repaint the interior rooms and the main entry door, a task which the Amish children excitedly joined in. As a finishing touch, they built a gravel courtyard, which promises to mitigate muddy boot tracks inside the school. The Amish leaders appreciated the hard work and commitment of the Stantec staff, as both business partners and neighbors. And in return, the community invited the office team to a chili dinner, complete with homemade breads and apple pie for dessert. Across Pennsylvania, other Stantec office teams participated in Stantec in the Community day as well. Some of the groups getting a helping hand were the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, Arc of Butler County, and The Breathing Foundation.
