Message from the 2011 Chairman of the Board & President Special Olympics Community, Every year we celebrate the progress of the Special Olympics Movement in New Jersey and recognize the impact that our athletes make on the lives of family members, volunteers, sponsors and the communities in which they live. And while each year we congratulate our athletes on their athletic achievements, this year we also reach out to say thank you to all of our participants for bringing change to the schools and communities in which we live. 2011 was the beginning of some very recognizable change‌‌.change in which we witnessed communities viewing our athletes not just as an inspiration, but as friends and neighbors. While this acceptance by the community has become more obvious in recent years, through the expansion of Unified Sports and the engagement of sponsors and volunteers, we have witnessed a respect and sincerity that will potentially serve as the foundation for the future growth of our athletes‌even beyond the playing field. We say thank you to our athletes who continue to champion change. In a challenging economy, the Law Enforcement Torch Run continued to lead our movement in funds raised and volunteer service. Long term sponsor relationships, as well as new support, enabled Special Olympics New Jersey to not only continue to execute programs for the athletes we serve, but to also reach more participants with more sports training and competition opportunities. This year volunteers supported the conduct of over 160 competitive experiences, in 24 sports, for athletes throughout the state. From year-round coaches to single day event volunteers, the passion and commitment demonstrated by our volunteers produced exceptional year round experiences for our athletes. In January of 2011, New Jersey was selected to host the 2014 Special Olympics USA National Games. The Games Organizing Committee has accepted the challenge to create a games of welcome and acceptance, and give 3,500 athletes from around the country a once in a lifetime experience, second to none. While these Games will be a monumental achievement for the movement in our state, they will also present SONJ with an incredible opportunity to take the success we experienced in 2011 and continue to build an even broader foundation for the growth we anticipate in 2014 and beyond. Keeping focused on our core values and strategically expanding inclusive opportunities for our athletes on the playing field will result in an unprecedented cultural change in New Jersey; again all championed by the athletes who impact each and every one of us. Sincerely,

Fred Graziano Marc S. Edenzon Chairman President 2011 Board of Directors
