Accutrex and National Manufacturing Day; Changing perceptions on a modern industry On October 5th Southpointe business Accutrex hosted students from Washington and Chartiers-Houston school districts to open up their minds to the world of manufacturing. Many high school students are often uncertain about their future and are pushed by societal norms to pursue a college degree. Modern manufacturing environments are commonly thought of as dark, dangerous factories designed for low-skilled workers. Manufacturing Day, held nationally on the first Friday of October each year, addresses this misperception and presents an alternative career path. The manufacturing industry of today is technologically advanced, with ample use of automation, 3-D printing, robots, and screen technology. “It’s not just a couple of guys with hacksaws and torches in a garage,” said AccuTrex’s chief operating officer Mark Beichner as he addressed the visiting students. One of the challenges manufacturers face is finding skilled labor. Senator Camera Bartolotta also spoke to the visiting students. One of her defining points was the importance of the industry for our region. Better Sleep, Better Health, Better Life When Jodi Barone began sleep apnea therapy, she went from being exhausted and unfocused to waking up each day energetic and positive. “It was life altering,” she said. Sleep therapy also reduced her risk of stroke and heart disease. “People need to know that sleep apnea is not something to mess around with,” she said.
“We renovated the sleep lab to be more like a hotel experience. And we will expand to keep up with demand,” said Dr. Lee. “We don’t want anyone to put off an evaluation because they think they won’t be able to actually fall asleep in the lab.”
Her primary care doctor suggested a home sleep study. For two nights, monitoring devices measured her breathing, oxygen level, and airflow. “Home sleep studies are very accurate at diagnosing sleep apnea, so this was good for Jodi. They take place in the patient’s own bedroom,” said Dr. Euhan John Lee, a board-certified specialist in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. As you walk into any of the five existing Steel Cactus restaurants you will quickly know that you are in for a unique dining experience. Each Southwestern Tex-Mex themed venue is illuminated with incredibly detailed hand-painted artwork and matching décor. They feature a wide variety of flavors and types of dishes to satisfy each of their guests. Restaurant group Food Manager, Brandon Weimerskir describes the cuisine as a “Pittsburgh twist on Tex-Mex,” with chipotle brisket tacos and buffalo chicken tacos being among the top sellers. “Our proteins are very good, I can get shrimp, I can get steak, I can get beef, If I feel like a salad I can get that with salsa or whatever I’m in the mood for,” said Adam DeSimone, co-owner of Steel Cactus. Steel Cactus Southpointe will have twelve beers on tap, a selection of bottles, and their popular Yinzerita; a frozen margarita with an upside-down beer. Daily specials will be featured every day of the week like endless tacos on Monday and $5 house margaritas on Tuesday. They also feature deserts like their caramel cheese cake chimichanga; a flour tortilla filled with caramel cheesecake wrapped, deep-fried, and tossed in cinnamon sugar. The first Steel Cactus, located in Shady Side, opened it’s doors in 2012 by co-owners Adam and Mike DeSimone. Adam and Mike have been no strangers to the restaurant scene. They are the founders of entertainment and hospitality management company AMPD Group which manages many other local favorites such as Ten Penny, Local Bar & Kitchen, and Social House. The new Southpointe location will be their 6th restaurant under the Steel Cactus brand with a 7th soon to follow in North Myrtle Beach.

Senator Camera Bartolotta's first 4 years in office No stranger to adversity, Camera’s first home was a floating tar-paper shack at a logging company where her dad was a lumberjack. At the age of two, she and her fouryear-old sister were being raised solely by their 20-yearold mother who took on three jobs just to get by. Financial difficulties propelled Camera to start working at the age of 14, paving the way for the unmatched work ethic she displays in the Pennsylvania State Senate today. At 23, amid her acting career, Camera met her late husband Bruce Bartolotta and moved with him to the Mon Valley where they started a business and family.
