American Girl Fashion Show
Ambassador Program Ambassadors are young girls, ages 4 - 12, who are an active and important part of the American Girl Fashion Show to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey. Through their promotion of the show and solicitation of donations and sponsorships, these young women help ensure the success of the show. Each spring, they begin by learning about Special Olympics New Jersey, the American Girl Fashion Show, and the work that is needed for the show. Points are earned which qualify them for modeling spots in the show. We hope you will talk with these young women about their compassion for others and congratulate them on the success of the 2011 show.
Junior Committee Members (the “purple shirt girls)
Junior Committee Members are former Ambassadors who are interested in staying involved with Special Olympics New Jersey and the American Girl Fashion Show. Their responsibilities grow as they become ready for bigger challenges. We thank these young women for their work on behalf of the American Girl Fashion Show. For more information about the Ambassador Program and the American Girl Fashion Show please send your name, age & address to: AGFSinfo@sonj.org We will contact you in the spring for the 2012 show. Mission: Our mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Eligibility: To be eligible to participate in Special Olympics, athletes must be at least 8 years old* and identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disability; a cognitive delay as determined by standardized measures such as intelligence quotient or other generally accepted measures; or a closely related development disability, i.e., functional limitations in both general learning and adaptive skills. There is no cost to participate in Special Olympics. *Children ages 2 ½ to 7 are eligible to participate in the Young Athlete Program.
Competition Offerings: Special Olympics Inc. has approved twenty-four Olympic sports for participation by individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics New Jersey offers twenty-three (including Motor Activities) of the twenty-four as Chapter-level competitions. Special Olympics New Jersey conducts four major state-wide competitions annually: Fall Sports Festival, Winter Games, Spring Sports Festival, and Summer Games.
