This event is free to the public - 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. The Doubletree Ballroom will be filled with area business exhibits. This year, the show is a mix of lodging, gaming, shopping, restaurant, and energy exhibits. It is very apparent Racetrack Road and surrounding routes are growing at a very fast rate. You just have to drive around to see all the buildings springing up. Park Place is now open with restaurants, retail, and offices. ‘The Street’ is coming along nicely and will round out the need for apartment living on the strip. Near ‘The Street’ is the new Hyatt Place, Pittsburgh Southpointe, Meadows Racetrack and Casino Hotel. It will offer 155 rooms and 1,800 sq ft. of meeting space. Located next to the hotel with its own entrance is the “Parlay Bar” which features signature cocktails, light bar menu, sushi and a great atmosphere for after hour business. Check out the outdoor patio and fire pit. A Bakery Café will be open 24 hours a day with made to order snacks and entrees, Starbucks and more. Guest parking is free. Both are within walking distance from The Meadows Casino and Harness Racing venue. An enclosed walkway bridge connects with the casino. We have a great opportunity for all the new neighbors to meet each other at the Second Annual Racetrack Road Trade Show. It will be held on June 11, at the Doubletree Hotel. Resource Resilience Engineers enhance value in a prolific gas/liquids province Producers in the Northeast have unlocked the Marcellus formation – one of the world’s largest natural gas reservoirs and the undisputed driver of the U.S. shale gas revolution. Marcellus natural gas production has surged from 2 Bcf/d in 2010 to an estimated 16.7 Bcf/d, and production from the below-lying Utica formation has increased 12-fold. In the wake of this unprecedented growth, takeaway capacity remains a key challenge. Yet midstream operators are investing $20 billion through 2018 to build infrastructure that can move 20 Bcf/d of natural gas to lucrative markets across the country. Technological innovation gave producers access to this abundant resource. And the evolution of technology is allowing the industry to defy the odds and remain profitable. Since 2008, producers have slashed breakeven costs in half by finding ways to operate more efficiently. This June, the region’s most-active players take the stage at DUG East to discuss the latest efficiency-driven drilling and completions technologies.

Regarding the impact of the shale industry on Racetrack Road businesses, one reader reported a negligible decline. James Langer, General Manager of Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, stated, “If the extraction tax that the governor is proposing goes through, I believe there will be a decline. We have already started to see a slight decline as the shale industry is cutting back in preparation of this tax.” On the other hand, the effect of the shale industry on Southpointe and surrounding businesses was positive, according to one reader. Mark Lantz, District Manager at Waddell and Reed, mentioned that the raise was due to “clients seeing the value in solving their problems.” Lantz emphasized that “networking and referrals” were key to their business volume increase.
